Why Property Owner chose Martina Franca
I viewed many properties in the area however when I saw Trullo Susanna I immediately knew I would love to purchase it. This property ticked all the boxes for me, off the main country road, other houses close enough so you do not feel isolated however you still have privacy as the garden and pool are not overlooked. The town of Martina Franca is simply beautiful with the baroque architecture, cafes, Italian culture and endless festivals in the summer months. In the trullo I love all the exposed stonework and how fresh it feels in the summer months. I have many happy memories of holidays at Trullo Susanna with friends and family and now it is a rental property that enjoyment can be passed onto many more people, please read the reviews and you can see what people thoughts are.

What a wonderful week! The magic all began when the gates to Trullo Susanna slid open and we glided in to our very own slice of Puglia. Everything was perfect: the pool, the interior of the trullo, the setting, the peace and tranquillity - all together conspiring to lock us into what became a most memorable holiday. So many wonderful places to visit: Polignano a Mare, Alberobella, Martina Franca, Ostuni, Locorotondo, Matera and many more, all within driving distance and each with a charm of its own, then returning to our own bit of heaven for a dip in the pool and an evening of beautiful Puglian food. Susan is the perfect hostess having created this haven and providing a most generous welcome pack and imparting her vast knowledge of the area. Her love of the region is tangible and contagious. Reading previous reviews it seems all the superlatives have been used up so we have borrowed a South African word to sum up Trullo Susanna: buitenverwachting (beyond expectations). It trulli was
Amazing words from amazing people!
Thank you and I do hope we meet again.
Really enjoyable stay in a beautiful Trullo
Our stay at Trullo Suzzana was at a lovely time of year, the weather in April was excellent and the property was in a fantastic location for exploring the many interesting towns that were easily accessible.
The heated pool was a real bonus when we returned from sightseeing and it was so nice to sit on the patio in the evening, eat from the barbecue and watch the sun go down.
The property was very spacious and well presented and our host Susan was very attentive answering all our questions and suggesting place to see and eat of which there are many close by. The wi fi worked really well inside and outside the property and we had everything we needed for a great break in Puglia
We visited the coast a number of times and ate at fantastic fish restuarants as well as visiting the usual tourist places, Martina Franca (a real gothic gem) Alberobello and Locorotondo.
And of course, the food and wine - fresh food and excellent value, try the primitivo red wine.
We want to return to Trullo Suzzana!
Delightful and roomy
We’ve just returned from our seventh time at Trulli Susana and loved it.
If you’ve come this far, you’ll already know somethings about Puglia. Great food, with lots of regional variety especially if you’re used to northern or Roman cuisines. Charming towns and villages, each with their own history and magic. Miles of unspoiled and uncrowded beaches. Historical sites such as the end of the Appian Way, a Templar castle, Matera (Google it!), Lecce and of course, the UNESCO site of Alborebello. All these are easy one or half day trips from the villa.
The house is an extremely well renovated original trulli. It’s quiet, comfortable and immaculately clean. It has its own private garden and pool and there are plenty of great walks right from the front door. The main bedroom is right under a trulli dome so you really feel the experience. Wifi works great and Susi is always very responsive if you need help, anything fixed or just to guide you around this magical part of Puglia.
7 visits to Trullo Susanna, this must be a record for any property in the area! Always lovely to see you and delighted you are coming back in 2018. Susan x
We had a wonderful time at Trullo Susanna
A really nice Trullo (inside & outside), peaceful, very clean and a perfect service. Susan is the best hostess and owner we ever had - she even brought us brioches & cornettis for breakfast. Thank you very much for everything!
Great trullo in wonderful location
The Trullo was beautiful both inside & out. It was well equipped with everything you needed. Susan welcomed us & was helpful throughout our stay. It was lovely to receive the welcome pack of goodies. We visited some wonderful places & we loved Martina Franca. Only improvement would be a heated pool!
Thank you for your kind words and it was lovely having you staying at Trullo Susanna.
You will be very happy to hear the pool is now HEATED :-) so you can enjoy this the next time you return.
Look forward to seeing you again in Puglia.
Just wish we could have stayed longer!
Wonderful two-week holiday! The house and pool are lovely and Susan could not be more welcoming and informative. All of her recommendations were spot on! Susan takes a lot of pride in the property and providing guests with great service and it shows. Comfy beds, kitchen with all of the necessary equipment, great brick barbecue and lovely edible provisions to greet you on day one. Of course, the pool is a highlight as well. And, it is in easy drive of many wonderful cities.
Make sure you definitely go into the centre of Martina Franca and do not judge the city by the bits you see when you first drive to the trullo. "Centro" is wonderful and worth seeing both in the day time and evening. We highly recommend both Pizzeria Ricci (great pizza and fun to sit in the middle of the square and watch the Martina France night life) and Terra Terra - a couple of minutes walk from the main square with wonderful cocktails and food.
If you are a runner or enjoy bike riding, turn left when you come of out of the property drive and you have all kinds of options. While the country roads are narrow, there is not much traffic and drivers were quite respectful of runners and cyclists. The Bosco delle Pianelle Nature reserve is also very nice and only a few minutes drive away.
The Ionian Sea beaches are fabulous. We set the satnav to "Lido Silvana" and headed east from there - miles of lovely beaches from which to choose.
If you go to the Adriatic driving south on the coast and are anywhere around Torre Canne e Savelletri, definitely eat at Alba Chiara. The grilled mixed seafood and the stuffed pasta were wonderful as were the mussels.
In terms of cities, Cisternino, Locorotondo, Ostuni, Alberobello and so many more! Lecce is definitely worth the drive! We ate some lunchtime Italian "tapas" at Mama Elvira in Lecce and would definitely eat there again.
So, it case it was not already obvious, we loved the house and the area - both near and further afield. You too should go to Puglia and stay at Trullo Suzannah!
Exploring this beautiful area:
There is so much to do and see in this unspoilt part of Italy.
The trullo is just 3km from the beautiful, chic, baroque town of Martina Franca.
In the summer months the town is full of activity.
The city is known as the 'citta del festival', the city of festivals.
The most famous being the musical festival, which attracts people from worldwide in the last 2 weeks of July.
Martina Franca has many excellent restaurants, cafes and for the keen shopper hours can be lost weaving your way through the many designer boutiques.
Surrounded by pretty hilltop town with enchanting historic centres and beautiful piazzas I would recommend you visit: Cisternino, Locorotondo, Ostuni (The White City), Monopoli, Pulignano al mare, Conversano.
Matera, Lecce and Gallipoli are a little further away but undoubtedly worth the drive.
Miles of clean, white, award winning, sandy beaches can be found on the Ionian coastline, just 30 minutes from the trullo.
Dining out here is a pleasure. Fresh seafood, locally grown fruit and vegetables and tender meat dishes all at a very reasonable price.
Local Puglian wine is now known all over the world, you can have the pleasure of sampling this at local prices.
If you wish to visit the wine museum in Alberobello and sample the wines I can organise this for.
You could also spend a morning seeing the famous olive oil of Puglian being made or the wide range of local cheeses.
