The Setting:

Two miles from Tahoe City and on Lake Tahoe's North Shore, this Lake Tahoe Vacation Rental home is perfect for either a winter or summer vacation. It is conveniently located for skiing at Squaw Valley, Alpine Meadows, Northstar, or Homewood ski areas. The home is also easy and safe to drive to when there is snow on the road, as it is down hill from the main highway (28) to the house, and down hill back to the highway. This home is one of the nicest Lake Tahoe Vacation Rental Homes available! For the EXACT location, go to Google Maps, the copy and paste: 3150 Meadow Brook Drive, 96145

For summer vacationers, it is: a five minute walk to a quiet beach with a pier and swimming area; two blocks from a bicycle path that takes you to Tahoe City, the West Shore of Tahoe, and along the Truckee to Squaw Valley; three blocks to the entrance to some of the best mountain bike trails of the Sierra Nevada; a two mile walk (or drive) to Tahoe City's excellent shopping and dining spots; and within a twenty five minute drive from nine golf courses that offer some of the most scenic and challenging golf in the West. Do you have a boat? If so, we can arrange for you to use a buoy. The location is convenient to the many activities of Tahoe, yet it is quiet and private.

The home has a 180 degree view of the mountains and Lake Tahoe. You can view Alpine Meadows to the west, and look across Tahoe at the Casinos and Heavenly Valley to the south, 27 miles away. The setting is particularly nice during the summer, when you can enjoy the large decks for relaxing, dining, or cocktails at sunset. This home offers the best Lake Tahoe has to give.

The Home:

Recent upgrades to our home include: a new kitchen with granite counter tops, tile floor, new appliances, and new cabinets; granite counter tops and new cabinets in the master bath, and tile in the master shower area; tile entry way; new carpet; and repainting of the interior, DSL High Speed Internet (Wireless or Ethernet) and by mid-summer of 2012 we will have another bathroom with a double vanity and another room with a separate toilet/vanity (total~5 bathrooms, as 11 people can concurrently be doing something in the bathrooms).

There are six regular size bedrooms, two small bedrooms, four large bathrooms (configured with two double vanity areas, two bath/toilet areas, and one regular bathroom), a separate toilet/vanity room; two living rooms, two dining rooms, library area, two very well equipped kitchens, two 450 sq. ft. sunny decks, sauna, and a washer/dryer area. We provide a VCR (2), a DVD, large screen HDTV (2), both with surround sound, a Bose equipped stereo system, a C/D, a well stocked library, a telephone answering machine, and a convenient spot for setting up your lap top/Internet ready computer, DSL wireless or ethernet. We provide linens and electric blankets for your convenience and comfort. And for your dining enjoyment, we provide spices, an enormous assortment of cooking accessories and appliances; a microwave oven, place settings for 16, wine and champagne glasses for 17+, 2 Propane BBQ's, and a coffee maker.

This is our second home, but we treat it as our first. It is a comfortable, beautiful, ready-to-be-lived-in home.

About Leo and Kathy Craft

Kathy and I have been Tahoe people forever. We have had season ski passes at Squaw and Diamond Peak for 40 years and have regarded Tahoe as our summer and winter home for nearly 20 years. We live part time in Los Altos, California, but we spend the winters and the summers at our home in Incline Village, NV, skiing in the winter, and playing golf, hiking, and bicycle riding in the summer. Tahoe is our home.

Leo and Kathy Craft purchased this house in 1977

Why Leo and Kathy Craft chose Lake Tahoe North Shore

After renting 'ski cabins' for the winter for many years, we decided to build one that was large enough to accommodate our friends and ski cabin members. This is why our home has eight bedrooms. We wanted privacy for ourselves and our friends. For several years we used our home as a ski cabin and as our friends moved away or bought their own places, we turned our home into a vacation rental. Since we live in Incline Village, only 20 minutes from Tahoe City, we are able to spend 'down time' remodeling and maintaining our home. Every year we make improvements and love doing them.

One of the many reasons we chose this location was because it has easy winter access. It is hard to imagine, but it is down hill to our house and down hill back to the main road. We have never owned a four wheel drive vehicle, so easy, chain free, winter access has always been essential.

And last, we chose this specific location because it is on a large lot in a private and quiet setting. From our living room you cannot see other homes and very few cars enter our neighborhood.

What makes this house unique

Our most enjoyable time at our home is spent either on the deck, by the fireplace, skiing (in the winter) or hanging out at the lake (in the summer). Skylandia beach is a five minute walk down a beautiful forest path. We love walking down to the beach before sunset, sitting on the pier, and enjoying a glass of wine and a beautiful Tahoe sunset. This time of the day is also the time when the last of the pleasure boats are passing and heading toward the West Shore and Tahoe City marinas. The other benefit that we enjoy about our location is that we are walking distance, along a walking/bicycle path to the grocery stores and restaurants of Tahoe City. It is about a 25 minute walk or a 5 minute bicycle ride. Traffic can be bad around Tahoe City and having this convenience is sometimes invaluable.

Review, Incline Village Studio

Leo and Kathy are delightful hosts! They were both so helpful, quiet, and considerate. The unique studio apartment was just as pictured and offered everything I needed for my three night, two day stay. The neighborhood is pleasant with beautiful surroundings. I find it quite nice to be among those that live in a community versus being in a hotel. It helps me to feel more like a local and is relaxing. The studio apartment is within a short distance to Lake Tahoe and to the hiking trails. It was about a mile and a half from Incline Village. This was especially helpful for me, as it made it easy to join family members that were staying at the Hyatt there . I liked that it had a small kitchen for food preparation, the refrigerator and hot plate were new. The kitchen was well equipped and had all the dishes and utensils that were needed. There was a nice bathroom with a bathtub and shower. All towels were supplied for daily use. In the large space there was a gas fireplace to ward off the evening chill. The two bunk beds were cozy and warm with plenty of blankets and offered a great night sleep! I am not a big television person, however the T.V. was large with all the options available in viewing and in music. If you have any questions regarding where to hike or where to bike, (and as to where to ski in the winter time) Leo has plenty of suggestions. Leo and Kathy offered me a bike to use while I was there. I used the bike my first afternoon after a long drive from the LA area. It gave me the opportunity to explore the neighborhood a bit and to stretch my legs after a long car ride. At one point, Leo was ready and willing to drive me to the Flume Trail, so I could ride down on the mountain bike! Unfortunately my time there ran out, so I will have to wait until my next visit. Leo and Kathy also seem to know when to give you privacy and when to

Great Holiday Place for the family

  • 5 of 5

I stopped by to visit my family at this great house and was impressed by the size and comfortability for all of the guests. There was plenty of room to not crowd each other and the lake is a short walk down the hill.

I hope to bring my family here next year to celebrate the holidays as it really felt like Xmas and being here even for a short time was special.

Great rental for multigenerational gatherings

  • 5 of 5

We had 3 generations in attendance, ranging in age from 72 to 2. The house is large, well-equipped, well laid out, comfortable, and well maintained. Large enough to be together when you like, with room for privacy when you prefer that. The location is very nice. It’s about a 8-10 minute wooded walk to a nice sandy beach on the lake. It’s a short drive to Tahoe City.

CAVEATS:

Small kids. There are two decks, and since it’s on a mountainside, the upper deck is very high above the ground. The pickets on the decks are very far apart and would be easy for a small child to fall through. Leo has a mesh he puts up to fill the gaps between the pickets when little ones are resident. If you’re going to have small kids along, be sure to tell Leo in advance so the mesh is installed.

Oldsters. The three flights of stairs can be a lot of climbing, especially if chasing a 2 year old. On the other hand, exercise is always a good thing!

The Jacuzzi. The house rules call for over-chlorinating the Jacuzzi. The result is it makes your eyes hurt! On the other hand, it wasn’t grungy, as is often the case at rentals.

COMMENTS:

The downstairs kitchen/living room is well equipped as a place for young adults to escape to. The lower kitchen is not well equipped for cooking, but it doesn't need to be since the seating downstairs is relatively small, and you’re unlikely to use that kitchen for large meals. The Jacuzzi is on the deck on that level.

Leo was very responsive to email inquiries. We had some minor breakage while there, and he was fair with us in every instance.

Just before arrival, Leo will send you a mountain of house rules and instructions. These caused us concern that he would be heavy handed about the return of the security deposit. (Fairly enough, a reasonable amount of the deposit is routinely charged for cleaning, assuming the house is left in good order.) I've concluded the reason the house is in good order is because renters are routinely concerned about the many house rules and not getting their security deposit returned, so the place does not show signs of abuse. Bottom line: Leo will be fair if you take good care of his very comfortable house.

Tahoe 8 Bedroom Home.....a real home

  • 5 of 5

We are from Hawaii and have stayed at this spacious 8 bedroom home for about 4 years now for 1 week periods. We basically go to Tahoe to ski and this home's location is convenient to Northstar and Squaw Valley and many of our favorite restaruants.

This house has everything! Great, accurate photos of the home helped us make our decision.. Comfy yet classy. When we're there we sometimes hook up a Karaoke machine and sing. Then we go out to ski, dine, and shop. Although the home is well suited for families, we have 8-12 adults and treasure the privacy of 8 bedrooms.

Owners were always available and returned phone calls if we had questions.

I would highly recommend this home.

Very nice owners!

  • 5 of 5

I will second the other review - the owners are wonderful to work with and make the overall experience of booking very pleasant. I unfortunately was not able to stay in the house as something came up and I was unable to, but I truly wish that I had had the opportunity to go...By far and away the nicest owners I have ever interacted with through VRBO!
