Just a wonderful the second time
We visited Puerto Morelos five years ago and just had to come back. Dominque’s house was perfect for our group—2 teen boys and 2 adult couples. Everybody had their own room, A/C (only needed at night), and a bathroom (the teens shared; the couples had their own). The wifi worked great (very important for the teens). The yard and the pool (and outside dining table) were perfect—quiet, plenty of shade, hummingbirds, and a great place to read a book. The beach, just across the road, was quiet and peaceful. In the afternoons we took the beach chairs and wine and watched the sun go down and the stars come up. Like most of the vacation homes we have rented, we had a few initial issues (hot water heater didn’t work—burners on the stove were clogged) but Philip responded promptly to the first and my husband took care of the second. Philip asnwered our questions and recommended various folks who could provide transportation to Tulum and Akumal. Everything else was easily planned by visiting town (which we had learned from our previous trip). There was no laundry so we did bring extra towels (also learned from previous trips). We dropped off our laundry in town one day which was easy and cheap. We did not request any maid service. The gardener came a few times and cleaned the pool (although we never saw him). The kitchen had enough pots, pans, and plates to work with. Working appliances were random but the coffee pot worked so we got by toasting bread on the stove. The only real drawback was not having an outdoor grill.
The house is located about 1.5 kilometers from town which made for about a 25 minute walk. Cabs were fairly easy to find (between 50-200 pesos—be sure to negotiate the price up front—you can get a cab at the nearest resort—Desire--but the fares are much higher). We rented bikes which was the best! The roads are flat and easy and even the patch of road through the jungle is lit up at night making it easy, fast, safe, and fun to ride back from town after a night of tacos and festivities. It was also a lovely walk to town via the beach. Everything we needed was found at the market in Colonia. Our favorite restaurants were still there—Al Chimchurri (Uruguayan parrilla), El Merkadito (ceviche and margaritas), and Los Gauchos .(the best pollo empanadas and a wonderful flamenco show).
The trip was exactly what we wanted--rest, food, and fun--and a bit of adventure. We would highly recommend this property and PM!
Many thanks for your lovely review, and for the time you spent to write it!
It's very nice of you to give as many recommandations and your
I'm agree with you about the outdoor grill, but there was one,a couple years ago;this barbecue was placed against the wall, near the pool;but unfortunatly, the wall became dark above it,because of the smoke:i need to find another one, with wheels:it will be more practical and less messy! Thank you for reminding me!
i would be happy you come back at home and will not fail to make you a very special price for next time.
Take care of yourself!
Have a nice day
Great House and Location
My family stayed at Dominique’s house over Christmas/New Year of 2016/2017. The house is located close to Puerto Morelos, 20 minutes south of the airport. Puerto Morelos is a small town with lots of restaurants and gift shops and is safe and friendly. The house is tucked away on a short street with only 4 houses. The supermarket is 1 ½ miles away and carries everything you will need including wine, beer and liquor. You will most likely want to rent a car which can be parked in front of or inside the gate to the house.
We were very happy with our stay. The house is beautiful and large. The kitchen is comfortable although it could use some nicer cookware. Refrigerator works well, and the gas stove is very acceptable. We were provided with 2 humongous jugs of drinking water. The internet was working well most of our 11 day stay. The house has 4 bedrooms with 3 of them are on the 2nd floor: one with its private bathroom and the other 2 bedrooms share one bathroom. The master bedroom takes the entire 3rd floor. The bedroom is Huge, with a balcony overlooking the back yard. There is a shower and a Jacuzzi- which we did not use. The mattresses were fine but maybe bring along our own pillow since the 2 long pillows provided were just okay.
The house is clean, comfortable, and air-conditioned. The yard is fenced in, and has a beautiful pool and colorful flowers. It is located 50 yards from the public beach that stretches about 2 miles south and 2 miles north with fine, white sand. The house is situated between Dreams Resort Riviera Maya and Desire Pearl Resort. Dominique has provided 4 chairs to use for the beach. There are also places to rent chairs and umbrellas at various spots along the beach. Akamaya, which is located adjacent to Dreams Resort is an excellent place to rent lounges and an umbrella for about $5 per person per day. They even have food.
Claudia, the house keeper, was available and very responsive to all and any requests and questions.
We had a very wonderful time, and would recommend this house to anyone.
Thank you so much for your very helpful comment!
It's a real pleasure to know that the guests feel good and how to improve accommodation thanks to them!
A Great Place for a Group Wanting Privacy AND Access to the Beach and the Town
We stayed in Dominique's house from March 21-April 4, 2016. We found some information under the name of Casa Calamar and it is located right next to Condo's Calamar and the Fish Research School.
The home was lovely, well decorated, clean and in great condition. I wanted to highlight for you:
4 bedrooms - the large master bedroom takes up the whole top floor. There is a bathtub, shower, dual sinks and toilet. We didn't use the sitting area or the patio located off the master bedroom very much. It would be a good place for morning coffee, it was just too far to go back! You can get the morning sun and see the ocean from there. Three other bedrooms on the second floor. All about the same size except one has an en-suite bathroom. There is another bathroom shared for the other bedrooms.
Air Conditioning worked well and provided in all the bedrooms
The wireless internet connection was excellent
There is cable TV which worked fine but there are no English language channels that we could find
There were plenty of towels and bedding provided
The fridge worked well, the stove was very good - gas stove
We had all the necessary appliances - blender, toaster, coffee maker, and the pots/pans/dishes/cutlery were all fine. Well laid out kitchen
The pool area was great. From around 10:30 - 3:30 the pool was in the sun. The water was refreshing from the heat. The pool is not huge, but fit the six of us no problem. It is about 5.5 feet deep
The patio - we spent most of our time on the patio and around the pool. A great spot to make memories!
There is a dining and a living room area. We didn't use either very much.
Furniture is heavy duty and fits the house well.
Easy access to the beach. About a 2 walk.
The beach is quiet. Not the best section of beach but it was fine for us. Beach chairs were provided
The house is about a 1.7 km walk to downtown Puerto Morelos. Cab rides were 50 pesos to town and 80 to grocery store
The area was very safe. Never felt any issues around security. We were provided keys and both the house and gate could be locked.
Both Dominique and the on-site manager Claudia were very helpful and wanted to make our vacation as good as possible. They were quick to respond to any needs we had.
I highly recommend renting the house. It is excellent for groups of 6-8 people that want to be close to the action but still have privacy. Trustworthy owner and excellent on-site support.
A big thank-you to Dominique and Claudia!
It's with a great emotion that i read your comment! What a pleasure for me to know
that you appreciated my house.
Thank you so much !!
The big house is located in a very quiet place, and just at 50m from the wide sand beach from the caribbean sea. At the entrance of the town you can find the only botanic garden in the region and a zoo. Puerto Morelos is the gateway to the Mayan Riviera with beaches of white sand and crystalline, quiet waters, bordered by the second largest reef barrier in the world and protected by the national maritime park: It also offers incredible adventures experiences in sink holes and jungle, international gastronomy with authentic mexican caribbean flavors. You can discover luxury golf only 10 minutes from the house, wonderful trips with quads in the jungle.
