3 Br/2 Ba 1960 Renovated Cottage Encircled By Mountains, Trails, Streams & Views
Suzanne and Marty Kelly
About Suzanne and Marty Kelly
Suzanne & Marty met & fell in love while working at an Eco-resort on the island of St.John in the US Virgin Islands. After much deliberation about where to make our permanent home (and even more on where we shouldn't) we decided on the mountains of North Carolina. We moved here after our island wedding in 2004 and have never regretted our decision.
Suzanne and Marty Kelly purchased this Cottage in 2016
Why Suzanne and Marty Kelly chose Gerton
I drove by this property nearly every day and finally saw in one of the real estate apps that it was listed as a pre-foreclosure. On a whim, one day I drove down the drive and realized that it was vacant. I sat on the deck and looked out into the valley while listening to the trickling stream which runs alongside the house. I sent a text and a picture to Marty that just said, "Perfect!" The house needed a ton of work, but the land and surroundings were always present. The house went up for auction on the Henderson County courthouse steps and, after a little bidding war, we were the proud owners!
What makes this Cottage unique
This property is surrounded by land owned and cared for by the Carolina Mountain Land Conservancy (CMLC). The house overlooks an orchard which hosts apple gathering days in the fall, and weddings during warmer days. When the trees are bare, you have views all the way down into the Hickory Nut Gorge Valley. There are hiking trails running alongside the 1 acre property that lead to a beautiful stream. In addition, there is a small brook that trickles along. Sitting on the deck and listening to the waterfall and the singing birds is a pleasurable way to spend the day.

Perfect home away from home
This gorgeous house has had all the right renovations and the owners thought of everything to make our stay cozy and perfect. We loved the layout of the house, as well as the furnishings. The location is incredible, with a wonderful trailhead across the street, waterfalls on the property, the sound of running water and the woods while on the deck, which has a fire pit, hammock, and hot tub. It feels remote, but was a short drive to Asheville and Chimney Rock, etc. It was a lovely stay for my family with three kids (ages 8, 11, and 14). We hope to be back one year when the leaves change!
We had a wonderful experience. Well equipped and maintained. Absolutely peaceful and relaxing.
Loved this place. Will definately return, our favorite spot in the mountains!
I'll tell you what I loved. The rooms were decorated exactly as I would do it. Nothing beats waking up in the morning, walking outside and seeing the wonderful view and listening to the water flow by the creek.
The hot tub outside was a favorite and despite it being summertime, there were no mosquitoes! There were a few paper wasps, so some traps outside would be good, but it wasn't a big deal.
There are TVs in the bedrooms and living area, and the appliances are all up to date.
We will definitely be returning.
Just as described!
We’ve stayed at many different VRBO properties... this rental met or exceeded all expectations. The owners thought of everything and paid particular attention to the little details! Beautiful, relaxing, clean, well appointed and the setting was absolutely beautiful!
The location is convenient to Asheville, Hendersonville, chimney rock, really everything you could want to do. Multiple trailheads at the house... stream and small falls on the property.
Back deck affords lots of space and multiple books for privacy, yet set up to accommodate larger gatherings:
We had a great week blending time together and alone on site as well as visits to many different locales to sample art, food, nature and shopping.
Perfect little house
My husband and 2 boys had a great 5 day stay. House was very clean and very well stocked. Really nice hot tub and view in the backyard. We loved listening to the stream that ran next to the house it was so peaceful. 5 star place to stay close to chimney rock, lake lure and Asheville. Highly recommend!
Fabulous Mountain stay
We had the most amazing 5 day. The house was beautifully renovated. Warm & inviting with an open floor plan. The three decks off of the side of the house provided spectacular views of the mountains, the sound of the mini waterfall adjacent to the property, enjoyment of the hot tub post hikes, and a great area to relax and enjoy. The property is very private and we truly loved every moment. We hope to return for future visits.
