Overview

About the property

Uninterrupted views, stylish and modern, large sunny dining terrace & BBQ

'.....they looked down on the Staubach Falls and the Lauterbrunnen Valley in all its glory' - John le Carré, (Our Kind of Traitor)

A stylish apartment with stunning views of the spectacular Lauterbrunnen Valley that are genuinely unsurpassed. Located next to open pasture, on the outside edge of a small modern chalet development, wide french doors open out onto a large sunny terrace, great for outside dining and barbecuing, but even better for just sitting and gazing at one of the world’s most dramatic valleys. The Staubach Falls are over to one side and alpine meadows straight ahead, the views of which are unobstructed by any other buildings. In winter a cross country ski trail skirts through the grounds. Unsurprisingly, the area beyond is a UNESCO world heritage site. (As for the inside of the property, see 'More Details' below).

Inside is a large lounge and dining area, with comfortable oak and leather furniture and cosy underfloor heating. A luxury well equipped kitchen includes granite surfaces, dishwasher and microwave. Bathroom and bedrooms are to an equally high standard. A large double bedroom, with solid oak furniture, has ample room for a cot, if needed. The second bedroom, with full size bunk beds and a single bed provides flexibility for families or groups of friends. The level access throughout the property is often appreciated by both older people and those with young children.

Other features include free and unlimited WiFi internet, international cable TV, DVD, iPod dock, washing machine and drier, ski room and private garage. The price also includes all Tourist taxes, end of stay cleaning, all linen, heating and taxed rubbish/garbage collection, (ie there are no extra costs).

The property is situated well away from the traffic on the main road, but still only two minutes from the Post Bus which runs regularly along the valley (free Ski Bus in winter).

A well stocked local store is only a short distance across the river, but a full range of shops can be found in the village, ten minutes walk away.

As well as the trains to Interlaken, cable cars link to the international ski areas of Murren and Wengen, including the famous Eiger Northface cog railway to the Jungfraujoch. Further afield the excellent train and Post Bus service makes a car unnecessary.

Tennis courts are 200m back towards the village, used for ice skating in winter. (More information on skiing and summer activities can be found below). The Trummelbach Falls are an easy 20 minute walk, one of 72 waterfalls which tumble into the Lauterbrunnen Valley. In summary, the location is truly glorious.

(Our reviews will tell you a lot more, all of which have been written voluntarily by guests. However, if there is anything else that you need to know, please contact me. During your stay our local manager, who has lived nearby in the valley for over 25 years, is also available to deal with any problems.)

Finally, in order to provide you with financial security, we encourage all payments to be made through the secure HomeAway Payment system, rather than directly to ourselves - see 'Pay with Confidence' or 'Travel with Confidence', in the column to the right.

About Sue Creamer

I am very fortunate to have been able to retire early, along with my husband. Having been a college vice-principle, I was always able to find time to do a bit more traveling than most - now we do a lot, including visits to Lauterbrunnen for both winter skiing and summer walking. Having three grown up children (and a grandson), who equally enjoy being there with us, is an added bonus.

Sue Creamer purchased this apartment in 2007

Why Sue Creamer chose Eiger, Mönch & Jungfrau

When we saw the chalet being built we didn't see the building, we just saw the view! The other chalets are equally great, but this is special. It's a family retreat which we hope will be appreciated by our children and grandchildren for many years to come.

What makes this apartment unique

Stepping out onto the terrace into the heart of the valley with nothing to spoil the view.

magical

  • 5 of 5

I can't say enough about how much we enjoyed our one week stay in this beautiful place. Our family (2 sons ages 14,12) absolutely loved every moment spent in Sue's lovely home, in one of the most gorgeous spots on the planet.

The views from the patio were stunning. I enjoyed my breakfast every morning, enjoying both the mountains and the sheep in the meadow. There is a public footpath along the property, and the occasional tour bus that drives by as well, but you soon forget that and are completely immersed in all the natural beauty surrounding you.

There was plenty to fill our days in the area. We enjoyed many day trips to the surrounding mountains, waterfalls and lovely alpine villages. We could have easily filled another week with activities nearby!

The local campground was convenient, as they have a store and restaurant. The village coop was good, but a 20 minute walk so the campground store ( less than 5 mins walk) fit the bill! It is expensive to eat out in Switzerland, so we made good use of the BBQ!!

Sue was wonderful to deal with, and I am so grateful we were able to stay in this magical place for a week.

Stunning Location in the Lauterbrunnen Valley

  • 5 of 5

Excellent modern ground floor Chalet. Everything well presented and perfect for a family. Two bedrooms, plus sofa bed giving plenty of options. Outdoor area is as the picture, looking straight down the valley, to the mountains and waterfalls. Short walk into Lauterbrunnen, very handy campsite shop and restaurant close by. Can't recommend enough

Idyllic apartment with fantastic views

  • 5 of 5

Sue's apartment was the perfect place for our holiday with our young family. When we arrived we couldn't believe that the apartment and views were exactly as in the photos. We had everything we needed to make our stay easy, and found the walk to town on the river to be a great part of our day. We recommend Lauterbrunnen as a great landing place for trips to the neighbouring towns, as it has such a fantastic view and easy connections.

The property was well maintained and very clean.

  • 5 of 5

From the moment we drove to this property - we loved it. The view from the apartment was wonderful and the view to the Falls right outside changed daily with every kind of weather. We experienced snow a couple of days, rain and sunny weather - but it didn't seem to matter because there was so much to experience in the area. The lifts up the mountain to experience the Schilthorn for breakfast. or day trips to Murren and Wengen were more satisfying than what the tourist books promised. Ballenberg museum was great on a semi-rainy day.

Kathy - our contact person for the house was very helpful with ideas and even brought a bag of English novels for the rainy days. She was always there for any questions.

The grocery store in Lauterbrunnen and at the Jungfrau camp had all the staples and then some for all of the items we needed. The hiking around Lauterbrunnen was fantastic - and seeing all of the small farms with cows, sheep and goats on our walks was great.

We would rent this apartment again in a flash.

Wonderful stay

  • 5 of 5

We arrived at the Villa on a lovely sunny day to find a breathtaking view from the front balcony, the unit is in impeccable condition with everything you need for self catering, it is easy to catch the bus from the train station, it is only a 10 minute walk along a lovely river path to town, to shop or catch the trains or cable cars to the other villages around Lauterbrunnen, we had such a wonderful 5 days there, it has to be seen to be believed, Sue is a wonderful host, very helpful and always replied promptly to any of my Enquires.

The village provides a range of shops and restaurants, a ten minute stroll away along the river. A well stocked local store offers most things 7 days a week, including fresh bread. Other local facilities include nearby tennis courts and cycle hire. Outdoor swimming pool, paragliding, rock climbing, white water rafting and mountain biking are all local, with excellent golf at Interlaken. Visits to historic towns and lakes like Bern, Thun and Lucerne are all convenient, as are many famous mountain passes. But the main reason for coming to the Lauterbrunnen Valley is the scenery, 72 waterfalls, spectacular mountain railways, diverse wildlife, birdwatching, glacial valleys, the Eiger, the Jungfrau and UNESCO World Natural Heritage designation. The area is however very accessible by Eurorail, motorway and train to 3 international airports; Geneva, Basel and Zurich. (For more on the immediate area google Eurocamp Lauterbrunnen Camping-Jungfrau

Ski and Winter Activities : The skiing is rivalled only by the scenery, probably the most spectacular in Europe. Lauterbrunnen is also the only place in the Jungfrau ski region with equally easy access to both Wengen and Murren, both car free villages sitting on the cliff tops on opposite sides of the valley. Murren, the birthplace of downhill skiing, has an international reputation as an elegant, true alpine village. It can be reached by either of two efficient cable cars rising up from the Lauterbrunnen Valley floor. Wengen is even more famous, being the home of the Lauberhorn, the longest downhill World Cup race, run annually in January. The whole area has great skiing for all levels, with 230km of pistes, rising to nearly 3000m, and 50km of sledging. It also offers the added excitement of skiing below the North face of the Eiger and from the revolving restaurant at the top of the Schilthorn, made famous as the location for the James Bond film 'On Her Majesty's Secret Service'.

Winter Holidays for non-skiers: Whilst famous for it's skiing, the Lauterbrunnen Valley is equally ideal for other winter activities, including just absorbing the fantastic scenery. Access to mountain restaurants couldn't be easier due to the network of mountain cog-railways and cable cars. For the more energetic extensive trails are maintained for snow-shoe trekking and there are over 50 kms of toboggan runs. There is also a local heli-skiing pad, paragliding, ice skating, ice climbing and ice go-karting. In addition Lauterbrunnen is the starting point for one of the world's most dramatic train rides by rack and pinion railway, through the snow fields of Kleine Scheidegg and the Eiger northface to emerge at Europe's highest railway station at Jungfraujoch, providing direct access onto Europes longest glacier, the Aletschglacier. For more down to earth activities local trains run into the heart of great shopping at Grindelwald and Interlaken and a little further afield to Thun and Bern, Switzerland's capital city.

Spring and Summer Activities: Many of Lauterbrunnen's winter attractions are equally attractive in Spring and Summer, not least the mountain restaurants and the ride up past the Eiger to Jungfraujoch and the Aletschglacier (see Winter Holidays above). However the melting snow also reveals swathes of magnificent alpine flowers and a vast range of hiking trails. Wild ibex, marmots and chamois can be found in the more remote uplands, whilst golden eagles, wall creeper, nutcracker and red kites are amongst the rarer birds frequently seen. Cycle routes vary from gentle routes along the valley bottom to tough tracks over mountain passes. For more sedate pastimes traditional Swiss culture is regularly on show, from yodelling to folk dancing, alpine horns and Swiss bands. Local hero William Tell is also celebrated throughout the summer at the open air theatre in Interlaken, where there is also an excellent golf course. In addition a number of beaches and lidos can be found dotted around the huge adjoining lakes, as well an open-air pool back in the village.

Wheelchair Access: The apartment is suitable for people who may be less physically able or for those with young children, with level access throughout and a large flat terrace. Wheelchair users will find that doors are wide and the hallways , bathroom and corridors are roomy. Although there is a small step at the entrance to the building(5cms), the approach is level and there are suitable footpaths throughout the valley, including back to the village. The cable cars, trains and buses are generally equally user friendly.
