About Kirstin, Yolanda, or Randy

We live on island, as does our staff. We provide quick response to needs. Of still greater interest is the Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge, 5 miles from the cottage, south on Sanibel as well as Sanibel recreation center.

Kirstin, Yolanda, or Randy purchased this cottage in 1998

Why Kirstin, Yolanda, or Randy chose Florida

This is a gorgeous private acre on Captiva's world renowned beach. This small, Olde Florida Cottage is like a blast from the past with Tropical Landscaping, great beach location, privacy and amazing sunsets; nothing on these islands is closer to the Gulf--what more could you ask for? Awesome, some guests call it shabby chic design.

What makes this cottage unique

Amazing location right on the beach, wonderful views and location. Great spa, amazing tropical landscaping. Full acre on the beach. So close to Santiva Village Marina, groceries, great restaurants, fishing and shelling... walk to Sanibel! Close to recreation center and Ding Darling.

Guestbook comments from the owner

The week went by too fast! My husband and I stayed in the upper suite and my parents stayed below. Everything we needed was provided to us and we enjoyed almost all of our meals out on the patio together. The dolphins swam by on many occasions. We loved the birds at Ding Darling and all of the friendly people on the island. My aunt and uncle came to visit us on two evenings, and we stayed outside and played the ukulele and sang songs while we relaxed and chatted. Everyday we were amazed at a different beautiful sunset. On Sunday night, we made a pile of snacks and watched the Super Bowl up here, that was a treat. We enjoyed the hot tub, the hammock and the seashell hunting nets, but most of all relaxing with the view and the warm weather. We head back to snow and subzero temps today- but I wish I could bottle this place up and take it with me.

Beautiful, relaxing, secluded retreat

  • 4 of 5

The property was everything that we hoped it would be. The private land with this cottage is huge and the landscaping is incredibly beautiful. Even when just hanging out in the yard, you feel like you've been transported to a tropical oasis will all of the lush greenery and palm trees around you. We appreciated the umbrellas and beach chairs that you can take out onto the public beach area, where we spent a lot of our time. The cottage was cute and had all of the amenities that we needed. The only critique is that one of the ceiling fans was loose and made noise banging around, and all of the electronics in the apartment had so many LED lights that it was a bit distracting for sleep.

The reason for 4 stars rather than 5 are for some of the snafus that happened. They had recently changed the lock and forgot to get the key to us. Multiple lights had burned out or weren't working properly so we had to have someone come take care of that. There isn't any soundproofing between the floors, so we could hear the TV from the people below us on constantly late at night. And on our last day to sleep in, housekeeping made a mistake and showed up to clean our apartment before 8 a.m., waking us up and demanding to know when we were leaving (we weren't leaving that day and checkout isn't until 10 a.m. anyway). The management team was apologetic and offered to let us have a late checkout the following day, but unfortunately that didn't work for us and nothing else was offered.

But overall experience was still wonderful, and I would highly recommend this cottage.

Owner's Response: We were pleased to have this guest and she is partially correct. Yes, a cleaner showed up at 8am, when our scheduled check-out was the next day after 10AM. In fact the cleaner was not even scheduled to be there. She was a new cleaner who had done a refresher at the cottage earlier in the week and made two mistakes: 1)she showed up at the wrong property on the wrong date and time. 2)We NEVER allow cleaners before 10,AM, or later. Unfortunately, while we were not responsible for this gross error, the cleaner made an unforgivable mistake and we offered to let the guests stay as late as the guests wished on check-out day. Also, we in fact do have 15" of sound proofing between floors. The guests in the lower suite may have been playing their TV too loud and we would have been more than happy to address the matter had we only been informed during the stay. We are extremely responsive and deal promptly with any and all complaints. In over ten years of successful renting with many repeat guests, we have never had another complaint of noise from the other unit. But, this family oriented community has children and we do occasionally have some noise. The small cottage is the only structure on almost an acre of property on the beach, quite private and buffered with major landscaping and gardens. But there are other guests on island. We regret that there was any inconvenience.

Perfect location

  • 4 of 5

Lovely spot on a beautiful island.

The upstairs unit has the view. The downstairs unit has the kitchen and washer/dryer. It really needs a $1000 investment in new sheets, dishes, and cooking equipment. Screens were ripped downstairs. Sliding door not working properly upstairs. Upstairs sheets appeared to have bloodstains on them.

Again, a great place, but for $500/day, the place needs some love.

Everyday I woke up to Paradise. My family and I described this place as Paradise everyday we were there. We walked daily on the beach and found amazing shells and corals. Santibel/Captiva Island had great places to eat, especially Island Cow. Management was immediately available, and came by when I had an issue with my cable needing reset. Management supplied about everything you would possibly need to make your stay complete. Everything was so clean. My husband and I have already discussed staying again next year.

Thank you Coquina Cottage on the Beach!

Owner's Response: This cottage has two lockout suites, each is on a different floor: one at beach level and one suite is elevated just one flight. The old Florida, Shabby Chic cottage sits on almost a full acre of beach property which is surrounded by lush tropical gardens. One small step off the lower level deck and you find yourself standing in beautiful beach sand. A short hop west on the beach quickly takes you to the pristine Gulf of Mexico; and the sunset views from the cottage decks are truly spectacular.

Private yet Convenient

  • 5 of 5

This was our second stay at Coquina Cottage and we absolutely love it! It is a private cottage with beautiful landscaping and direct access to the beach. The hammock and hot tub are secluded from any neighbors. The location is within walking distance of several restaurants and a small convenience store. We also rented bikes and rode down to a marina as well as other shops and restaurants. The sunsets either from the beach or right off the upper balcony are stunning! There are plenty of beautiful shells and we found several large starfish in the water. Our favorite moment is when a manatee swam right up to the beach where we were wading and visited with us! This is a perfect place for a romantic getaway! We look forward to returning for our third trip soon!

Tiny cottage on the beach with a beautiful tropical garden

  • 5 of 5

We had a very relaxing time at Coquina Cottage. The owner visited us, asked us for our feedback and helped instantly. He even served us with a homemade-style cake and fresh fruits. There was bugspray in both rooms, which you will need after sunset. The estate is really on the beach with breathtaking sunsets! There were only very few other people on the beach. Sometimes it felt like a private strech of beach. We loved shelling for hours. There are lots of beautiful shells on this Captiva beach!
