Mainly because the area has so much to offer that we hope guests want to visit more than once. But also because we offer so much more than a regular 'self catering' rental; "home from home" luxury, with lots of extras & treats. More detail on our own website

Our FREE COCKTAIL BAR of branded spirits and local liqueurs is also kept stocked during your stay.

Our 5 star CONCIERGE SERVICE, provided by local boutique hoteliers, helps with everything from booking the best restaurants, to fixing a cookery class, or even a massage onsite at Club Montecchio! More detail on our own website

ALL ENERGY COSTS are included - very expensive in Italy! ; all linens & towels are included(inc pool) with cleaning and change of linens every 3-4 days, and at end of stay; we provide a continuous supply of Fragonard bathroom toiletries and daily consumables (everything from dishwasher tablets to Club Montecchio's own Olive Oil!).

CLUB MONTECCHIO( is located centrally in Tuscany, within easy reach of the main 'must see' destinations of Siena(20mins drive), Florence, San Gimignano, Arezzo, Cortona, Montepulciano and Montalcino(all around an hour). Further afield, but still easily accessed by autotstrada/highway are Pisa, Perugia, Orvieto, Bologna and even Rome.

What's more the Chianti Way(Chiantigiana) runs right past the Villa Arceno estate's front door, leading up into the Chianti, and all it's famous wineries(Felsina, San Felice, Brolio, Capannelle, Badia e Coltibuono, Castello di Ama etc), as well as picturesque towns such as Gaiole, Radda, Panzano, Greve etc.

But there is no need to roam afar, as Club Montecchio is surrounded by many beautiful and historic hillside villages, all worth visiting, and usually with bars and good restaurants.

About James Benfield

Montecchio is home in Tuscany to James and Penny Benfield, where we spend half of the year, and which we enjoy sharing with guests. To get a feel for this, do call James on his cell phone (UK code +44) 7879476002.

Penny & James had the great good fortune to 'fall over' the best spot on the highest point of the beautiful Villa Arceno wine estate, when contemplating the right place for a vacation home. After 30 years of living in Central London, and spoilt by a corporate lifestyle with lots of pampered travel, we needed something exceptional, in a beautiful setting, away from the developed centres of tourism.

If you want to know more, do call James on his cell phone (UK code +44) 7879476002.

James Benfield purchased this villa in 1998

Why James Benfield chose Siena Area

Because it's a 'little piece of paradise' :

- off the tourist track,

- in a stunning location on a hilltop, with breathtaking 360 degree views of the Chianti hills,

- in the countryside, but surrounded by picturesque villages, and just 20 minutes from the Renaissance gem of Siena,

- close to major roads, giving fast and easy access to Florence, San Gimignano, Cortona, Perugia, Orvieto, and many more 'must see' places,

- and most important for self confessed 'foodies', the area offers a wealth of good restaurants & quality wineries. There is a lot more detail on our own website

What makes this villa unique

"HOME FROM HOME" with 5 star standards of comfort and luxury; Countryhouse style & living with hospitality to match.

Because we controlled the renovation of the large Tuscan farmhouse from the very beginning, we were able to develop the property with the emphasis on privacy. As a result, Montecchio is made up of PROPER HOUSES, and NOT APARTMENTS, as would be the norm in Italy. Villa L'Oliveto has it's own outlook, private garden, and segregated parking pergola.

Villa L'Oliveto was designed and furnished in the same style as our own place at Montecchio; it was filled with pieces of art & furniture from our own collection. The kitchen was generously equipped to professional standards.

The result, we think, is a comfortable Vacation Villa, that feels like 'Home from Home', from the moment that you walk through the front door.

All this plus the owners' in-depth knowledge of the area, and it's amenities, with the 'inside track' on everything from which local retaurants are currently "hot", to where to park safely & legally in Florence|!

First Class!

  • 5 of 5

Club Monteccio is simply idyllic; we enjoy it so much that we have visited several years in a row.

It offers beautiful 360 degree views of the Tuscan rolling hills, vineyards and olive groves. The villa with its charming traditional architecture, stunning pool and exceptional facilities (including reliable and fast wifi so my daughter could still get her fix of Netflix!) was perfect for our family's break.

The nearby village of Villa a Sesta is gastronomic heaven where you can enjoy Michelin rated food at La Bottega del 30 or chianti classico and bistecca alla fiorentina at Villa di Sotto - it doesn't get much better!

Cannot get enough of this magical holiday location

  • 5 of 5

This is a truly stunning, wonderful holiday destination made perfect by the attention to detail that is provided throughout your stay. The house (the term does it insufficient justice) wine is on tap, topped up daily and is some of the best wine you will have ever tasted. After all what else would you to go to Tuscany for? Sitting looking out over the breathtaking Tuscan hills with a house glass of wine in hand is what brings us back year after year.

We have been as a couple, with one child and now two and everything you could think of is provided including dishwasher with tablets, nepresso coffee machine with pods and washing facilities with powder provided so no matter whether you want a peaceful couple's holiday or a family one to remember it is always more than relaxing!

We cannot recommend Montecchio enough.

Still keeps impressing!

  • 5 of 5

Wow, I'm still impressed every time we come back here. I think this time was our seventh stay here and we can't get enough of this relaxing, extremely well appointed and well located villa. The views are great! I don't often leave reviews but this place is somewhere I could head every year and is so noteworthy.

As usual the holiday kicks off to a brilliant start courtesy of the welcome hamper which for us was enough food to see us through at least a couple of days, not to mention the wine and beer which went down a treat. The cured meats and cheese were a really great example of what's available in Tuscany, delicious! It's a well thought out hamper and shows dedication from the owners that they have come up with this. Top marks.

The villa itself is a beautiful traditional Tuscan affair, is fitted out with everything you need and better appointed than any holiday home we've been to; to mention a few highlights were Emma Bridgewater crockery, dishwasher, nespresso machine with pods refreshed by the housekeeper when low (thank you!), continuous supply of great house wine (local wine which goes down very well), high speed wifi. We like to cook and normally find that holiday homes are poorly equipped in terms of the kitchen and what's supplied, but we find here that there's everything we need for those nights where we cook in. Oh and the villas have been kitted out very tastefully in terms of furniture etc.

Food wise the villa is located in close proximity to a great number of really fantastic restaurants (the owners have put a good list in the guide within the villa). This is Italian food at its finest, and at Villa a Sesta (a short drive away) there is even a restaurant who's chef has a Michelin star!! Also for those inclined there's wine tasting very close by at the vineyard you drive through to get to the villa (Tenuta di Arceno from memory), and a further place not too far away (Capanelle).

The pool is a great highlight for us and keeps endless smiles on the kids faces. Also the local settlement has a kids playground (perfect when heading to buy supplies at supermarket) and also there's a really sweet one at Villa a Sesta which is where some of the local fab restaurants are.

All in all this is very well located, appointed, beautiful, and the owners appear to have thought of the guest at each stage meaning the whole affair from booking to leaving makes you able to relax and enjoy the point of being there: the holiday. Massive thumbs up.

Amazing house in an amazing location!

  • 5 of 5

Amazing house in an amazing location!

We had previously visited Montecchio in July but this year decided to go in early May and we couldn’t believe the amount of wildlife we saw; hares, deer, pheasant, a toad and even a wild boar.

This truly is a home from home with everything you could possibly need for a relaxing break or a memorable family holiday.

Penny and James are fantastic hosts providing restaurant recommendations, helping arrange wine tours and even advising on the best places to park in Florence and Siena - not forgetting the limitless house wine.

Thank you again, we will be back!

Outstanding as always

  • 5 of 5

This was not my first time at Club Montecchio and it certainly won't be my last. Penny and James have continuously improved the property in the 12(?)years I've been visiting and every time I visit there is a new unexpected pleasant surprise. This year was no different with their usual welcome hamper offering even more local delights and the constantly replenished complimentary house wines (seems unfair to refer to it as "house wine" it's far too good for that).

One thing I'm glad hasn't changed is Cristina, their housekeeper. She does a fantastic job of keeping everything spotlessly clean and tidy. Thanks Cristina!

To anyone who's read this far, Club Montecchio is a real gem, I would without any doubt recommend it to anyone who is looking for a truly magical holiday. But please wait until I've booked my next visit, I don't want it to be sold out!

Owner's Response: We are so fortunate that so many of our lovely guests come back - nearly 50% are either returnees, or first hand referrals. That is why we decided to call ourselves a "club" to encourage guests that they "belong", and that they will feel immediately "at home" with us. Thank you Oliver - we look foreardto your next visit!

The extras make the difference!

  • 5 of 5

This was my fourth visit to Club Montecchio, and the villa was exceptional as always. Location is excellent - both for the stunning views, and proximity to Villa a Sesta, a local hamlet with several superb restaurants. I can't recommend the truffle pasta at Osteria Alla Villa enough!

As per my headline, the added extras do make the difference - providing a concierge service as part of your package enables you to make the most of your trip.

I look forward to returning for a fifth time!

Owner's Response: We love when guests return, especially more than once; it shows they realise just how much is on pffer in this little corner of Tuscany; above all beauty in the surroundings, but also culture, history, outstanding food in the huge number of excellent restaurants, and obviously wine. Then there are the events and activities that our 5 star Concierge can arrange for guests, everything from balloon rides to ticketsfor the Palio. Thank you Becky for the review; hurry back!
