We enjoy gardening, antiquing, travelling, music and the outdoors. We have travelled through the British Isles, Europe, the American West, Canada and Mexico but now are content to share our place with other travelers.

It would be hard to find a better location for a vacation rental. For historians, we are in the heart of colonial America and a comfortable drive to the Nation's Capital in Washington, DC. Another direction will take you to the beautiful Atlantic Beaches for a quick overnite stay or a long day's outing. Naturalists will enjoy pristine mountain streams known for exceptional trout fishing, or expansive National forests with mountain lakes. This property is well suited for people who wish to relax and enjoy the natural surroundings of the Valley and mountains, as well as those who wish to visit the myriad of attractions nearby or within short driving distance. It is a perfect place for photographers, artists, musicans, birdwatchers, writers or those simply seeking rest and relaxation. The four distinctive seasons lend themselves uniquely to a vacation anytime of the year.
This is a family friendly home with safe outside play areas for children. Our farm menagerie includes donkeys, sheep, cattle, and beautiful laying hens who lay colorful eggs - including green and blue! Our family pets include friendly dogs and cats and two retired ponies. Our guests can enjoy the bounty of our family garden while they are here as well as fresh eggs if they like.
Two of the most strking benefits of staying here are the magnificent morning vistas of the Allegheny and Blue Ridge Mountains. Often the morning mist outlines the layers of mountain tops that cause you to pause, and often get your camera!
Equally as beautiful, are the spectacular starry skies that are displayed on clear, cool nights. With no light polution from urban areas, the starry skies are a sight to behold!
We have just returned from our week stay at the Cottage. The week was exactly what we hoped it would be. Great family time in a relaxed, peaceful setting. We have two young children who loved the animals, especially the chickens and cats. The farm surroundings provided plenty of entertainment for the kids and we spent most of our time around the pool. I took a walk every morning and each day saw wildlife, it is just a beautiful setting. There are two hiking trails on the property we explored the shorter one. It was perfect for our kids. We did make it into Harrisonburg a few times for dinner or an activity. The drive is an easy 30 minutes. Carol and Jim are very nice and welcoming.
We are returning this summer due to our children's obsession with the farm! My daughters were terribly scared of dogs before our visit, and now they talk about Max and Livy, the dogs, all the time. The dogs are kept leashed to trees around a corner from the cottage. Jim and Carole allowed my kids, 3 and 5, to walk the dogs anytime they liked. They also were able to get their own eggs from the chicken coop. Carole gave my daughters treats for the donkeys. Let's not forget when Jim brought my girls to see a baby lamb the morning after it was born! At night the adults had a great time around the fire pit.
The house is beautiful and the kitchen has everything we needed for our large group. Two notes: The cottage is right next to Carole and Jim's house. We loved that--but not for everyone. The other issue is that the cottage sleeping arrangements are awkwardly laid out. there are three bedrooms up a staircase on one side of the house with a bathroom downstairs. there is another bedroom up stairs accessed on the other side of the house with an en suite bathroom.
Overall the farm gets 5 stars. I only wish I could give it 6!
Jim and Carole,
We picked your property for our annual two-week vacation based on research about the area and your online presence on VRBO. We had high hopes, but it was so much more than we could have imagined. The peace and quiet is so refreshing, the grounds are beautiful, the pets and farm animals are sweet and fun to be around. We especially loved the dogs (David) and the donkeys (Marilyn). We took lots of photographs to document the wonderful time we had.
Your farm put us in a good position to experience many things the area has to offer. We hiked in Shenandoah National Park and from the Blue Ridge Parkway, as well as in the George Washington National Forest and the Monongahela National Forest in West Virginia. We explored Staunton, Harrisonburg, and Charlottesville and had some fabulous meals. David took several opportunities to experience fly fishing in the area.
But maybe most of all, your friendliness and hospitality made us feel comfortable and at home here. Thank you so much for opening your home to us. It’s a trip we will never forget.

3 generations stayed for Memorial Day weekend at the farm. The house is spacious and has room for everyone to either gather together or have a little privacy. The outdoor firepit area and deck with gas grill were enjoyed by all. Our hosts, Carol and Jim, were available as needed and frequently checked in with us as they went about their normal routines. Jim made sure our granddaughter got to see the baby lambs up close. The fresh eggs were a treat as were the strawberries I gathered from the garden for breakfast.Carol even contacted us and mailed us a few items we inadvertently left behind. We were so glad to have found this gem for our stay for a wedding in Bridgewater. I believe we had the best accommodations of all the wedding guests! You won't be disappointed with a stay at Seven Oaks Farm.
My family stayed at the Cottage for JMU Graduation May 8,9,10, 2015. It blew us away. Carole and Jim immediately become your friends. They are so welcoming and attentive. ANYTHING we needed was there. My 5 year old nephew got to feed the baby lamb, what an experience. Connecting with nature is the true spirit of this home. The Cottage is beautiful and immaculate. Comfortable personal touches throughout. We will be returning for another stay. This Cottage is a must see and rent. You will not be sorry. Thank you Carole and Jim for making our weekend stay the best!! Susan and Harry Wessolleck
We had a wonderful stay in May at Seven Oaks Cottage. The facilities were just as described, very clean and comfortable, and so homely with lots of personal touches and plenty of leaflets and advice about the surrounding area. We visited Staunton, the Frontier Culture Museum the Skyline Drive and Charlottesville - all an easy drive from the cottage. We also enjoyed the fresh eggs the owners gave us from their chickens! The owners were very helpful and friendly, whilst also respecting our privacy. We enjoyed seeing all the animals, walking in the forest on the farm and sampling some of the fresh strawberries growing just outside the cottage. The fire pit was great - toasting marshmallows in the flames, spotting fireflies and stargazing over the rolling hills around us - a truly magical stay, thank you so much.
The Shenandoah National Park is a short drive away as well as the Blue Ridge Parkway and Skyline Drive. In addition there are a number of vineyards nearby as well as stables for horseback riding. Wonderful restuarants, museums, farmers' markets, antique shops, and the American Shakespeare Company at the Black Friar Theatre are all within a short 20 minute drive. For day trips, Natural Bridge, Luray Caverns, Historic Charlottesville and Lexington are all less than an hour's drive. A fun place for the whole family is the Green Valley Book Fair, open 6 times a year for two weeks. A day on the farm offers trails through the woods for hiking, a large private inground pool for day or evening swimming, a firepit for chilly evenings and making 'smores,' and a variety of farm animals including sheep, ponies, donkeys, cattle, and ten beautiful laying hens, some that lay colored eggs! Brilliant starry skies will amaze you at the end of the day!
