About Mike Laird

I grew up in central South Dakota and fondly remember family vacations to the Black Hills and hoping someday I'd be lucky enough to live there. My dream came true and I've been here most of my life and enjoying every minute of it. Vacation rentals provide the opportunity to share this fascinating area with others so we dove in. It's been a blast!

Mike Laird purchased this cabin in 2011

Why Mike Laird chose Nemo

This wonderful cabin is located in one of the most beautiful parts of the Black Hills and happens to be close to one of the owners, Arlyn and Kim. When it came up for sale we thought it would be perfect for a vacation rental and bought it. We were right! People LOVE it!

What makes this cabin unique

The cabin is on a 5 acre lot in a beautiful development with well maintained roads for easy access. Surrounded by pine trees the hillside setting provides privacy while the large windows give the feeling that you're immersed in the forest.

Clean, comfortable with a rustic feel. Close to most of the sights and yet off the beaten path. Would definitely stay again!

We had a great time in the Black Hills and the cabin was wonderful. My kids loved the loft and enjoyed the hot tub at night.

Beautiful Cabin, just be aware no Verizon phone service, internet practically nonexistent.

First time visit to South Dakota, myself and my husband,my sister and her husband rented the place for 5 nights ( which was not enough time to see everything that South Dakota has to offer) . We are all older adults. 61 to 69. When we were looking for a place to stay the pictures of the cabin are what grabbed us from the beginning. And exactly what you see is what you get with regards to the actual cabin. Very spacious and comfortable, kitchen has everything you need to prepare your meals. A half bathroom downstairs where the only standing shower is located. Also a washer & dryer. The master bedroom is located downstairs and has its own bathroom with two sinks and a beautiful claw footed tub. We didn't use the tub for fear of getting water all over the floor but it is possible to shower there because there is a hand held shower head but like I say we didn't want to wet the floors by accident. The closets in the bedrooms are adequate but only have wire hangers for your clothes, they really should be replaced. Also the upstairs toilet is very small and inside a confining tiny closet. If your a large person this WILL NOT WORK COMFORTABLELY for you. In the pictures of the cabin on HomeAway you can see that there is a spiral staircase that leads you to the upstairs bedroom. I did not notice them until i made the picture larger to see more detail, which I did after the fact (upon returning home). Be aware the the spiral staircase steps are very small and narrow. My sister slipped on the last day we were there and injured herself, just glad it was on the last day of our time there. She is fine now (a week after the fall) just a badly bruised big toe and assorted other bruises on her arms and legs but it was pretty scary when it happened. NOW, in a way it was her fault because she was rushing and was caring some items in one hand and only holding on to the railing with the other hand. I mention this incident ONLY because everyone should be AWARE of this spiral staircase if you are thinking about renting the cabin. The outside of the cabin in the pictures is a little deceiving because it seems you are on flat land but are not. Your located UP A HILL and surrounded by trees and brush. BUT there are very nice decks located on opposite sides of the cabin, one side is where the hot tub is located and on the other is the BBQ, patio table and 4 chairs where you can sit out in the late evening and enjoy the beautiful night sky with thousands of stars!

Owner's Response: Sorry to hear your sister had an accident. I hope she's OK. Cell phone service is definitely spotty at the cabin so we do provide wifi. Thanks for the great review and hope to see you again soon!
