My boyfriend and I stayed at Maria's Place in Oia, Santorini for 7 nights and it was by far the greatest experience we have had. This was our first time traveling to Europe and we were a little nervous at first. It is hard to trust reviews from websites with all the scam artists in the world. Anna and Kostas are NOT scam artists. They are truly wonderful people! They have answered my many questions thoroughly via email and provided detailed activities for us to do throughout our stay. When we arrived to Santorini airport, we were supposed to be picked up by Kostas; however, my flight landed much earlier than expected so we took a taxi for 35 euros. Anna's warm welcome when we arrived was lovely after our 11+ hour flight. After we checked into our room, Anna sat down with us and explained the entire island to us and showed us all the excursions we can do. I definitely recommend the Sunset Oia Catamaran tour for 95 euros per person! It includes food, alcoholic drinks, swimming/snorkeling at 2 beaches, as well as a stop to the Hot Springs (don't wear a white bathing suit if you plan on taking a mud bath). The room was extremely clean and comfortable. It had every kitchen appliance needed for our stay, and we went to the market down the road for a couple of items to keep in the fridge as well.
Maria's Place is a quite, remote location from the bustling center of Oia. The town is a 10 minute walk down the road, where there are plenty of shops, restaurants, and views of the beautiful white homes nestled into the cliff-side. Every picture taken can be put on a post card! Santorini does have public bus transportation; however, if you want the leisure of going out whenever you want, I would recommend renting a car. My boyfriend and I rented a 150cc ATV/Quad for the entire week from Panos (email@example.com) for 190 Euros. He was lovely to work with, answered my emails efficiently, as well as dropped off and picked up the ATV. In order to rent the ATV, you need an International Drivers permit (I got one from NY-DMV for $20). The only thing not included in the price was gas (we only spent 12 Euros on gas for the entire week)! I definitely recommend renting an ATV for the week. It gives you the opportunity to go anywhere on the island on your own time, and really experience the beauty of the island.
Check out Kamari, Vlychada, Perissa, Red/White Beach & seafood restaurants at the bottom of the 250 step trek to Ammoudi Bay. This place is a must stay!!
Maria's Place was the perfect place to stay for our wonderful trip to Santorini. It is truly lovely, very clean, and comfortable with every convenience. We made time to relax outside and enjoy the patio and flowers after every busy day. The location is down a quiet road. It is easy walking distance to the Oia shops and sights. It is also within a few minutes walk of the spectacular cliff-side hike toward Fira, and in the opposite direction the pretty town of Finikia. Anna was so welcoming. She told us everything we needed to know to make the most of our visit to the island, which saved us hours and hours of time. She told us how to use the bus to get to all parts of the island (fare-1.60 Euro per trip), and also the most beautiful traditional villages, and beaches to visit. She gave us excellent advice on different places to eat and interesting places to see like a historic winery and archaeological site. When we asked about a boat tour we were interested in, she made all of the arrangements for us even being picked up at the door. Our trip to Santorini was a dream come true thanks to Maria's Place and the kindness, knowledge, and help from Anna.

It was our first time in Santorini and Maria's Place was the perfect escape! Our vacation started well with Kostas meeting us at the port. We would have been overwhelmed if he was not there to pick us up! When we got there, Anna gave us a warm welcome; showed us to our room; and asked us to come see her once we got settled. She gave us so much useful information! Because of her, we were able to explore and enjoy Oia to its fullest!
Our room was perfect! It was nice and clean and had a great view of the ocean. We appreciated the daily maid service too! Maria's Place is in a great location too. It's about a 12-15 minute walk to town. Once you're in town, you had plenty of dining options. And the views...?! My husband and I kept pinching ourselves to make sure that we were really there.
Take the walk from Oia to Fira! It can be a bit of a challenge but you cannot beat the view! Plus you can take your time and stop at cafes along the way. Rent an ATV or car(rent it in Fira because they are much cheaper) and explore Santorini! My husband and I rented an ATV for two days and explored most of the island. We were able to see some cute and quaint towns along the way. Such a great experience! And of course, the food...! OMG, we could not get enough! Check out Kyria Niki's. It's a 10 minute drive from Fira on the way to the airport. They make the BEST tomato keftedes(tomato balls), awesome grilled white eggplants, lamb chops to die for and the BEST cocala(I think this is how it's spelled)-braised pig leg! My husband and I ate dinner there two nights in a row because the food is soooo good! It's a whole in a wall but amazing home cooking!
All right, enough of the food. Stay at Maria's Place because it's a great place. You can relax, unwind and find yourself again! And Anna and Kostas made the stay even better because of their "red carpet" hospitality! We would definitely go back!
It is not so easy to not overpay and to stay in a beautiful place in Santorini. We were lucky to find Maria's place!
Beautiful views from your balcony, amazing sunsets (better than in a super crowded castle of Oia), perfect location (10 mins walk to Oia and same to Finikia, which is an amazing little traditional village, an absolute must see), perfectly clean, airconditioned...what else can you ask for! We stayed 10 days, 5 of them we had rented a car (even if the bus stop is 2 mins from the place). We cooked some light meals at home which we really enjoyed in our balcony with an amazing view...the host, Anna, is one of the best host we ever met. You feel VIP, you feel that she really cares! all her advices were very good (we would have never found a small fish restaurant where only locals go, if not her advice- we had an amazing fresh fish dinner there for 30 eur in two :) ).
the place is extremely peaceful, and its a real joy after a busy and always full of tourists center of Oia...
the apartments are cleaned daily, the towels are changed (almost never happens with self-catering apartments!).
We had a great stay at Maria's Place - so beautifully decorated and designed by Anna. When we flew in to Santorini, Costas gave us a ride to Maria's Place, which we truly appreciated. As we arrived, we were greeted lovingly by Anna with delicious cake and espresso, which made my day! :) She patiently went through the sites we should go in our stay there and helped us make the most of our time there. I am really glad she did!
Beautifully located with a gorgeous view of the sea, Maria's Place provides plenty of chances to dip in the pool or go for a walk into the village of Oia or just hang in a the nearby restaurants or cafes. Everything is a short walk from this spot. With Anna's help we also could find a nice cruise to the nearby islands including the volcano besides some lovely restaurants and coffee shops in Oia.
Five stars to Anna for the energy efficient design and water conservation and sustainable measures out of sheer thoughtfulness.
Two thumbs up and strongly recommended!
I admit, I was blessed to be able to spend two full weeks on Santorini this month (April 2013), it was the most fantastic luxury. Fortunately for me, I chose to spend those two weeks at Maria's Place with wonderful hosts Anna and Kostas. The price was definitely right, the location was great (easily walkable to the main area of Oia with all the shops and great sunset-viewing), and the room was very well appointed with everything I needed - free WiFi, refrigerator, double burner, microwave, cooking utensils, pots, a pan, drinking glasses, wine glasses, a large bowl, place settings for four, the full setup. Since I was there for so long, I cooked my own meals a lot but I also got out and enjoyed the local restaurants - which I sincerely recommend. Anna was great about giving me insider tips of where to go, what to see, directions, and generally anything I needed. The view from my room looked out to the ocean and was absolutely beautiful. There was a balcony with a nice table and two chairs. I enjoyed having my wine there in the evenings and tea or coffee during the day. Frankly, I did not notice how often the sheets on the bed were changed but it was certainly re-made and the room cleaned everyday. The towels were changed every couple of days which was often enough for me. One of my favorite parts of the day was sitting in the lovely shaded outdoor communal seating area with Anna in the mornings, having coffee, and talking about my day. And if there is strawberry jam, have some, because Anna probably made it herself and it is delicious! Honestly, I had a great couple of weeks on Santorini and that is in large part because of Anna and Kostas and their wonderful hospitality. I highly recommend Maria's Place!
