Best Location on this River!

The Santa Ana River upper headwaters of the river in the San Bernardino Mountains still retain a free flowing character and outstanding natural values. The upper headwaters, including its sparkling waters, scenic verdant meadows, rich riparian habitat, and thick forests of pine, fir, and oak offer an outdoor recreation mecca for hikers, bicyclists and fishermen. Perfect place to reconnect with family and friends in a green and pristine mountain wilderness. Come and surround yourself with the natural beauty and privacy of a wooded landscape.

Give yourself time for writing and hiking, painting and reading and stargazing in this peaceful sanctuary. Sit back and take delight in the breath-taking view from the deck as the sun sets and listen to the soothing sounds of nature. Birdwatchers often spot owls, herons, ducks, woodpeckers, hawks and quail.

This is a quality rental for families, perfect for family reunions and quiet retreats.

About R.J. Hendrickson

Originally from the lake country of northern Minnesota. Robert hand-scribed this fabulous home and all the amazing details. Robert likes to tinker and invent. Anna enjoys landscaping this five acre canvas. Their hospitality experience included owning a bed and breakfast in New Zealand. The log house shares this five acre property with the owner’s cabin - 300' away from the house. We respect your privacy, but if you need anything we can assist immediately. We are very interested in making sure your stay is comfortable.

R.J. Hendrickson purchased this house in 1997

Why R.J. Hendrickson chose Inland Empire

We handcrafted this unique log home ourselves, with much attention to detail. Located in a beautiful green wilderness, the Santa Ana River is unique for So. California - green and pristine. Love the apple blossoms and yucca in the Spring. Bird watching includes herons, owls, quail and hawks. Stars are a lot brighter out here. We encourage our guests to learn about our region's rich history, encouraging stewardship of this rich and unique riparian environment.

What makes this house unique

Private gate, 1/2 mile to the cabin. Only ten neighbors, all homes are on 5 acres surrounded by 30+ miles of beautiful national forest. Private gate, cabin is 1/4 mile away from the paved road on a private road. Fabulous views. This is not crowded like Big Bear, even on holidays.

Guestbook comments from the owner

RJ…just want to add my 2 cents worth.

We really enjoyed the 2 night stay at your Log cabin. What an accomplishment. My daughter and her husband flew out from Dallas just for my Mom’s 90th birthday celebration, so you know this was a big deal for me and Tammy to have our mom honored like this. Your place was perfect. And added to that was the warm feeling you gave us to be around you. We have been emailing each other back and forth saying how we hope we can all get together again and do a repeat.

Great Getaway.

  • 5 of 5

This was the second time my family and I have used this cabin and just like the last time it was great. Plenty of room for all of the family, friends and kids. Everyone had just as good of an experience this time as they remembered from the last time. It was a prefect opportunity to do some fishing, hiking, wheeling or just relax on the deck while we fired up the BBQ. Definetly would come back again.

Owner's Response: "Large party" meant large group. This is not a party house, it is in a quiet neighborhood. Our neighbors do not want any large events or weddings here.

Amazing cabin!

  • 5 of 5

Great cabin, great location, great owners! What more can I say that the other reviewers haven't? It was more than enough space for 14 of us, aged 13-60 and we all equally loved it! The property and cabin are both beautiful. The kitchen is adequately-sized, fully-equipped with everything you might need. My ONLY complaint would be the shower head in the main downstairs bathroom. It is a water-saving one, but it makes for a pretty cold shower. The other 2 showers were fine.

The owner's dogs are great, too!

Beautiful Property!

  • 4 of 5

We had a rough start due to the rain & not being able to get through the road, so we missed out on a day. Anna/RJ were great about giving us a refund to cover the 1 day. When we finally were able to go check in, it was quite a task having to carry everything from the vehicles, up the road to the cabin (Anna/RJ were very helpful with this task). Once we were all settled in, it was quite a beautiful cabin and it was great to see all the work they had done building this place. We even came across a book w/pictures showing the build of this cabin which was great to see. This place was exactly as it looks in the pictures i saw online. It was very clean & well maintained. Beautiful sight standing outside on the deck, and just enjoying the peacefulness of it all. There were 14 of us, and we all fit comfortably. If you're looking for a place to just get away & enjoy some quite time, this is definitely a place to stay at. Beautiful cabin and great people.

We should have stayed longer!

  • 5 of 5

Four families, one fantastic time!! RJ & Anna really know how to do it up right. Their log home was perfect for our party of 14! No one had to fight or complain about where they were going to sleep or shower; there was plenty of room for all. They had no problem letting the kids explore their 5 acre property. The only regret I have is"We should have stayed longer!". We all plan to come again next year. I can't wait!
