Casa Belevedere was exactly as it was described! The property was in a wonderful (although relatively remote) location and I would say a car is essential. It was very well maintained and clean. Stunning views and not overlooked by any other property. We stayed in the converted chestnut barn. Simple and rustic in taste. The owners provided a wonderful service. Even offering to meet us when we got lost. Hospitality pack was provided which was a nice touch and lots of information was provided in terms of tourist attractions. The owners were very willing to provide information on a particular aspect that we enquired about (hiking in the area).
A wonderful gesture by the owners of providing us with breakfast one morning ......a plate of fresh baked croissants and pastries.
There are lots of ristorante and trattorias in the locality although not within immediate vicinity. Lucca is only a 20 minute drive away too. Fascinating city.
All in all the hospitality and warmth provided by the owners made our holiday a very enjoyable one. I would certainly recommend it for a quite rural holiday and most certainly would recommend to friends.
My husband and I decided to book the larger property to give us extra space and privacy and as we liked the look of Fiordaliso.
This proved a good choice, we had the the complex to ourselves as there were no other guests and were able to enjoy the peace and privacy. The only downside is the property is on a sharp bend next to the road and during the peak times morning and evening there is a bit of horn honking by motorists to indicate their presence for safety reasons.
The terrace next to the kitchen is wonderful, likewise the views and there is plenty of shade provided by the large umbrella and the adjoining utility barn and trees.
The property is lovely inside and perfect for two, I personally would not like to stay if there were four adults as the second bedroom is small which consists of a wardrobe and bed settee. The flooring is boards only so there is little privacy between floors.
The gardens around the property were beautiful in May and surrounding the property are working fields belonging to the local villagers of San Gennaro. The village itself is beautiful and the climb not too steep.
The local shop/bar/restaurant is closed on Mondays and the menu looked fairly basic, did not try so cannot comment if good. We did try the restaurant in the square in Collodi but were not impressed by the food so we dined on our terrace for the rest of our meals at night which was much more relaxing and with our own private view and terrace the evenings were wonderful, especially when the fireflies came out.
We would definitely stay here again and recommend to friends. Thank you Petronela and Gianmarco for a lovely stay and for saving us when we got lost en route.
The surrounding area offers ours visitors many opportunities to spend their holidays, walks, visiting the art cities of Tuscany, tast the local products such as wine and olive oil, tasting festivals, cultural events and artisans market that occur throughout the year.
San Gennaro is a small village placed on the hills of Lucca at only 2 km from Collodi with the famous Park of Pinocchio and 14 km from Lucca the birthplace of Puccini, a medieval town surrounded by an impressing fortification perfectly preserved.
It is an excellent location to visit the famous art towns of Tuscany:Florence, Pisa, Siena. You can enjoy also the famous thermal baths of Montecatini at 16km and Bagni di Lucca at 28km, or the beaches of Viareggio at 35km and Forte di Marmi at 45km away.
The village San Gennaro is a little corner of Tuscany immersed through olive grove and vineyard, still genuine and all to discover, with tight roads but full of fascination and history. The church, beyond an intrinsic importance, enclose a fascinating angel recently attributed to Leonardo da Vinci. The houses are set in a silver-tipped olive grove and have a magnificent panoramic view over the peaceful hills.
