About Mike Laird

I grew up in central South Dakota and fondly remember family vacations to the Black Hills and hoping someday I'd be lucky enough to live there. My dream came true and I've been here most of my life and enjoying every minute of it. Vacation rentals provide the opportunity to share this fascinating area with others so we dove in. It's been a blast!

Mike Laird purchased this cabin in 2011

Why Mike Laird chose South Dakota

This wonderful cabin is located in one of the most beautiful parts of the Black Hills and happens to be close to one of the owners, Arlyn and Kim. When it came up for sale we thought it would be perfect for a vacation rental and bought it. We were right! People LOVE it!

What makes this cabin unique

The cabin is on a 5 acre lot in a beautiful development with well maintained roads for easy access. Surrounded by pine trees the hillside setting provides privacy while the large windows give the feeling that you're immersed in the forest.

Beautiful location up winding driveway to hillside. Beautiful open floor plan, high ceilings. Very well maintained. Had great visit over 3 nights on snowmobiling/skiing trip with my boys.

Beautiful cabin, beautiful country

  • 5 of 5

This cabin is near perfect! It is beautifully situated in the black hills near to a lot of beautiful attractions. It is not too close and not too far away. When when they say secluded, they mean it! But still easy to access. I would highly recommend this place for anyone! The cabin was perfect. And the people that we rented from were very responsive and helpful. We were lucky enough to be there for Christmas week and we're especially lucky enough to be in the cabin when it snowed on Christmas Day. Simply breathtaking and beautiful. We were able to tour deadwood, Sturgis, Mount Rushmore, and don't forget crazy horse mountain! That is something to behold I promise you! And so many other things so near to there. We definitely will be returning back to this special place into this beautiful cabin. And yes, we enjoyed the hot tub almost every day even when it was in the teens with the wind blowing!

Wonderful stay in Secluded Pines Cabin

  • 5 of 5

We just returned from a wonderful stay at Secluded Pines Cabin. We knew it was going to be just what we were looking for once we hit the gravel roads leading to the cabin. Upon arrival at the cabin we loved the seclusion and the beauty of the surrounding area. The cabin is beautiful inside and out. All the amenities of home. Great kitchen, master bed slept perfect, large master bath, separate bath with shower and first class washer and dryer. The cabin was stocked with everything you could need. We loved sitting on the deck looking for wildlife and just listening to the pines sway. Each morning about 20 turkeys would follow the ledge behind the house and in the evenings they would return. Saw deer playing near the cabin.

The cabin is close to all attractions in the Black Hills/Badlands area. Easy drive to Deadwood for dinner. Great grocery store right outside main street in Deadwood. Loved Spearfish Canyon drive and had lunch twice at Latchstrings restaurant. One of our favorite restaurants in Custer State Park was at Blue Bell Lodge. Log cabin dining with great menu. Hill City is a fun town with great wineries. Our trip to South Dakota was so much greater than we had ever expected. So much to see and do...and the part of our stay at Secluded Pines Cabin made it even better. Thanks for the use of your beautiful cabin.

Secluded Pines for livin' good!

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I scheduled Secluded Pines for the last week of a three-week vacation trip through Wyoming, Montana, and South Dakota. We learned that we had saved the best for last. Referring to Secluded Pines as a cabin is an understatement. True, it is a bit tricky to find, but, the awesome seclusion is the reward. We loved the flock of wild turkeys that stayed around the property. Inside, the attention to detail is way above what we anticipated. Every convenience was there. And, access into Deadwood, Nemo, Hill City, and the entire Mount Rushmore area is spectacular. We were sad to leave.

Wonderful Family Vacation!!

  • 5 of 5

Our first family trip to SD was wonderful! We spent 7 days at Secluded Pines and I can't speak highly enough about the property! The cabin and property is beautiful just as pictured, the furnishing are clean and comfortable and the owners are pleasant and responsive to deal with. The location was ideal for us. We could head out in the morning travel 1/2 to 1 1/4 hour to see all the sites and be back to the cabin to enjoy a nice dinner and soak in the hot tub. I was very thankful I printed out the directions and arrival instructions because we didn't have any cell service once we entered the Black Hills National Forest!

Perfect Family Vacation!

  • 5 of 5

Just returned from 5 nights at Secluded Pines Cabin. What a beautiful way to enjoy the Black Hills! From the first point of contact, the owners were great to deal with. The cabin is accurately represented by the online photos and reviews - it is beautiful, clean and well stocked. We appreciated the secluded location, yet very accessible to all of the sites we visited: Badlands, Mt. Rushmore, Custer State Park, Wind Cave and Devil's Tower. Our family was in need of some rest and relaxation, the spacious comfort of Secluded Pines is just what we needed!
