Guestbook comments from the owner

We booked the apartment for 1 week, however, we were enjoying ourselves so much, we decided to make it 9 days, we used the decking area in the evenings for drinks while enjoyting the wonderful views. Valerie, our hostess couldent have been more helpful, we will be back again next year!

Perfect spot to wind down.

Loved, loved Sunset Crag. So enjoyed being on the water and this location is perfect. It was fun to watch the fishing boats, sailboats and stand up paddlers out front. Valerie was a great hostess even though she was away on holiday. We checked in with the neighbours and Valerie sent a family member to check that we were ok and didn't need anything. The unfortunate thing was that we were only there for 4 days and didn't get a chance to really explore the area. Skerries is a lovely little town and while we were there it was awarded The Tidiest Town in Ireland award. One thing not to miss is the UNESCO site at Newgrange, a Neolithic passageway tomb that predates the Pyramids and Stonehenge. It is about a half hour drive from Skerries. Valerie's accommodation was very comfortable and we had everything we needed. Thank you for the lovely scones and basic supplies waiting for us on arrival. Hopefully we will get to meet Valerie on our next trip.

Wonderful experience!!

  • 5 of 5

Wanted to add my voice to the chorus that love this wonderful seaside cottage. Valerie has got to be one of the most helpful friendly, helpful and generous hosts that we have stayed with. She had treats of homemade scones and jam ready as we walked in the door. She even had stocked up on some initial supplies for us to boot. Valerie drove us around the village showing us pubs, the market, the train station and other sites. I would say this if you are planning a trip to stay in Dublin in the future you should seriously think about staying in this quiet oasis -- which is just a quick half hour to Dublin on the train. Many thanks Valerie for our great stay!

I can't wait to go back!

  • 5 of 5

I can't say enough good things about my stay at Valerie's. Even before we arrived, Valerie was so accommodating. It was my first trip to Ireland and she was very helpful with directions and advice for things to do before we got there. Her place is an easy 45ish minute train ride from Dublin and only a 20 minute cab ride from the Dublin airport. Skerries is a beautiful town and was one of the most beautiful views (especially from the living room window and back sitting area) I saw while in Ireland. Her place is beautiful, clean, and cozy. The bed was very comfortable, bathroom was well-equipped, and the living room and kitchen area were very open... Plenty of room for 2 additional people on the pull out couch and living room area! Valerie had scones out in the kitchen for us upon arrival and called us cabs whenever we needed to travel to the airport. I would highly recommend this place to anyone (families, couples, friends, etc) and I hope it is available during my next visit to Ireland!

Cozy, unique space and Valerie was a very friendly and helpful host.

The seaside cottage was as described, all amenities, ideal location on the beach and in the neat little town of Skerries. A great home base to take a nearby train to Dublin or local attractions (Howth was a great outing), but also with the feel of a small Irish town. Valerie offered up great suggestions on things to do and see, but she also gave us our space when we wanted. I would highly recommend this place to anyone. Thanks for the great time!

Sunset Crag - good situation in Town of Skerries

  • 2 of 5

The location of the accommodation was good with lovely sea views, the town of Skerries and surrounding area beautiful. We enjoyed three rounds of golf at nearby courses in Skerries and Balbriggan.

However, we booked Sunset Crag for two weeks in June looking forward to coffee in the morning and wine in the evening on the decking. When making the booking the accommodation description indicated we would have access to an area overlooking the sea. We imagined it would be exclusive use. Unfortunately, we did not experience that.

Our hostess, Valerie - a lovely friendly lady - lives immediately below the attic conversion and her home opens onto the decking. It felt uncomfortable to sit outside and on one occasion when we planned to do so, her family were using the area having a barbeque.

Also as our accommodation was immediately above Valerie's home, the ordinary level of everyday noise from her extended family was at times loud and on the whole audible during the times we were in. When planning to enjoy some chilling time reading and/or watching TV the noise was certainly a distraction.

For the reasons above Sunset Crag attic apartment did not fulfil our expectations and we feel, having paid a lot of money for the accommodation, very disappointed.

Owner's Response: Sorry that these clients were unhappy with their stay, unfortunately, the weather during these 2 weeks was very bad so there were very few days to enjoy the decking , this area is not exclusive for apartment guests only, however , it is only on rare occasions that it is used by the host family, on those particular 2 weeks I did have family staying, so the noise factor was a little more than normal, I have taken this review on board and will make sure to check with guests during their stay so as I can fix any problem while guests are here.
