Luxurious ranch lodge awaits you and your Perfect for a family get together, girls or guy retreat, or even a Romantic Weekend. The Ranch is also great for holding an special events or a small wedding. The grounds and lodge have hosted numerous couples, small get togethers, and reunions.

Located on 165 acres of Texas Hill Country remoteness and sliced through by the James River, the Bar None River Ranch appeals to the outdoor enthusiast who desires privacy. The ranch is located in southern Mason County in the Hill Country, outside of the historic small towns of Mason and Fredericksburg. The James River runs through the middle of the property. The ranch now has fiber internet making it rhe perfect place for a corporate retreat.

In the spring, wildflowers abound. In the summer you can cool down in one of the largest springs chutes in the hill country. In the fall just enjoy the crystal clear star filled skies. In the winter the outdoor fireplace will keep you toasty warm. We are only a few hundred yards away from the Eckert Bat Cave one of the true wonders of the Texas Hill Country.

This is an actively managed wildlife ranch. We seldom mow the main field that surrounds the skeet range as it abounds in wildflowers and is a sanctuary for horn toads and small ground birds. So bring apprioriate footwear and clothing.

Watch the sunset from the 10' wide 360 degree wrap around porch or one of the private picnic tables overlooking the river.

There is a full skeet range with a high and low houses equipped to throw clay targets. Plus a full rifle range out to 700 yards. We also have a small bermed pistol range.

The James River has several small pools were bass and perch can be caught and released.

Located in the beautiful Texas Hill Country the place is just across the James River from the Nature Conservacy's Eckert Bat Cave. The gate is a waist high rock with a cattle gate painted like a Texas Flag. The gate is locate about 100 feet past the rock corral going away from the river on the south side away from Mason. The property is about 50 minutes outside of Fredricksberg and 20 minutes outside of Mason.

We live in the Hill Country on Lake Travis and in Kerrville and love going out to our ranch. We hope your family and freinds will enjoy the Ranch as much as our family has for many years.

Melinda and Eileen

Why The Owner chose Texas Hill Country

This property has been in the family for nearly 40 years. The lodge was built for family reunions and family enjoyment in 2003. It is very nice for quite weekends, family/friends get together, corporate retreats, training events when you want to do your own thing and not be bothered by anyone.

What makes this lodge unique

The 'Goodnight Loving' spring flows at over 400 gallons a minute has cut a chute through the limestone for some 100 yards and makes the perfect place to cool down in the summer even on the hottest of days. Picnic benches over look the James River the perfect place to watch the sunset and Texas stars like no other place. Full Skeet Range

In the summer time it is a one minute drive to the Eckert Bat Cave to watch the nightly emergence.

Just a two minute drive puts you in Salt Branch were 'Old Yeller' fought the herd of hogs in Fred Gipsons 'Old yeller'

There is virtually no light pollution and the stars are spectacular on a clear night down at the river.

Amazing!

  • 5 of 5

What a wonderful place; quiet and peaceful, with the indescribable, fierce beauty of the Texas Hill Country. My group of ten all had a terrific time watching the hummingbirds, whitetail deer, rabbits, painted buntings and other songbirds, as well as axis deer, roan and sable antelope, and nubian ibex across the high game fences. I even jumped up a kit fox down at the river! The house had everything we needed to fix our meals; although we didn't use the smoker, grill, or fire pit, it was nice to have those available. We did use both the pistol and rifle ranges, but never got around to shooting skeet because we spent so much time down at the river--such a gem! I had honestly never heard of the James River before I booked this place, sad to say, but now its beauty is forever burned in my memory. The spring down at the river was used as a stop on the Goodnight-Loving cattle drive trail in the late 1870's--incredible to contemplate! We loved our stay here, and WILL be back. A big thanks to Tim and his family for making the property available, and for making the experience so wonderful!

My family, a few friends and I have stayed at the Bar None Ranch a few times now and we can't ever wait to go back! It is a total GEM situated in an awesome area of the Texas Hill Country. The beautiful James River runs right through the middle of it and there is an ice cold spring to chill out in in the heat of the summer. The house has a porch all the way around it so there is always a nice place to go any time of day. The inside of the ranch style house is very nicely done with 4 bedrooms, a huge upstairs loft and a nice big kitchen. It is roomy and accommodating, but does not feel like a luxury 5 star resort spa, which is what I really like because it adds to the overall ranch feel. There is a great BBQ pit that cooks THE BEST STEAKS, a very nice skeet range, pistol and rifle ranges, lots of room to roam and plenty of things to see! Also, the night skies are incredible! My kids LOVE it there too, especially since they can just run wild and get dirty! They love chasing the fireflies! Haven't seen one of those in a while? Well, they're out there!

If you are looking for a great rustic Texas Style Ranch Getaway, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PLACE!

Off road experience

  • 3 of 5

Enjoyed the scenery and the time spent with family. The sunrise and sunset view from the porch was breathtaking. The morning visits from the hummingbirds were inviting. Having a gun range was a plus for my husband and son; however would have preferred the grass to have been trimmed and the range kept up better. The first day we arrived, the AC unit's drain was leaking all over laundry area. There was trash in the master bathroom trash can, toilets needed scrubbing, and the second bathroom shower was backing up. I think if these types of issues were to be corrected and followed through; it would definetly be a better place to stay. Some communication with the ranch manger occasionally would be nice as well.

Owner's Response: Maria, Thanks for taking good care of the place. We are addressing the issues you mentioned and are sorry your stay wasnt as good as we could of made it. In regard to the leaking AC that just started a few hours before you arrived as if it had been ongoing the soft pine floors would of been destroyed in a matter of hours. I want to thank you for taking care of that. The sad part is we had a very reputable company come out on 5-28-2016 to service the unit and the work order showed they cleaned out the drain. The shower is taken care of. In regard to the small trash can not being emptied that is inexusable. The housekeeper said they were done but apparently that wasn't the case. They did mention the blue stains from the chemicals are not coming out. In regards to mowing we are very selective in when and where we mow. If we mow while the flowers have not gone to seed the will not reappear. This year has been espically challenging as the flowers just keep coming. In regards to me not contacting you I guess the gentleman in your party failed to mention the followup phone call I made after your initial phone call. He stated all appeared to be well. We sincerly appologize for not meeting your expectations. We have updated our listing to make folks better aware of not mowing the field around the skeet range and why. When we do mow we only do it at night as the horny todds are underground at that time. We will be redoing the pistol range latter this month. Thanks again for the critical feedback and glad you had safe travels home. Tim BarNone Ranch

Great weekend getaway.

  • 4 of 5

We had a couple's retreat at the property and really enjoyed being away from civilization for a couple days. The property is beautiful and the quietness of the outdoors is refreshing. It is only a short walk to a great little stream for fishing, sunbathing, or just exploring. We found the inside of the ranch to be roomy enough for eight adults, with a large kitchen stocked with anything one would need for cooking. The only complaints we have would be that the high house only threw about five rounds of skeet until someone had to go adjust the leg so it would throw again, the hand gun range has a really small berm with limited area to put paper targets, the seed ants are everywhere (just in case anyone is bringing small children), and the master bath is not in very good shape. These really are small concerns for anyone needing a little time away.

Owner's Response: First of all thanks for taking such good care of the place. The skeet range arm has been fixed. It was a loose screw that allows the clay retention bar to change position. It does that every few thousand clays. The pistol range berm is going to get some more dirt in the next couple of months. The Harvester ants have had ther mittens in the field for years they serve several purposes and are an intricate part of our game management plan. First they keep the fire ant population away. They are also the main food source for our little population of Horny Toads. The last sighting was in June. Safety is always important and the small child concern you expressed is a point taken. However we have hundreds of small children out at the ranch without incident. The red harvester ants will generally not bite or sting unless they are forced to do so in defense of their colony. There mittens are easily seen as they are round cleared areas of about a meter. They are not aggresive and to be clear to those reading the review they are out in the fields not in the house. They are fun to watch and it is amazing how far their trails go away from their mittens. As far as the Master Bath If you could send me an email with clarification that would be great. Once again thanks for the feedback and glad you got to do some shooting. Best reagards and safe travels

Relaxing getaway, remote location, beautiful scenery

  • 5 of 5

The house is rustic, open and so welcoming. We so enjoyed the wrap around porch and outdoor fireplace. The skeet shooting was so much fun for our group, and several of us spent part of each day exploring the James River (so refreshing and solitary)!! Bring water shoes because you will want to be in the river! The nearby Eckert Bat Preserve is a must see. Around 8:45 pm millions of bats emerged from the cave, and it was such a sight to see. Great fun for our family get together, and we all had a blast at the Bar None Ranch!!
