Colonial Beach Cottage Rental Photos and Description

3 Bedroom and 2 Bathrooms with bonus kids loft; sleeps 5 to 7 guests

The Beachcomber II enjoys a great in-town location....steps to the beach, restaurants, entertainment, and shops. We are family and pet friendly with a fenced yard and a fun playground just through the gate in the backyard.

The Beachcomber II features hardwood floors and soft relaxing colors throughout. You will pass under the dogwood trees through the front door and enter into the sunroom, into a large livingroom with cable television, pick your bedroom and get ready for family meals in the eat-in kitchen. Your choice of bedrooms is a sunny twin room with built-in-bookcases, a master bedroom, with queen bed and private bath or a queen size bedroom across from the second bathroom with clawfoot tub/shower. A bonus kids loft is upstairs with two twin beds, and window seat; we recommend it for for kids.

While enjoying your stay with us, we have provided an outdoor dining space under the trees with a gas grill. WIFI is provided.

Beachcomber II is a charming cottage, great for families, couples or girl's getaway. We began welcoming guests to our first cottage, Beachcomber I on Hawthorn in 2011 and we so enjoyed giving guests a great place to relax and get-away. With the success of Beachcomber I, we bought this charming cottage in 2012. After a total renovation the Beachcomber II; a 3 bedroom, 2 bath vacation cottage with kid's sleeping loft is steps to the beach, shops and restaurants. Each year, we spend time in the off season to see what we need to replace or add. This year we upgraded one of the bathrooms and built a new shed for bikes and beach toys, added new Adirondack chairs under the front trees. Please come and enjoy!

The beauty of the Beachcomber is it is perfect for families and couples. The cottage features one floor living, unless you are a kid and want to escape to the kid's loft. We have a large fenced yard with a gate that opens to the town playground. We welcome well-behaved dogs; pet fee applies.

The enjoyment of the Beachcomber II isn't limited to the house. Along with the fenced yard; we feature a gas grill and outside dining under the trees, right outside the kitchen door. great for grilling out and crab picking! And just steps from the house are restaurants, shops, the beach, and fishing pier...be sure to get a soft serve ice cream at Nancy's, which you can see through the trees!

Colonial Beach, Virginia; 60 miles from DC,but a world away... Colonial Beach, Virginia...the Gateway to the Northern Neck of Virginia.... a beach front haven, less than 2 hours from DC, along the Potomac River. Many say, it is place that time has forgotten with it's slow pace, friendly people who wave as they drive past you on their golf carts, wide beaches where the Potomac River is 4 to 6 miles wide, within minutes to historical attractions; George Washington's Birthplace; the Lee Family Home, Stratford Plantation, explore Westmoreland State Park, and find Shark's teeth and more, great boating, fishing, crabbing, and discover the Chesapeake Bay Wine Trail, Westmoreland Berry Farm, several great waterfront restaurants, waterfront live bands on weekends during the summer, and great crabs.

Spring and early summer is a beautiful time at the Beach, to enjoy a much quieter waterfront and explore the region's history and wineries!

Thanks for looking and be prepared to fall in love with Colonial Beach and the Northern Neck!

About Cathy Bokman

My husband and I, who live and work in the DC area, fell in love with Colonial Beach on our first visit in 2005 and bought a weekend house shortly thereafter. Since graduating from George Mason University; I entered the hospitality business. Being a cottage owner is something I love. It enables me to improve and beautify properties and provide a nice place for people to enjoy their vacations.

Cathy Bokman purchased this cottage in 2010

Why Cathy Bokman chose Chesapeake Bay - Northern Neck

In 2009 we bought our first vacation rental, Beachcomber I. That house was a partnership with my sister and my husband's brother; it was a total renovation. I found though that people really enjoyed themselves and discovering Colonial Beach and the area. A year later, a childhood friend that I grew up with in Wellesley, Massachusetts called when she found this listing on the internet. This house, which became Beachcomber II didn't need nearly the amount of work as our first project and had the same great location; steps from town and beach...so we jumped in and started the work....hope you enjoy!

What makes this cottage unique

Beachcomber II has a great location, or as guests tell me...it is a gem. I know they enjoy the location steps to town, beaches and a playground just through the back gate. Also it is mostly on one floor, except the kid's loft.

Last Minute Getaway

  • 5 of 5

I contacted Cathy last minute to stay in Colonial Beach for the weekend. She worked with me and made adjustments and arrangements so that my partner and I could enjoy our stay, all while being on a cruise ship! Her dedication to making our trip an easy transition removed a huge burden and allowed us to really enjoy ourselves. It was our first time visiting the little corky town of Colonial Beach. The house was clean with nice size rooms, comfortable beds and linens, enough towels to swim 3x a day, a fully stocked kitchen, and located less than a block from the beach (literally down the street). While there, we went to Denson's (one of Cathy's suggestions) and I literally ate the best crab cake sandwich I'd ever had! The people of Colonial Beach are so nice and inviting. It is definitely one of those towns where everyone waves and says hello. This was a much needed vacation from the hustle and bustle of the DC corporate world. Next time we are renting golf carts! Thank you Cathy for your hospitality.

Owner's Response: We are so glad we could get you in for your getaway! We, too, live in the DC area and know what a treat it is to get-away to this quirky, friendly town along the Potomac! Yes Densons is a favorite, my husband loves the crab cakes...I say they have the best burger I have ever had; not to mention the eclairs...glad you enjoyed. We are only able to accommodate these last minute requests, because we have a great team of housekeepers and a handyman in town that keep the houses guest ready, all the time. Thanks for staying and come see us again!

Perfect location!

  • 5 of 5

The cottage is in a perfect location...we were able to walk to the beach, boardwalk and our favorite restaurant, Densons's. This was a great last minute getaway before the start of school.

Owner's Response: We are so glad that you enjoyed your get-away and we hope you will be part of the many visitors who stay with us year after year! I agree, Denson's is a not to be missed. It is amazing to me the number of great dining options within steps of both Beachcomber I and Beachcomber II. Guests share with us that they enjoy the wide range of dining with-in walking distance, To select from is waterfront at the Riverboat and High Tides, to Thai, to Chinese, to small bistros like the Tides Inn, Densons, and Tattle Tales, and Seafood at Shady Lane. Then, of course, there is the seasonal favorite of Nancy's ice cream! Again, we hope to see you and your family again soon! Cathy

Beachcomber getaway

  • 5 of 5

We were traveling with a varied group: two - 16 year olds. They loved the upstairs bedroom, they named it the "girl cave." They were able to explore independently, the beach is close to the house and seems very safe. My 84 year old father-in-law, enjoyed nice walks on the beach and relaxing in the beautiful cottage. Our two dogs - who appreciated the fenced yard, walks on the boardwalk and exploring the quaint neighborhood. Lastly, my husband and myself two 52 year olds- we enjoyed early morning and evening walks, bike rides (bikes are in the shed).

This cottage is excellently stocked. There is something for everyone to do. Colonial Beach is family friendly. The locals are helpful and welcoming.

We took a day trip to Mt. Vernon, which was enjoyed by all. Also near by is the family home of Robert E. Lee.

Cathy, one of the owners, is quick to respond and happily answered all of our questions.

Great location! Kid friendly!!

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay at Colonial Beach. The home is great for families with kids or a couple who just wants to get away. Very quiet (except for the 8am fire test call one morning). Beach was an easy walk across the street and ice cream place on way back was a bonus!! We drove into DC 3 days and longer drive than we expected with traffic but a nice drive! Kids loved the playground in the "backyard"!! Will definitely recommend this area to anyone wanting to experience DC and the beach!! Cathy was very nice to work!! Thank you!

Great location and nice home

  • 4 of 5

This house has the best location! It is right next door to Seaside Thai-French restaurant where we spent a lot of time eating and listening to live music. Other places to eat are right down the street, as it the beach and boardwalk. We would definitely stay here again.

Owner's Response: We are so glad you enjoyed your stay; I know it was a freezing cold weekend! The location really can't be beat! Just steps away from great restaurants, live entertainment, and beach, but also in the summer many families enjoy the park right out the back gate and ice cream across the street! In the cold of winter it is hard to enjoy the large fenced yard and some of the other treats the house offers; make sure you come back when the dogwood is in bloom! Thanks for staying with us again...hope to see you at this our one of our other Beachcomber Cottages soon! Cathy

We just spent a week at Beachcomber II and could not ask for anything better in renting the cottage. Everything we needed was there and in great condition. Our little dog loved the freedom of the back yard. The owner was great and so easy to work with. There were (5) in our party and we had plenty of room to roam and a quiet corner in the sun room to read. I would highly recommend any of the Beachcomber rental homes. We will return next year.

A vacation to remember! In 2011, we introduced the Beachcomber I, located on Hawthorne Ave. After great acceptance by visitors, we purchased a smaller vacation rental property two blocks away; Beachcomber II on Wilder to great guest reviews in 2012. The Beachcomber II; a 3 bedroom, 2 bath vacation home, steps to the beach, shops and restaurants...please come and enjoy!!!

The beauty of the Beachcomber II is it is perfect for families and couples. The Beachcomber II is offers one floor living with a bonus kids loft. The home features a a master bedroom with private bath, a queen size bedroom, and a twin sized bedroom; on the first floor.

The enjoyment of the Beachcomber isn't limited to the house. It has a fenced yard, great for children and pets. From the eat-in kitchen you can view one of the town's playgrounds; the back gate opens right to the park. There is a tree covered picnic table with gas grill. The location is terrific, steps to restaurants, entertainment, shops and just one block from the beach and bathhouse.

Colonial Beach, Virginia; 60 miles from DC,but a world away... Colonial Beach, Virginia...the Gateway to the Northern Neck of Virginia.... a beach front haven, less than 2 hours from DC, along the Potomac River. Many say, it is place that time has forgotten with it's slow pace, friendly people who wave as they drive past you on their golf carts, wide beaches where the Potomac River is 4 to 6 miles wide, within minutes to historical attractions; George Washington's Birthplace; the Lee Family Home, Stratford Plantation, explore Westmoreland State Park, and find Shark's teeth and more, great boating, fishing, crabbing, bird watching and discover the Chesapeake Wine Trail. The charm of of Colonial Beach is its unhurried pace of a small town and the enjoyment of several great waterfront restaurants, waterfront live bands on weekends during the summer, assorted antique/consignment shops, art galleries, and great crabs.

We have learned from our guests that Colonial Beach is a great launch-off place to explore the history of the region. Our guests have made day trips to DC, Fredericksburg, Manassas, Charlottesville, Williamsburg; all under 2 hours away...what a tremendous history trail. Additionally, two great amusement parks are an easy drive; Kings Dominion (1 Hour) and Busch Gardens Old Country and Water Park (2 Hours).

While Summer is the peak season; Spring and Fall are great seasons to enjoy the Northern Neck. Summer has many events; the Potomac River Festival , Blues Festival 4th of July, and International Jet Ski Races.

Thanks for looking and be prepared to fall in love with Colonial Beach and the Northern Neck!
