About Ferd Ho (en) or Genevieve Milord (en, fr, sp)

My name is Geneviève. I grew up and went to school in Quebec city. I moved to Vancouver where I started my career in journalism. I fell in love with the west coast and settled in, but I always wanted to keep some ties in Quebec. I share my passion for my 'culture quebecoise' with my family. I only speak French to my daughters since they were born and I am very proud to have fully bilingual children.

Ferd Ho (en) or Genevieve Milord (en, fr, sp) purchased this condo in 2007

Why Ferd Ho (en) or Genevieve Milord (en, fr, sp) chose Quebec City

We bought our condo in 2007 because we thought we would settle there again but changed our mind. So we decided to keep it for our kids and rent it out. We think it would be great for the girls to have a place to live in the old city if, and when, they wish to attend a french university - and for us to use it occasionally when visiting family.

What makes this condo unique

We totally fell in love with our condo on the first visit. It was also my husband's first visit to Quebec City and he thought the 'old city' with its surrounding stone fortifications and very old buildings was like walking in medieval Europe in the middle of North America - but still have his daily dose of delicious croissant and steaming espresso, two minutes walk from the condo.

It is really convenient to be able to walk to wonderful restaurants, bars, boutiques and public transport.

During the summer, you will feel like you are right in the middle of the on-going season festivities. And in the Winter, the silence is deafening, interrupted only by the stuttering sounds of horses footsteps on ancient cobbled stones. It is also an excellent home base for Mont Sainte-Anne ski resorts and Carnival de Quebec.

1st time family trip to Quebec

  • 5 of 5

The apartment for us was in a great location. Just a short walk around the corner from the busy and happening Rue St. Jean. Across the street from the Canada National Parks site that had an indoor and outdoor exhibit. Even though we were around the corner from the hustle and bustle of Rue St. Jean our apartment was very quiet. We loved being inside the walled part of the city. We walked everywhere from this location. Only used to car to drive to Montmorency Falls and the I'le of Olreans. All three beds were comfy. It was very warm on the second level where the bedrooms are located. They had fans and a protable AC unit which we used pretty much the whole time. The shower pressure in the bathroom was great. Having a washer and dryer was very convenient. The kitchen was adequate. Could use better knives for cutting/chopping food but that is not a big thing. Having a second bathroom is nice too. The only other thing to note is comfy seating is limited--loveseat and recliner chair. We had a couple of questions/issues that came up in the first two days and Diane the manager was very quick to answer and respond. The parking is in back of the building. For 1 week of parking it was $150 Canadian. The parking attentdant on the weekend did not speak English but we were able figure it out. A small grocery store was just a short walk outside of the walled city up Rue St. Jean. We got the basic necessities for breakfast. And an ATM machine was at the end of Rue St. Jean inside the walled part. For croissants we really liked Paillard's on Rue St. Jean. Dont' miss the street performes in the summer. Lots of fun to watch. We did the river cruise up to the falls. It was a nice cruise with a great tour guide but a little pricey for what you saw. Overall we would stay here again.

Perfect location!! Wonderful owners!!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the condo in the middle of July during the Quebec City music festival. The condo was situated perfectly-within walking distance of everything. Ferd was wonderful to work with-he made the process so easy! The condo was beautiful and fully furnished, making it and excellent "home base" for our family of 5! From check in to check out, Ferd and his caretaker were very accomadating. The condo was immacualate and comfortable! We explored the whole city on foot! We had a wonderful stay and highly recommend this condo to anyone looking to stay in Quebec City!!

Wonderful get-away in Quebec

  • 5 of 5

We took our 4 children on a tour of Canada, staying a 4 places in Ontario, Quebec, and New Brunswick. This condo in Quebec was our favorite. The location was perfect. We parked our car in the public parking lot in back, and walked everywhere. The accommodations were great: nice bedrooms with ample closet space and a huge bathroom. We did laundry and ate several meals in the condo. We honestly didn't want to leave. We arrived 2 hours earlier than anticipated (5pm instead of 7pm) and used a public pay phone to reach the caretaker. Her husband met us in 5 minutes and let us into the condo. The condo was quiet and located very close to Rue St. Jean, where there are many good restaurants. We loved the bakery. I highly recommend staying here.

A stunningly finished condo with all the character you could desire and modern conveniences!

  • 5 of 5

My friend and I stayed here just last week and we are so glad we did! While some bookings look better online than in reality, this place did not disappoint in the least!

I felt some trepidation as we entered the historic building that is home to this condo...the doors are heavy and the vestibule tiny. The stairwell was narrow and stairs steep. This would not be a good choice for those with mobility issues.

The condo itself is simply gorgeous. It was freshly painted in a soft gray, which perfectly complemented the lovely laminate floors and original brick wall in the living area. The kitchen is also modern and was equipped with everything you could desire. Instructions for the oven would help, mind you. We did manage to bake a pizza, but I honestly don't know how! Two of the three bedrooms have lovely windows...my bed was incredibly comfortable. The linens and towels were of the best quality. A skylight illuminated the upstairs bathroom and hallway early in the morning. I really appreciated the artwork displayed throughout the condo. I really felt like I was in a high end hotel or my own home. The owners did not skimp on outfitting this lovely space!

The condo is located just inside St. John's gate in the old city, which makes it a most convenient location for all the wonderful shopping, dining and sight-seeing opportunities in Old Quebec City, as well as being in close proximity to a small grocery store and SAQ (liquor store) and Farmer's Market. I can't wait to visit again and definitely hope to stay here!

Very thoughtful and well appointed apartment

  • 5 of 5

This was a perfect place for our stay. Location is excellent - right around the corner from all the shops/restaurants etc. There is one flight of stairs to take up. The immediate area is quiet and street noise was not an issue at all.

The apartment itself was beautifully decorated and spotlessly clean. High quality linens and towels. Beds very comfortable. Kitchen was well stocked with utensils and appliances and everything worked well. There were a few staples and spices available. We cooked many meals after stopping first at the market that is a short walk away!

Check in was easy and Diane answered promptly when called.

We would stay again for certain!!

Clean, nicely decorated, well appointed and perfectly situated in Virus Quebec.

  • 5 of 5

This condo is perfect for families or a group of friends. With two floors and two bathrooms it gives the feeling of being at home instead of a hotel. The location was quiet but only minutes away from anywhere you would want to see in Quebec. The kitchen had everything you would need to make a snack or a full meal. The bathrooms were spotless. Arrival and departure was seamless. This condo is the perfect place to land after a day of walking around this beautiful city.
