The Cottage des Hortensias is self-catering accommodation located the grounds of a calm, quiet French chateau B&B. What was once the concierge’s house has been transformed into a spacious 3-bedroom, 2-bath that sleeps seven people. Spacious (130 sq. m. or 1400 sq. ft.) and bright, it features a private courtyard on the front side of the cottage and a small hedge-lined yard in the back.
With over 20 acres of gardens and woods at your disposal, it's a countryside oasis that's within easy striking distance of some of France's best-loved sites.
It's ideal for families who want to slow down and spend a few days visiting Versailles, Chartres, Fontainbleau, Paris and even the eastern end of the Loire Valley. We can also tell you about many lesser known places to see, local markets, etc.
Versailles is 30 minutes away by car, while Chartres is just 20 minutes away.

Why Virginie and Richard Thompson chose Écrosnes
The cottage is situated on a large private estate that has been in the family for several generations. On the property sits a chateau, which we have been running as a B&B for nearly 20 years, and another cottage. One of the cottages was the old gamekeepers house. The other was the concierge's house. One was restored in 2007 and the other in 2011. We rent the cottage and run the B&B as a way of maintaining the property and keeping it in the family.

Great location. Lovely house
This was a very comfortable house - super beds and showers - that was a pleasure to stay in. Very quiet but not too far by car from good supermarkets and a baker. And very easy to access Chartres and so many French castles and delightful old villages. We particularly loved Maintenon, so welcoming after the bustle of Versailles.
Poor weather meant we couldn't eat outside or make much use of the garden furniture and loungers but the courtyard looked as if it would be good in the summer with an umbrella over the table and not too far to carry food etc. The kitchen worked splendidly.
It was lovely too to walk round the park, especially before breakfast or in the late afternoons. We saw hares and red squirrels, as well of course as the family's hens.
Virginie and Richard were very welcoming and responded quickly to our queries before arrival. All in all a lovely break.
Spacious, clean cottage in beautiful French countryside
We had a super 11 night stay here with our teenage children. The cottage was well equipped, spacious with a pretty courtyard garden and acres of woods to explore. The location was good. We enjoyed two day trips to Paris from a nearby station using the mobilis rail travel ticket which also allowed us to use the metro. We visited Versailles and Chateau de Maintenon which were beautiful. We also enjoyed visiting the cathedral, illuminations and Odyssey swimming complex in Chartres.
A perfect country cottage
The cottage was very comfortable and had everything we could want - plenty of space (including private garden space), a fully equipped kitchen and a very quiet environment not to mention being close to plenty of places to visit. Richard and Virginie were very welcoming and helpful and we would certainly recommend the cottage to our friends.
Charming little village, beautiful grounds and nice lodgings. Would definitely recommend. We hope to come back.
Very warm welcome on a frosty day.
The environs of Paris were freezing when we arrived to this cosy warm cottage across the drive from the main chateaux. The furnishings and housekeeping were exemplary as were the little touches of milk, tea and brioche. It was, frankly, better than we either expected or hoped and our stay was memorable. Although the locality was very rural and quiet the bustle of Paris was an easy train ride away and we were in the Orsay within an hour of leaving the cottage. There is a huge hypermarket close by but not too many restaurants. All in all a very happy experience and we would be delighted to return.
Authentic and homely
We felt very welcome. There was bread, some milk and juice in the fridge, coffee and tea. The house is very complete with small dishwasher, a washing machine and dryer. The beds were made, there were towels, shampoo and whatever you could think of. The house is very private and you have lots of outside space to yourself. Very rural but within 10 to 15 minutes you have supermarkets.
Very nice owners. Definitely something to go back to!
The cottage is situated about 1 hour southwest of Paris, between Versailles (home of the famous chateau) and Chartres (home of the famous cathedral). It is an idea base for trips into Paris, Versailles, Chartres, Fontainbleau and Giverny. It is located in a quiet country village. You will need a car if you plan on staying here.
Paris is a 45 minute train ride from our local station in Epernon.
The eastern end of the Loire Valley is an easy day trip.
