Terrific up-to-date house just three houses to a private sandy beach and a short walk to the Barnstable marina with dining, the whale watching tours, fishing trips and boat ramp.
It is an upside down house with an open kitchen, eating and sitting area upstairs that opens to a large deck with glimpses of the water. There is also a bunk room on this floor with four single beds. On the ground floor there is a family room which is great for kids to hang out while the adults are upstairs. There are two more bedrooms downstairs with queen size beds. The kitchen is open and updated with granite countertops and modern appliances.
I stayed here with my 2 young adult children and 2 of their friends. Having two living room areas was very nice at night when the kids played cards/watched tv upstairs and I could read/watch tv downstairs. The house is a short walk to a quiet beach and a longer walk to the cute village of Barnstable. Wifi worked great and the air-conditioning units kept the house a comfortable temperature during a hot week. The owners were pleasant to work with and when there was trouble with the cable they called back immediately. Despite these many positives, I was not pleased overall with the house because of its poor condition. The carpets and rugs were incredibly stained, stuffing was coming out of patio chair cushions, areas of the walls needed to be touched up with paint, some kitchen cabinets had the owners’ belongings seemingly thrown in, the garage was a bit of a mess etc. My bedroom did not have a mirror or a dresser (but did have a desk with no chair?). It was terribly disappointing to drive almost 20 hours to find this. I did speak with the owners and they suggested it was the end of the summer and thus the house has been used for several months. However, my cost and expectations are no different from families that rented at the start of the season.
My husband loved the short walk through the quiet neighborhood to the beach or little restaurants. And thought the best part was the large deck upstairs, just off the kitchen. Great for a family BBQ and evening under the stars. My teenage sons loved the wi-fi and cable TV. I loved the house design and the welcome book we did some many fun activities including tours and boat rentals. Thank you! We'll be bcack!
This was our third year spending time at this wonderful house in the beautiful harbor town of Barnstable. The location is perfect, close to the beach, and far enough from the bustle of the small village to feel the quiet of the countryside. The house is comfortable, warm (in the November Chill) and well furnished. It is a short walk into the charming village of Barnstable with shops and restaurants that are quite impressive for the size of the town. We love to eat at the Tavern in town, and the larger town of Hyannis is just about 6 miles away if you are seeking livelier adventure.
House is just three houses from private, sandy, child-friendly beach. You can walk to restaurants, the Barnstable Marina and the Whale Watch tours.
In addition to the quite location, it is less then 10 minutes to shopping and movies.
