E Komo Mai and Welcome to the SUNNY west side of Kauai. With less than 15 inches of rain annually, and 15 miles of white sandy beach just a short walk away, why go anywhere else? Guarantee there will be “no rain on your parade” that can spoil your vacation.

Hale Ilima is an upscale beach cottage in the true sense of the word. It’s delightful island style architecture and design will delight you in every way. There are 3 generous size bedrooms with 2 baths. The high ceilings and abundant windows bring the light and the breezes in, to give it that tropical feel.

All new 500 ct. bed linens and thick towels await you. There is a King, Queen, and twin bedroom to accommodate every travelers needs. The twin room can be made into a King as well for couples traveling together.

A new 40’” LCD TV with cable, wireless internet, and free local and long distance calling are just some of the special features we offer.

Everything you need for a beach vacation is here from beach chairs, boogie boards, beach towels and umbrellas, and did I mention the ocean, sun, and surf? A short 5-minute walk to a lifeguarded beach insures your swimming safety. This begins a nearly deserted stretch of white sand that goes for miles…..all the way to the Na Pali Coast. Venture off to Polihale Beach, a wild natural beach, with majestic sand dunes serving as a backdrop.

Take a hike in the Waimea Canyon, the “Grand Canyon of the Pacific” as Mark Twain called it. Instead of driving for hours to get there from other parts of the island, you are only a mile away from the back road leading directly to the top of the canyon and the NaPali coast cliffs.

A stop at the Shrimp Station, or Island Tacos, for lunch will make the wait worthwhile, finished off with the island’s best sno cones at Jo-Jo Shave ice.

If it is a resort atmosphere and dining experience that you are looking for, you are only 25 minutes for the resort area of Poipu Beach. Here you will find world famous hotels, coves of white sand, upscale shopping and dining opportunities.

When your day is near an end, this is the ONLY place to be for SUNSET. From the comfort of your lanai, you can salute the end of the day with the sun setting out over the ocean. Can it get any better than this?

Come and enjoy life...as it should be... at the beach.

About Scott Worner

I have traveled all over the world, but home is on Oahu.

Scott Worner purchased this house in 2011

Why Scott Worner chose Kauai

I lived in this town on Kauai as a young child, and always wanted to return to the place of my wonderful childhood memories.

What makes this house unique

Living at the beach in Kekaha is an authentic Hawaiian experience. This old sleepy plantation town is 'at the end of the road'. This is the farthest western town in the USA. It is also the driest and most likely sunny spot on the island.,

This is were a 15 mile stretch of white sand beach begins and ends, at Polihale Beach and the cliffs of the Na Pali Coast.

The town is also at the base of the Waimea Canyon, named the 'Canyon of the Pacific' by Mark Twain. Breathtaking canyon scenery and numerous hiking opportunities await you. Beautiful sunsets over the ocean can only be seen from this part of the island. Views of the island of Ni'ihau, and whale watching in the Winter season right from your lanai.

Beautiful and perfect stay!!!

  • 5 of 5

We had an unforgettable time at Hale Ilima. Everything was perfect, the house is beautiful with an ocean view that looks from the main living room and dining room. Everything is perfect, as described. The house is perfectly equipped and its location is convenient, close to tourist sites but located in a quiet area. We will definitely return to this beautiful home when we have the fortune to return to Kauai.

Perfect place

  • 5 of 5

We were looking for a place away from the crowds and we found it perfectly here. You get a true local Hawaiian feel in the town of Kekaha on the west side of Kauia. The people are so friendly. The road to Waimea Canyon is just 2 blocks from the house and the house is a perfect base for exploring the canyon. The house is also located one block from Kekaha Beach Park. The quaint town of Waimea is just 3 miles away. Several nice little places to eat there. JoJo's Shave Ice & Island Tacos is a must! The more swimmable beaches of Salt Pond and Poipu are easy 15-20 minutes from the house. However, our favorite beach was right across the street for our house. We loved relaxing by the beach listening to the waves hit the rocks and watching the sailboats go by on their way to the Napali Coast. Port Allen, the start of cruises to the coast is also 15-20 minutes away. If you want a resort feel, go to Poipu or Princeville. But if you want a quiet place to stay with easy access to all that Kauia has to offer, this is your place. Plentiful beach supplies are provided including cooler and beach towels and chairs. Laundry facilities including detergent are provided. The inside of the house is spotless and very spacious with 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. Portable AC units are provided and kept the house comfortable particularly at night. In the heat of the day, it struggles to stay cool but what are you doing at your house in Kauia in the middle of the day?!?! I loved my mornings and evenings sitting on the lanai listening to the ocean. Bugs were never a problem and there is a grill and table on the lanai if you wanted to eat at home. Scott is quick to answer any questions should you need assistance. I can't speak highly enough about this piece of heaven on the quiet, sunny and dry west side of the most beautiful of all of the islands. We hope to return in the future!

Owner's Response: Thank you John for such a detailed and extensive review of your stay. I think anyone reading this will have a very accurate expectation of a stay at Hale Ilima. What's not to like? Sun, ocean, sunsets, and almost NO BUGS! We hope that you will find another opportunity to return, and relax, at the special place in the sun. Mahalo Scott

A lovely base for exploring Kauai

  • 5 of 5

This home was really perfect as well as the location very close to Waimea valley and Polihale. Furthermore, the Kekaha beach, with a lifeguard is within walking distance. 10 minutes drive and you can swim at the calmer Salt Pond Beach.

The house is very welcoming with an airy atmospere and with the AC some hours before bedtime was enough to create a comfortable temperature for sleep with just the fans working slowly..

Every morning at dawn we walked and enjoyd the beautiful beach. Every evening we went down to the beach again to watch the stars and galaxies of the the Milky way. During the nights the sound of the surf beating the beach lulled us into calm sleep.

Breakfasts and dinners prepared in the functinal and well equipped kitchen were enjoyed on the lanai with a great view of the ocean. The sunset from the lanai is worth some rush to be in time for.

The house is very clean and no bugs within sight! Not even mosquitos on the lanai in the evenings.

Scott is quick to answer questions and saved no efforts to make our stay a very pleasant one!

Ask for the late check-out IF you have a late flight. The relaxed last day was worth it.

What more could you ask for?!?!?!?!

  • 5 of 5

This is a great Kauai west side ocean and mountain view rental. We recently stayed there for 2 weeks and it is definitely the nicest place we have stayed in Kauai. All amenities were as stated on the VRBO site. The ocean view from the lanai is unforgettable. You can watch whales breeching and spouting all day long (in season) as well as beautiful sunsets from the lanai. Scott is quick to answer questions and ready to help in all ways. Would love to stay here again on our next visit to Kauai.

You can hear several different types of birds in the morning along with tropical trees and plants on property. This is first class island living. You cannot go wrong staying at this location. Thanks so much.

Home Away from Home

  • 5 of 5

My family of five, two adults and three teenagers immediately felt at home when we walked through the front door! Absolutely amazing! Very clean and comfortable. As a mom, the kitchen, washer/dryer/dishwasher and grill made our trip a whole lot easier. One of the fire alarm batteries needed changing while we were there and the property manager and maintenance man were quick and came the same day to change it- our travel plans were never disrupted! Our favorite part of the house was the front lanai- we were able to watch the whales and dolphins playing everyday! Having the beach across the street was perfect. The sunsets were amazing and at night, the entire Milky Way is visible! All the equipment we needed to have fun on the beach were supplied and in great working order- snorkeling gear, beach mats/chairs, boogie-boards, goggles, umbrellas, and beach towels. We liked the slower pace and quietness of the nearby towns of Kekaha, Waimea, Hanapepe and Kalaheo. We spent three weeks here and we traveled all over the island. Recommend spending time hiking in Waimea Canyon and the trails on the Na Pali Coast, snorkeling at Salt Pond and Poipu, shopping in Koloa and Kapaa, and a visit to the Kilauea Lighthouse! The luau and river boat cruise at Smith's was fun. So much culture and history to appreciate on this lovely island. We will be back and will definitely rent this house again!

We want to come back

  • 5 of 5

Our family of four, including two teens, had a great time here. The house was very clean and comfortable. The availability of a washing machine/dryer and dishwasher were much appreciated and while it did get hot, the fans were a help. Perhaps the AC units are needed in the Summer but in October they went unused. Kitchen was fairly well stocked.

The star is the lanai, though some of us seemed to be targeted by mosquitoes. The other stars are the nearby beaches. Kekaha beach (about 1/4 mile away) was almost empty, a startling contrast from our visit to San Diego in September. There's also a bit of a beach just across the road, but in both locations beware the strong shore breaks. I learned my lesson on my first day and so did the kids. We also visited Polihale (just up the road) beach at sunset which was a highlight. The house comes with many sets of fins and snorkel masks, beach chairs and mats and boogie-boards. We put them all to good use.

The road got a new layer of tar while we were there, which probably means it won't happen again for a long time. Traffic was definitely noticeable (with all the windows open) but it wasn't a problem.

If you forgot what the Milky Way looks like, you can see it again here.

While Kekaha is out of the way, we viewed that as a good thing. We didn't shop in Kekaha but just 5 minutes down the road in Waimea we found all we needed. We were able to get to Waimea canyon in minutes. Our boat tours out of Eleele (and the art tour in Hanapepe) are only about 15 minutes away. Our farthest trips afield were to Kapaa for the Coconut Festival (35 minutes), a tour of the chocolate co-op in Kilauea (50 minutes), and snorkeling at Waiakalua Beach (also 50 min). The only traffic problem on the whole island was Kapaa, other than that no issues.

If your flight is not until 10PM like ours ask for the late check-out. The relaxed last day was worth it. We were all sad to leave and I suspect after the kids have flown the nest we'll be back.
