Doug Beal, Jr. a 5th generation, lived in Southwest Harbor his whole life. He and his wife, Vicki, owned a Marine Conctruction and Diving Business for 41 years. Perfect Place in Southwest Harbor

  • 5 of 5

The Beals have created a perfect Acadia getaway in Southwest Harbor, ME. The location is on the "quiet side" of the island, but convenient to restaurants, shops, and excellent hiking trails. (Red Sky and Sips are two of our favorite restaurants on the island.) We've stayed in two of the Beal's properties and find them extremely well-maintained, clean, and well-equipped. This property has a small deck with propane grill and an outdoor fire-pit seating area. It was extremely comfortable. One late afternoon when we were sitting on the deck, a doe came very close to the cabin and stayed for about an hour foraging around the deck and the nearby stream.

One note for people who are planning to use the loft as a sleeping area: The stairs to the loft are very steep (almost like a cross between stairs and a ladder.) Keep this in mind when planning your sleeping arrangements, based on the mobility of those who might be using the loft.

I highly recommend this rental property and plan on staying in one of the Beal's properties the next time I'm in Maine.

Cozy, clean, new cottage well-situated to enjoy SW Harbor and Quiet Side of MDI

  • 5 of 5

This is a small, well-constructed, simple, chalet-style cottage set back in the woods about 100 yards from Main Street in downtown Southwest Harbor. The single living area has a seating area with a love seat and two stuffed chairs. The dining area has a table that seats six, and an additional pair of bar stools at the kitchen counter. There is a bedroom on the first floor and a sleeping loft open to the LR below. The cottage is small but it is really well-designed so that three people (couple and grown daughter) stayed very comfortably. The large deck is pretty - there's a distant view of the harbor and a nice table, grill, etc. . Instant hot water worked great, propane gas stove and microwave/convection oven made making simple meals completely do-able.

The location is fantastic for enjoying all that the quiet side of MDI offers and it's a quick drive over to Bar Harbor, Cadillac, Loop Drive, Jordan Pond as well as off-island places. We are long time visitors to the area and we loved this little cottage. We would stay there again.

Lovely little cabin in the woods.

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely love this little gem in Southwest Harbor. Perfectly sized, cozy wood cabin with beautiful surroundings, a view of the harbor, and walking distance to Southwest Harbor. Our boys love the loft level sleeping, campfire area, large deck, and the stream & woods. Tons of great hiking and boating/kayaking/sailing opportunities nearby too. Southwest Harbor offers lots of great restaurants and shopping a short walk away. Vicki is a wonderful host and the cabin is stocked with everything we could ask for. It's the perfect place to de-stress from our regular life.

Wonderful, quiet retreat

  • 4 of 5

Our stay at the cottage was wonderful! We loved the private location, yet we were so close to shopping and restaurants as well. Our 3 kids (age 11) slept comfortably in the loft with the addition of air mattresses. The cottage was the perfect size for us - allowing room to hang out after fun days exploring Acadia - loved the deck and fire pit area. Even though it is located near other houses, we hardly heard or saw anyone. The kids loved exploring the woods around the cottage too! The house was very clean and had everything we needed (except a washer and dryer). When we come back to MDI, I will definitely look to book here again!! Thank you

Simply wonderful!

  • 5 of 5

I cannot imagine a more perfect place to stay while in Acadia. Private and surrounded by woods, yet a five minute walk into town. We are so glad we chose ro stay in Southwest Harbor---the quiet side of the island. The cabin/cottage was perfect for our family of four--all the comforts of home. We explored Acadia by day and stargazed at the cabin at night. The cabin was clean and somfortable and Vicki was a great host. We hope to be back some day.

Peaceful, Relaxing, Comfortable

  • 5 of 5

The Wooded Cottage is very clean, comfortable and well equipped. The deck, grill and fire pit allow for relaxing evenings. It is well placed for visiting all of Mount Desert Island. It is very peaceful and restful - set away from the main road yet close enough to walk to the village. We would not hesitate in recommending the cottage. The only aspect to bear in mind would be the steep steps up to the loft bedroom - our son really enjoyed the loft space but it might be a tricky climb for younger children.
