Ski at the family-friendly resort Sol Vista only 25 minutes away, or Winter Park Resort, only 45 minutes away.

Property is abundant with wildlife-- watch the Moose graze along the pristine mountain lake shoreline--just a few feet away from the deck. Chalet-side main floor has an open-concept kitchen w/ great room plus half-bath and laundry room. The 2 living areas are connected via a large central front entrance into a convenient large foyer/mudroom, w/ doors that can close off each side for privacy. Both kitchens are fully equipped w/ 2 of almost everything.

A large outside deck spans the entire back of the home overlooking the lake, w/ seating for 14+, propane firepit and gas grill (propane provided).

The warmth of hand-hewn natural log is everywhere, brightened by the soaring 30 ft ceilings in the Chalet side w/ a huge wall of windows overlooking the lake and mountains. Home is comfortable and inviting--tastefully decorated w/ quality furnishings and bedding, and classic mountain lodge decor--yet totally family friendly.

Relax on the large deck overlooking the lake, catch record-breaking trout in Sun Valley Lake right from our private dock or small sandy beach or boat. Guests enjoy full use of our canoe, kayak, pedal boat, inner tubes, life vests and fishing gear. As a guest of our home, you also have exclusive private access for fly-fishing on the Colorado River located 1/4 mile from front door.

(maps and guidebooks provided) Nap in the hammock in the afternoon breeze. Paddle the lake at sunset as the trout are jumping and the alpenglow appears on the mountains. Roast marshmallows in the beach firepit under a brilliant star-filled sky.

Enjoy a game of ping pong or fooseball, or explore our extensive library of books, DVD's, wii games, board games, and puzzles. Wrap yourself in a cozy blanket and find one of the many quiet nooks in this home to snuggle in a chair by the fire, let go, and relax!

The Winding River Resort is within walking distance, and here you can enjoy guided horseback rides into RMNP, pony rides, a petting zoo, basketball courts, evening activities such as square dancing, cowboy poetry, etc. An 18 hole golf course is 3 miles away, and you can also ride your ATV or snowmobile right from our driveway to 150+ miles of groomed trails. About Kami Gilmour

We're from Fort Collins, Colorado and a large, active family with 5 kids and 2 grandchildren. We love living the 'Colorado lifestyle' ...skiing, hiking, snowshoeing, boating, fishing, snowmobiling and ATV'ing ...and hanging out by the lake in our log home!

Kami Gilmour purchased this house in 2011

Why Kami Gilmour chose Rocky Mountain National Park

We searched for a Colorado vacation home for 10 years with a list of 'must haves' before finding our dream home. The Sun Valley Ranch neighborhood embodied everything we could imagine--lakefront, riverfront, mountain views, direct access to hiking/biking/snowmobile trails, and the 'get away' feeling but less than10 minutes away from town!

Wedding at Twin Pines

  • 5 of 5

I had a pretty last minute wedding change (I went from 150 people in September to 14 people in October) last fall and I was in desperate need of a venue that could house my family who was coming in town, had the exact look I wanted, and was available on the date my photographer had open- all of which needed to be in the right price range. Kami, the owner, was beyond communicative, supportive, flexible, and so generous! She was there they day we arrived to show us around the property, how to work appliances, etc. I had the most perfect wedding day and couldn't have imagined anything better. You will not be disappointed at your stay!

Perfect for our Family Reunion

  • 5 of 5

My family of 22 spent 5 wonderful days at Twin Pines celebrating my mothers 95th birthday. There was comfortable sleeping for all of us, well-equipped kitchens, plenty of games, outdoor and water sports equipment. We particularly enjoyed the fire pit on the deck as we sat around enjoying each other's company. The "kids", young and old loved the kyak, canoe, paddle boards and peddle boat. The best part was seeing moose every day on and around the property. Even had one look on at our last evening campfire. Everyone agreed it's the BEST place to stay whether you want a quiet getaway or lots of activities and adventure.

From the moment we walked into Twin Pines, with its unique character, we all were very impressed with the way owner carefully outfitted the property with every want/need we could imagine. We arrived to celebrate our parents 60th Anniversary. Ages ranged from 18 months to 85 years young. What a memorable location to relax and focus on them!! It is easy to state, without exaggeration, that this will be remembered as one of the nicest places we have stayed, to date. Our only regret is that we could not stay longer. Each of us commented that we could have stayed much longer and never have exhausted the pleasure of the residence and the surroundings. We were even provided a moose encounter in the backyard for our enjoyment on the last evening of our stay. The cabin and lake access were exceptionally nice, beyond expectation. EVERYTHING is provided from bug repellent to boots to warm jackets to condiments. There was also fishing tackle, canoe, kayak, paddle boat, mountain bikes and plenty of firewood. The fire pit even had tinder and fire starter in place, ready to go! Thank-you for a very enjoyable week! I have already recommended this location to 2 other gents from my office. Highly recommend O&A Bistro in Grand Lake Village for brunch.

I am a VRBO regular. And I have to say that our stay at Twin Pines was the BEST EVER!

First in meeting Kami, setting the scene for a friendly and comfortable level that just continued through our stay making us all feel like we were "home" in the mountains. Then to follow... an adventure that will stay in many hearts and memories for a life time.

My daughter was getting married in Estes Park and we used the cabin for our family to stay before and after.

We saw a mother moose and her baby walk through the property, elk surrounding the area, deer bouncing across the roads, fish jumping and even a bird (not sure what kind) swoop down and catch a fish. Our out of state visitors were very impressed... little did they know we were too. :-)

The large dinning room table was the place of great card games, wonderful food, and smile inducing laughter. The adjoining living room area...a place of deep conversations and a place I often found myself just sitting in the great leather chair, eyes closed... listening to all the happiness.

It rained most the time we were here. No worries... in between the rain all the lake goers ran outside and still canoed, kayaked, paddle boated and paddle boarded. The grand kids went on adventures (fairy house, interesting rocks, and made sand castles on the beach). Others went for bike rides, hikes.... and when the rain came back in... we were all around the table again... playing and laughing, cooking and singing.

One night... it was a perfect night for a bonfire... we all surrounded the fire under the incredible stars and sang and enjoyed each other-family. :-). One song, my niece sang (a Celtic ballad) quieted the entire lake... as I sat with my sweety in the chairs on the dock-holding hands, the water still and glassy, everyone in all the other homes around the lake became still.... and her voice blanketed the entire night... it was just her voice and the stars. People cheered for her to continue. It was a time I will remember forever!

I could go on and on about this place. It is a place for anyone that is looking for magic! It's a place to come together and enjoy what matters in life...FAMILY!

I will come back again with my family...DEFINITELY!

I almost didn't want anyone to know how great this place was so we could enjoy it all ourselves... but I couldn't. :-)

Birthday surprise - best trip ever!

  • 5 of 5

My husband surprised me with a family trip for my 40th birthday. This was by far the most relaxing trip I've ever had. The cabin was stocked with everything we could have wanted - board games, fishing equipment, bikes, and more. Everyone from grandma to 7 year old boys had a great time. There was plenty of room for our group of 11 and everyone had space for quiet time. The beds were comfortable and the linens were nice. We ventured out for horseback riding and ATV's and saw elk and moose. I loved relaxing on the deck and watching the hummingbirds - there were so many! The firepit was used for s'more making and to keep everyone warm as the evenings were chilly. The people we met while fishing on the lake were wonderful and even helped us find the best spot to catch fish. You know it is a great trip when kids and teenagers aren't asking to look at iPads! My family can't wait to go back and plans to make an annual trip to Twin Pines cabin.

Great cabin for a fun family vacation!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time at this cabin for a family reunion. We had Grandparents, kids and infants staying with us for the week. The location was about 5 minutes from Grand Lake town with Rocky Mountain National Park being even closer. There were many activities accessible to us due to being in Grand Lake, but the main benefit of this property was the many activities on site! Fishing, canoeing, paddle boarding, paddleboating, kayaking, were some of the water sports we could do - and because the cabin is located on a large pond (lake?) the water was way warmer than Grand Lake (so swimming was no a problem). The depth averages about 3-4 feet from what we could tell so we were comfortable with our kid swimmers going out on canoes and boats alone. Also there is horseshoes, volleyball, hammocking, using a fire pit, as well as hiking trails a walk away. This was a great place to juts hang out and have outdoor activities - no one was inclined to stay inside (though I hear they have a Wii and Direct TV - which we did not use). I would consider this for any family visiting Grand Lake who has kids (ours were aged 11-2 - plus one of 2 months).
