Douglas Lake, also known as Douglas Reservoir, stretches out over more than 28,000 acres and 500 shoreline miles in eastern Tennessee. Douglas Lake is conveniently located near the intersections of Interstates 81 and 40, approximately 25 miles east of Knoxville. Nestled in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains, Douglas Reservoir is close to the tourist communities of Sevierville, Pigeon Forge, and Gatlinburg. Most of the lake's shoreline is privately owned farmland and residential development.

Douglas Lake was created by the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) during World War II to provide needed hydroelectric power for the war effort. Construction of Douglas Dam on the French Broad River began in 1942, and was completed in record time just 12 months later. Douglas Reservoir also provides flood control across the Tennessee Valley. The reservoir stores melted snow and spring rains for release during the dry summer months for power generation and maintenance of navigable water levels on the Tennessee River. The lower water levels during winter provide storage for next spring's rains. Water levels on Douglas Lake can vary 40 to 50 feet from low winter pool to high summer pool.

Although built for flood control and power generation, today Douglas Lake is a major recreation destination attracting two million visitors a year. Twelve public boat ramps provide lake access. Fishing, boating, water sports, swimming, and bird watching are popular lake activities. As water levels drop during the summer and fall, shore birds, wading birds, and other waterfowl flock to Douglas Lake to rest and feed along the shoreline's shallow water. Birdwatchers enjoy the migration from late July to early October.

Anglers flock to Douglas Lake for catches of largemouth bass, crappie, bluegill, and catfish (channel, blue, and flathead). Late winter and early spring also provide excellent fishing for sauger, walleye, and white bass when they make their spawning runs to the reservoir's headwaters. Although most game fish sustain a healthy population, occasional stocking of smallmouth bass, white crappie, and sauger supplement their numbers.

The TVA operates the Douglas Dam Headwater Campground and the Douglas Dam Tailwater Campground. Both self-service campgrounds include more than 60 campsites with water and electric hookups, restrooms with heated showers, boat ramp, picnic tables, and wildlife viewing area. The Headwater Campground also offers a swimming beach and the Trotter Bluff Small Wild Area, a 3/4 mile walking trail through 30 acres of hardwood forest with limestone sinkholes, views of Douglas Dam, and abundant wildflowers during the spring. The Tailwater Campground offers children's play equipment, river fishing with fishing pier, a bait and tackle shop, and a group pavilion that can be booked for special events. The TVA welcomes visitors to the Douglas Dam and power station.

For some off-water fun, take a day trip to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, America's most visited national park. View awe-inspiring mountain vistas by car or on foot. The park has over 800 miles of hiking trails, ranging from short jaunts to strenuous treks. And with 1,500 black bears living in the Park, visitors hope to get a view of these magnificent animals. As the sun sets over the Smokies, return to Douglas Lake to prepare for the next day's adventures.

About Sara Wall

Mike and Sara Wall have owned and managed another cabin in Sevierville for several years. Wanting to provide a memorable vacation experience for larger groups, they have now purchased The Lodge at Douglas Lake. It is our goal to personally attend to your needs and not just own 'another rental cabin'.

Sara Wall purchased this cabin in 2011

Why Sara Wall chose Tennessee

Our son lives in the area and we wanted to semi-retire here in Sevierville and be close to him and his family. We love the outdoors and lake, so The Lodge at Douglas Lake is a perfect choice for our family.

What makes this cabin unique

We love sitting on one of the covered decks and watching the wildlife or just enjoying the view of the lake and the mountains. It is perfect for family celebrations and getting everybody together. There's enough room for the whole family to spread out, but yet still cook and eat together or enjoy the water.

We love providing a clean, large space for weddings, retreats, business meetings, and family reunions. We enjoy meeting the variety of guests that travel to east Tn.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We had a great time at your lodge! It was everything you said and more. The weather was super, the Lodge was in great shape, and we all enjoyed the lake. Your Lodge was the ideal place for our family reunion. Thanks again.

Fantastic property!

  • 5 of 5

Our family has rented various cabins in the Smokies for almost a decade now. When we found The Lodge at Douglas Lake, we struck gold! Mike and Sara go above and beyond to make your stay pleasant in every way. The cabin has amazing flexibility with both sleeping and dining arrangements for large groups. We just left from our second annual stay and have already booked for next year!

Christmas at the Lodge

  • 5 of 5

The Long family, totaling 33 in all, just enjoyed a fabulous 3 1/2 days at the Lodge at Douglas Lake. This is our second stay at the lodge and it has been unaminously voted as a family tradition that we hope to carry on. The Lodge lends itself perfectly for our families activities . The large gathering room was in use 100% of the timne for making gingerbread houses, puzzles, games, eating and watching videos of past runions on the wall tv screen. The large parking area was a plus with enough room to play many volley ball games. And of course the "capture the flag" nerf gun battle made a fantastic memory. The Lodge is truly a remarkable place and our hosts, Sara and Mike Wall go above and beyond to make their guests comfortable. Thank you so much and we look forward to returning in 2018.

Beautiful, Clean, everything we could have asked for! And even All decorated for the he Fall season

  • 5 of 5

We were most impressed with kitchen. The size, the equipment! Most other property just had a standard home size kitchen. Not appropriate when vacationing with family of 22!

The Lodge size was terrific, that if needed, opportunities to find an outside spot to have quiet time alone on the deck, was sooo nice. Swings, gliders, tables and chairs.

The outdoor space was excellent! We took hikes and walks . 񕰠And we were all very very impressed at the hot water! Never ran out !!!!

Next time, we are considering coming in May or June for more lake activities.

Thank you Sara and Mike!

Fabulous facility for our scrapbook weekend!

  • 5 of 5

Such a fun time wit 18 girlfriends at this spacious yet homey lodge. We had plenty of space to spread out to work on our scrapbook albums in the large dining room as well as conveniently placed outlets for our electronic devices. Ample beds and fully-stocked kitchen were welcome. Outdoor spaces to enjoy the serene surroundings. Short drive to the Scrapbook Superstore in Sevierville. We're already planning our next weekend!

The Lodge is amazing. Excellent accommodations.

  • 5 of 5

We have a large family of 18 and there was plenty of room for all activities. The Lodge is clean and in excellent shape. We loved the large kitchen for cooking which had all the equipment we would ever need. Location is close to many activities yet it is isolated enough to provide a very private and quite environment. Already making our plans to return next year.
