In the winter the outdoor fireplace will keep you toasty warm. We are only a few hundred yards away from the Eckert Bat Cave one of the true wonders of the Texas Hill Country.
This is an actively managed wildlife ranch. We seldom mow the main field that surrounds the skeet range as it abounds in wildflowers and is a sanctuary for horn toads and small ground birds. So bring apprioriate footwear and clothing.
Watch the sunset from the 10' wide 360 degree wrap around porch or one of the private picnic tables overlooking the river.
There is a nice pavillion that is great to hold an outdoor classroom and our WI-FI is believe are not high speed fiber!
There is a full skeet range with a high and low houses equipped to throw clay targets. Plus a full rifle range out to 700 yards. We also have a small bermed pistol range.
The James River has several small pools were bass and perch can be caught and released.
Located in the beautiful Texas Hill Country the place is just across the James River from the Nature Conservacy's Eckert Bat Cave. The gate is a waist high rock with a cattle gate painted like a Texas Flag. The gate is locate about 100 feet past the rock corral going away from the river on the south side away from Mason. The property is about 50 minutes outside of Fredricksberg and 20 minutes outside of Mason.
We live in the Hill Country on Lake Travis and in Kerrville and love going out to our ranch. We hope your family and freinds will enjoy the Ranch as much as our family has for many years.

The 'Goodnight Loving' spring flows at over 400 gallons a minute has cut a chute through the limestone for some 100 yards and makes the perfect place to cool down in the summer even on the hottest of days. Picnic benches over look the James River the perfect place to watch the sunset and Texas stars like no other place. Full Skeet Range
In the summer time it is a one minute drive to the Eckert Bat Cave to watch the nightly emergence.
Just a two minute drive puts you in Salt Branch were 'Old Yeller' fought the herd of hogs in Fred Gipsons 'Old yeller'
There is virtually no light pollution and the stars are spectacular on a clear night down at the river.
Remote location that lets you get away from the city or just stress of life. Amazing hill country views, wildlife and stars. Home is very comfortable with all the amenities you could ask for. Plenty of room to roam and adventure on the property and the skeet shooting facility is top notch. Great stay and hoping to host another group here again.
Myself and 7 friends had a bachelor party here. It consisted of having a few beers, shooting skeet, shooting pistols, shooting rifles, having a few more beers, and playing a few board games at night. This place was phenomenal. The scenery was gorgeous and the ability to just roam around in the country brought back memories from when I was a child. The stars at night were big and bright (sorry). But seriously, you cant see the stars like that in the city. Overall, fantastic vacation, and every single one of us loved it and we are already trying to figure out when we can go back. Thanks to everybody at Bar None Ranch and we appreciate your hospitality.
Perfect getaway. The drive to the property was amazing, longhorns, cattle, deer, snakes, sheep, river crossings, cliffs, and beautiful scenery. The property was more beautiful than the photos and description could ever portray. We enjoyed the disconnect from society with the availability of high speed internet. Interior of the ranch home was well maintained. I would make a minor suggestion of putting screens on the windows so they can be opened at night and allow the fresh air into the home without the bugs. The BBQ area, fire places, and fire rings were excellent hang out spots. The full wrap around porch and pavilion provided shade from the afternoon heat. The Star S property surrounding had several different African species that could be seen from the front porch of the Bar None; Gemsbok, aoudad, scimitar, as well as axis and white tail deer. The skeet shooting range provided an excellent opportunity for friendly competition. The river was an excellent hang out spot and discovering the cold springs was an added bonus. We also enjoyed the scenic drives to Old Yeller's statue in Mason, the Eckert bat cave, and Oktoberfest in Fredericksburg. We will definitely try to make this a yearly visit and we have already shared our experiences with friends/family who would like to visit as well. Thanks Tim and family for allowing us to share your beautiful property. Prosit!
What a wonderful place; quiet and peaceful, with the indescribable, fierce beauty of the Texas Hill Country. My group of ten all had a terrific time watching the hummingbirds, whitetail deer, rabbits, painted buntings and other songbirds, as well as axis deer, roan and sable antelope, and nubian ibex across the high game fences. I even jumped up a kit fox down at the river! The house had everything we needed to fix our meals; although we didn't use the smoker, grill, or fire pit, it was nice to have those available. We did use both the pistol and rifle ranges, but never got around to shooting skeet because we spent so much time down at the river--such a gem! I had honestly never heard of the James River before I booked this place, sad to say, but now its beauty is forever burned in my memory. The spring down at the river was used as a stop on the Goodnight-Loving cattle drive trail in the late 1870's--incredible to contemplate! We loved our stay here, and WILL be back. A big thanks to Tim and his family for making the property available, and for making the experience so wonderful!
My family, a few friends and I have stayed at the Bar None Ranch a few times now and we can't ever wait to go back! It is a total GEM situated in an awesome area of the Texas Hill Country. The beautiful James River runs right through the middle of it and there is an ice cold spring to chill out in in the heat of the summer. The house has a porch all the way around it so there is always a nice place to go any time of day. The inside of the ranch style house is very nicely done with 4 bedrooms, a huge upstairs loft and a nice big kitchen. It is roomy and accommodating, but does not feel like a luxury 5 star resort spa, which is what I really like because it adds to the overall ranch feel. There is a great BBQ pit that cooks THE BEST STEAKS, a very nice skeet range, pistol and rifle ranges, lots of room to roam and plenty of things to see! Also, the night skies are incredible! My kids LOVE it there too, especially since they can just run wild and get dirty! They love chasing the fireflies! Haven't seen one of those in a while? Well, they're out there!
If you are looking for a great rustic Texas Style Ranch Getaway, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PLACE!
This place was great, everthing was just like it was described. The porch was great with a breeze constantly. I spent most of my time there watching the wild life. Tim was very helpful with directions and explaining everything. I would highly recommend this place.
