|Minimum Stay||3 - 7 nights|
Location, Location, Location! That is why you want to rent this popular property. It is located just 5.5 miles from Cook's Corner, 6 miles from downtown Brunswick. 15 minutes to Freeport and 30 minutes to Portland. But you may just want to stay at this incredible home and enjoy the views! Quahog Bay is a wonderful spot, enjoy the deep water dock which you can swim or kayak from. Cook lobsters on the deck. Enjoy spectacular sunrises into the many windows in this magnificent home. Every bedroom has a view of the water.
This unique property has two homes, each with four bedrooms. The Port House accommodates 10 people and the Starboard House 8 people. You may rent them both (double the below off season prices) or just one of them. During our high season (late June-early September) we do require that groups rent both homes (High season prices are already set for renting both homes). When renting one of the homes, the other home may be rented by others so the dock would be shared, but when renting both homes the dock is your private dock!
The Port House, just 50 feet off the water, has a lovely wrap around porch looking out right on the water. The Starboard House is set back a little further, but has a wonderful farmer's porch with amazing water views. There is a wonderful yard for the kids to play in. We also have a fire pit (bring your own camp wood) for making the perfect s'mores! We supply two 2-person and two single kayaks, you may also bring your own boat and tie up to the 24' deep water dock. Jumping and swimming right from the dock are a must, and no need to worry, even at low tide the water is 9 feet deep!
During the summer season we only rent Saturday-Saturday, with a one week minimum. During our off season though we will consider shorter rentals, with a three night minimum.
Both homes are beautifully appointed! Stainless steel appliances and beautiful granite counters in the kitchen will entice you to stay and cook every meal at home, especially preparing for a lobster bake, a must for your visit to Maine. There is a lobster pound just two miles away that will cook the lobster for you though, much easier clean up! The area towns have so many restaurants, so if you don't feel like cooking, you are in luck! There are plenty of activities to do including shopping, museums, outdoor activities.....the list goes on and on! Once you've visited Maine, especially the coast, you will want to come back year after year!
Sarah and I have three children who we are very proud of. We live in Maine year round. I rent Snowmobiles in the winter through our business Northeast Snowmobile Rentals. We have three locations, two in inland Maine, and one on New Hampshire. I enjoy running a marathon each year and Sarah tries to keep up with me. We have a Scottish Terrier.
Terry and Sarah MacGillivray purchased this house in 2011
We hope to retire to this water front home in 2020 when our youngest graduates from school. We have 15 years experience with weekly rentals. We own the Robinhood Inn on Bailey Island, which we have rented successfully for 15 years. We have learned what our guests want and do not want in a weekly rental. We often stay in other rentals when we travel around the US.
There are no steps from the parking lot to the king bedroom with private bath, thanks to a wooden ramp that connects to the wrap around porch. The home is 50 feet off the ocean. Nice yard with fire pit and room for the kids to run around. 24' new clean dock with kayaks.
This was the first vacation that I have planned with my WHOLE family. Wasn't exactly sure what to expect, but Harborgate was the perfect place to have chosen for this event. Waking up to that gorgeous view every day just set the tone for a relaxing week. Both houses were a lovely mix of modern furnishings with the charm of a "rustic" location. Both kitchens were spacious with lots of counter space, updated fridges and ovens, and there were many tools and serveware items to utilize. And, we cooked a lot! The gas grill was key to our family dinners, too. The kayaks and private dock were one of the most used features of this rental - I couldn't have predicted how much the kids in our group (and adults) would take to the water adventures. The owners, Sarah and Terry (along with their son, Ian) were most helpful when we arrived and on the first day when we had some trouble with the house temps they were ready to help us trouble shoot over text and phone. The island and area have so much to offer in the way of excursions such as boat tours, trails to hike, and seafood dinners that you will find yourself very busy yet able to relax when just hanging out at Harborgate. We had a few nights of building a campfire and making s'mores - the mosquitos do come out, so wear bug spray- which just put the icing on our vacation cake. In the end, everyone on the trip said that they would love to come back to this idyllic spot. I think that is a definite thumbs up!!
My family stayed at Harborgate last week for my mother's 80th birthday celebration. Everything in both houses was perfect, the view takes your breath away. Both homes were fully stocked with everything you could possibly need. Terry and Sarah were there for any questions we had. Terry took family members out for a three hour sight seeing tour in his boat. All had a blast!!!
We will definitely be back!
My husband booked this trip, so I had no idea what to expect. I was immediately drawn to the water view from every angle at Harborgate and the warm welcome: perfectly heated place with clean towels in every room. It even smelled inviting! It was just the two of us, but we took full advantage of the kitchen and the coffee table binder of local suggestions. Too bad the temperature was too low for swimming or kayaking, but we could not have been happier. Terry called to tell us there will be a plow guy to shovel us out the next morning if it snows, and Sarah checked in to make sure we got home safely at the end of our 4-day trip. We're looking forward to spending our next post-Christmas trip with our extended family next year. Thank you, Terry and Sarah!
This was the second property I booked through VRBO and have yet to be disappointed. I researched a number of places for our trip to Portland, ME and this was on the top of our list based on the pictures. I emailed Terry and Sarah, and they were great in responding to my numerous questions. We (myself, my wife, 2 kids under 3, and another couple with a toddler) pleasantly surprised the rental offered two pack n' plays for the kids which came in handy.
When we got there, the pictures were spot on. The view of water was fantastic, and the house was perfect for our group. It was family friendly, with a great kitchen for us to make breakfast. It also had a nice bar area downstairs where we can hang out and have drinks. There was also a booklet with very useful information that we referenced throughout the trip (it's the little things that make a difference).
Throughout the stay, Terry and Sarah answered our numerous questions, including pointing us to a few places where we could get fresh lobster. We ended up going to a location they recommended, and when we brought it back, Terry offered to cook it for us! He had guests over, but he still went out of his way to help us out. That was not necessary, but very much appreciated! It was by far the best lobster we've ever had. They also have a dock with kayaks and canoes for use, but we didn't use it because it was a bit chilly, however the option is very nice.
Shortly after we returned back home, Terry and Sarah mailed us our deposit back. Just great service all around. I highly recommend this place if you want to stay near Portland. It is about a 45 min drive into town, but the place is well worth it.
We brought the "kids" and grandkids in to Harborgate for a family week. We came from Nevada, Oregon, Texas and Florida. Fifteen souls in all, we had teenagers on down to toddlers and a three-month-old. We could not have made a better selection. The families with kids four and down occupied the upper house, which would have been a great rental in itself. The other adults and teenagers stayed in the main house, where most of the socializing and dining took place. The setting was sublime and the kayaks were put to good use each day. Nearby Popham Beach was a big hit with the families, and the kids loved roasting marshmallows at the fire ring in the evening. The houses were well stocked with games, puzzles and DVDs. Even a high wind and rain event was welcome, as we were together and dry in such a great place. The fresh seafood available locally was plentiful and we inhaled it all week. A farmer's market in Brunswick provided bounteous fruit and produce. Terry was a great host even though he went on vacation after checking us in. The property really runs itself because he's taken such care in equipping and maintaining it. In short, you cannot put a price on the memories we made as a family in this magical place. Thanks, Terry and Sarah; we are saving up now for a return visit.
Our three generation, 15 person family enjoyed a fabulous reunion at the two gorgeous Harborgate houses. Plenty of hang out space, fully equipped kitchens, s'mores in the fire pit, space for the kids to run around outside, and a superb waterfront private dock with two kayaks. We rented paddle boards from Seaspray Kayaking which were a big hit.
On days when we could tear ourselves away from Harborgate, we took trips to....
Maine Maritime Museum, Popham Beach, Lucky Catch Lobster Boat, Harpswell hiking trails,
Long Shot Miniature Golf, and the Maine Botanical Gardens. Couldn't fit the Seadogs in this year. Have already booked for 2015.
We are located on an island in Harpswell, Maine, connected to the mainland by bridge. The closest town in Brunswick. The entire area is beautiful, but the fact that the home is right on the water is a plus! Having a dock is another added bonus. Bring your own boat, or just borrow our small row boat and kayaks and explore the wonderful coves in the area. There is a nesting pair of bald eagles on a nearby island that love doing shows for us while we are out paddling, I'm sure you won't miss them. In addition to boat, there are wonderful nature hikes that would be suitable for the whole family. Restaurants and shopping may be found in Brunswick, Bath and Freeport...the closest of the towns, but a day spent explore the other towns that line Route 1 is another must! Then come back, pick up some lobster caught fresh that day and steam them in the lobster cooker on the deck and watch the boats coming in! Its what we do in Maine.....The way life should be!
