Overview

Underhill House Rental Photos and Description

3 bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms, sleeps 8 max

Our 1865 farmhouse is nestled into the west slope of Pleasant Valley, with a commanding view of majestic Mt. Mansfield. In the midst of 180 very private acres of pristine woodlands and breathtaking mountain views, the bedrooms are cozy and the kitchen/dining and living rooms are open space, light and airy. With recent renovations, everything is clean, solid and functionally sound without sacrificing the country feel of an old Vermont farmhouse. Decorated in warm colors, each room has its own charm and character. The master bedroom is on the ground floor in its own “wing,” with two beds, a queen and a twin, and a private full bath. The other two bedrooms are upstairs and share a full bathroom – the one to the right has four twins; the one to the left has a queen and a twin. We have one child-size roll-away and one crib. The kitchen is fully equipped and ready for cooking gourmet feasts. Our washer and dryer ensure that you are ready for anything, whether you brought enough clothes or not.

Underhill, Jeffersonville and the surrounding area offer an abundance of distractions for every taste. Outdoor enthusiasts will find adventure in exploring the network of trails right outside our door, whether for cross-country skiing, snow-shoeing, sledding, toboganning, mountain biking, hiking or simply walking (we have some equipment, and you can rent snowshoes and bikes for the day or week at our local stores). Underhill’s got one of the best sledding hills anywhere, and that’s just a five minute drive. If you prefer to take walks on the woods trails or on beautiful country roads, you’ll be stunned by the beauty and majesty of the unspoiled land and Mt. Mansfield.

This treasure is a place to get away from the hustle, to fill your lungs with truly fresh air, and to “re-charge your batteries.” With our own pond right off the deck, swimming (summer) and skating (winter) are available on impulse. Our larder is loaded with teas, coffees, hot chocolate, and other cooking/eating essentials, which you are welcome to use, though we ask that they be replaced if usage is heavy. Our caretaker and housekeeper will be happy to pitch in if you’d like their help while at the house. When we say 'vacation house,' we mean it!

As for skiing, Smuggler’s Notch Ski Resort (known to locals as “Smuggs”, only 15-20 minutes away) offers groomed cross-country ski trails, a skating arena, and excellent downhill skiing and snow-boarding. Stowe is just 45 minutes away (or you can ski to it from Smuggs) and Jay Peak is about the same. If variety is a compulsion, Sugarbush and Mad River are about an hour south.

For those seeking more pastoral or cerebral activities, there is no lack of beautiful vistas for the photographer and artist; there are antique shops, art galleries, farmers markets, restaurants, theatres, and shops all within a 40 minute radius, including Stowe village, Jeffersonville and Vermont’s largest city, Burlington. And the turn of seasons in fall is utterly spectacular as Vermont’s legendary sugar maples put on their riotous display of leafy colors.

As the sun sets and the incredibly clear sky shows off a plethora of stars and constellations, you can come home to relax and toast your toes in front of the big stone fireplace, far from the noise and hectic pace of resort villages with their condos, dense living and commercial traffic. Put on soft music and stretch out, and rest your tired muscles in this serene and private setting!

Our home is the perfect place for your Vermont vacation. It is also the perfect setting for small family celebrations like anniversaries or graduations. Invite your family, friends and relatives to stay here with you. There are plenty of businesses in the area that would be happy to help you with catering and other services you might need. Contact us with any questions or concerns you have. We’ll be glad to help!

Wonderful long weekend in Underhill, VT

  • 5 of 5

We took this house Wednesday afternoon through Monday morning during a period of splendid late-August weather. The house suited our needs perfectly:

- A lovely piece of property, at the end of the road and quite private with a cool, spring-fed pond that was serious value added. (We used the owner's rafts, which added to the fun.)

- Very nice layout. The master bedroom with en-suite bath (which also opens to the front foyer, to allow the toilet area to double as a powder room) is on the first floor with its own door to the back deck. This gives nice privacy for whoever has the clout to claim that space.

- There are two upstairs bedrooms sharing a full bath. Both rooms have multiple beds and versatile sleeping options.

- No air conditioning and none needed; but plenty of fans to keep air moving and comfortable. We were pleasantly surprised at how quiet the house is, meaning, how little we heard each other talking or moving about at times when that was a good thing.

- A very useful kitchen with a large eat-in area. We had no trouble preparing meals and this is a great place to get local foods in season.

- Wonderful wraparound deck overlooking the pond with views of the mountains - Vermont at its loveliest.

The place was clean. There were plenty of linens and towels. The Internet worked fine - it's a relatively slow DSL connection, but it was steady and we could do email and I even had good success streaming video through my own Roku device that I connected to the flat screen TV. The beds were too soft for my taste, that's the only thing I can find to complain about. The owner is a real gentleman - we corresponded by email a few times and he was friendly and responsive. He also sends out a nice packet of information about how to use and enjoy the property. We got our security deposit back promptly - a quality transaction from start to finish.

We would definitely come back to Bryn Tyddyn if we find ourselves visiting this part of Vermont again.

Charming country home on a picturesque setting!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this home for a wedding at nearby Squabetty in Underhill, VT. We were delighted at how close this home was to the venue, which made it easy to travel back and forth for wedding preparation.

Our first impression was - Wow! The home had three good sized rooms with plenty of room to relax. We had no problems accessing the internet and other amenities.

We made use of the gorgeous updated kitchen - which was perfect for group meals and entertaining. Almost everything we needed was already provided and very easy to find and access.

The living area was complete with a fireplace, board games, television - many of which we didn't get to use because we were only there for the weekend, but I'm sure if we were in town for longer we would have made use of more of the home.

Surrounding the home was a beautifully-maintained lawn and pond, which made the whole home feel serene and peaceful. I can imagine this home to be perfect for either a family outing or even a nice quiet getaway.

We would certainly recommend this spot for vacationers and would keep this home in our thoughts if we were to come back! Thank you!

Beyond all expectations

  • 5 of 5

From the moment I got there, I was impressed: the house is spacious and every room comfortable, the immediate property is well maintained for lawn games, and the pond allowed for refreshing swims. My favorite spot, though, was the deck with its stunning view of Mt. Mansfield. Whether having my morning coffee out there, or ending the day with a cold beer to watch the sunset, it was a wonderful place to spend time.

I highly recommend this property and I hope to return someday soon.

Perfect Paradise Farmhouse

  • 5 of 5

Mark's 1800's Farmhouse was the perfect accommodation for our family (2 grandparents, 2 parents, 3 young children and on the weekend 2 more adults). When we drove up the driveway I knew we had found the perfect place for our vacation. The glittering pond greeted us, the farmhouse type wooden house and the inviting interior of the house all lived up to our expectations. There were enough comfortable beds and bedrooms for everyone with more than enough privacy. There was unlimited hot water for showers. The kitchen was amazingly equipped with everything we needed and did not need. The refrigerator was big enough to store food for all of us. The kitchen was comfortable for 2 of us to prepare meals and of course the dishwasher was put to good use at the end of each meal. The kids loved lighting the fireplace in the evenings and having their marshmallows on skewers - everyday was a party. The house and the property were clean and easy to use. Mark was extremely accommodating and answered all questions and solved all problems immediately (not that there were any problems!) There was absolutely nothing negative to say about the house, property or location. Definitely, we will chose this house if we have the opportunity to visit Vermont again. It was wonderful.

A True Vermont Experience

  • 5 of 5

This is our third time staying here and it gets more beautiful every time! I highly recommend staying here; you will not be disappointed. It easily sleeps 9 people, there is a gorgeous pond, and a crabapple tree where you can very often see deer. There are hiking trails right behind the house! I just can't say enough about this beautiful land.

Feeling of home

  • 5 of 5

Apart from it's ideal location the house is very comfortable. Our family of 5 had ample room, warmth and hot water (perfect after a day of skiing). The private location made us feel very special. The kids could use the sleds from the shed and sled down the driveway/road for 450m without any worry of cars. During the walk we did behind the house we came across many animal footprints and didn't come across another person. The house had a very "at home" feel so we started a jigsaw in front of the lovely fireplace (but with so many activites to do during the day we didn't finish it! The owners were very accommodating and the information they provided on local shopping/activities, how to work things around the house etc were spot on. Thank-you for a wonderful stay. Couldn't recommend it highly enough.
