The Green Gate Barn Home is a one of two exceptional vacation rentals on a private 13 acre farmstead (see The Green Gate Farmhouse, our other vacation rental offering). We are conveniently located adjacent to the Giants Ridge Recreation Area. Our guests enjoy direct access to the Mesabi Bike Trail, skiing and golfing at Giants Ridge, and lounging at the beaches of Embarrass Lake just a short walk from our door. We are a year-round destination, catering to nordic and alpine skiers, cyclists, paddlers, golfers and those simply choosing to relax at our historic homestead retreat.
Green Gate is a truly unique barn home, combining all the modern amenities with the rustic charm of the original 1935 hay barn that inspired the project. Shawn is a degreed professional (Mechanical Engineering and Nutrition Science) who relocated from the Twin Cities to northern Minnesota in 2002. Since that time, he has worked in a variety of positions, while also renovating the historic property that is now the site of two vacation rentals. I built these vacation homes on our historic 13 acre homestead to provide a one-of-a-kind lodging option for the many travelers to this area.
“We were all very fortunate to stay in your beautiful guest house. It’s a home-away-from-home. Lots of laughs and wonderful memories with great friends! We had a blast snowboarding and a couple girls got massages! We all have established there will be another visit in the future. Thanks for everything and the warm hospitality”
The Green Gate Barn Home is impeccably maintained and impressively built! We couldn't believe all the detail and thought that went into this cozy, amazing little home, from the staircase that lights up as you go up or down, to the birthday candles in a kitchen drawer. Every detail is taken care of to make your stay as relaxing and stress-less as possible. You will want to move in and stay forever!
Just spent our second sister get together at the Barn. Perfect for preparing dinner for our friends from the area, as everything we need is right there - just like home. Very private and so beautiful. A perfect place to explore the North country - hiking, biking, skiing, water and winter sports are right outside your door. Which guest house to choose is the question, as they are all so unique. We are in awe of Shawn's craftsmanship. All questions and inquiries are answered immediately and each guest house is immaculate and well maintained. We have recommended these beautiful guest houses at the "Farm" to all our friends. We will be back very soon.

Had a great visit to the Northland and the Barn Home played a key role. It was centrally located for the numerous activities during the East Range All-Class Reunion. The home was so comfy and well-appointed that I was tempted to just "hang out" and skip all the running around. It was a great place to visit with family members who stopped by. It will definitely be my first choice whenever I visit The Range in the future.
Our family of six drove into Biwabik during a mid-March winter storm warning, but all roads were plowed and we had no trouble or delays. The foot of fresh snow provided breathtaking scenery and perfect spring skiing at Giant's Ridge. We loved hanging out at the Green Gate Barn, playing games and sharing meals around the silo's unique dining table, reading books stashed throughout the home, and watching the first March Madness games upset all of our brackets. The home is charming, immaculate, cozy -- and well-stocked! For a change of pace, we explored nearby trails or drove to the Giant's Ridge Lodge to swim in the pool. For us, the Green Gate Barn was a perfect getaway! Shaun made trip planning easy with his kind and prompt replies. Thank you!
This was our second year spending President's Day Weekend at the "Barn" at Green Gate Guest Houses. We were moms/teen daughters looking for some down time, and this was the perfect place to retreat. The Barn, with all of it's charm, was comfortable space to relax for a long weekend. We enjoyed every feature including cooking post ski meals in the well stocked kitchen, watching movies, and playing games in the "silo" dining area. We made a bonfire and roasted marshmallows in the outdoor fire pit that was well stocked with all supplies to build a fire. The house was clean, well maintained, and well appointed with linens, kitchen utensils, games, and books. The alpine area was easy to access. We will definitely be back next year!
The green barn is a unique experience. The property is wonderful, you will not be disappointed. Sean is awesome, so accommodating for any of your needs. Highly recommend this vacation destination.
