Room to roam
Great place to stay with teenagers especially if they're animal lovers. Plenty of space for them to wander amongst the sculptures in the grounds. You will definitely need transport to stay here as it's a five minute drive to anywhere for basic provisions.
Quirky and comfortable art-filled house with three large bedrooms and two bathrooms.
Plenty to do and see locally although a few guides relating to local attractions would have been useful rather than having to schlep to the nearest Tourist
Giverny was wonderful - get there early for a few minutes of taking photos not filled with other tourists. Easy to park and lots of good places to eat lunch in Giverny village or take a picnic and eat on the large green a few minutes walk from the gardens.
I've been instructed by one of my children that we will need to return in a couple of years to visit the animals again!
Good value for the price.
Great property in private grounds.
Extremely impressed with the location, facilities and the friendliness and helpfulness of the owners, who couldn't have made us more welcome. The house has all the facilities you need and is well looked after. The location is perfect for visiting Giverny, and there are lots of other interesting places too within easy reach.
Beautiful estate, great house, incredible location
We really enjoyed our stay at La Maison des Portraits. Philippe and the rest of his crew were very friendly and helpful, and do a great job of balancing being attentive and letting you have your space, depending on what you are looking for. The house has three full bedrooms and two full bathrooms with modern showers (great water pressure, no limit to hot water). The living room and kitchen are spacious and fully equipped, and there is a wonderful group level porch/terrace with great outdoor furniture; perfect for mornings or afternoons/evenings listening to the birds, taking in views of the Seine and downtown Vernon across the river, and perhaps enjoying some cheese, meats and wine (as we did every day we were there). The property backs up to the Seine, and there is a great walking/running path right along the river that you have access too. We took full advantage of this and the daily runs along the river were magic; peaceful and engaging at the same time, with herons, ducks and swans all throughout that portion of the river.
Vernon is great too, and it is only a very short 5 minute drive. I spent a lot of time in Vernon and Giverny about 10 years ago, and was very impressed by some of the local improvements in the area since then. The changes are not overly commercial either, more like distinct upgrades that make both places even more beautiful. We visited the Chateau Bizy in Vernon as well, which was pretty cool. They had an Easter egg hunt on the Chateau grounds on both days during Easter weekend, which was a great surprise. Giverny is, of course, amazing. We rented bikes in Vernon and rode along the bike path to Giverny to visit Monet's Gardens, which makes for a great day.
This is a great property and we had a spectacular stay. We would, and most likely will, come back and stay here again.
We stayed at quite a few vacation rentals during our recent road tour of Northern France, and this one was by far the best. Spacious, easy to access, fully equipped, stylish and absolutely unique. The grounds were beautiful, and the german shepherd puppy was sooooo cute! Thanks Philippe.
Amazing... Definitely recommend this property!!
Accommodation is perfect.... Beautifully decorated, modern bathrooms and kitchen with quality soaps, towels etc, huge bedrooms with plenty of storage space and views of the grounds.
Amazing art works and sculptures all over the grounds... Excellent lighting outside at night time.
Only 10 mind from Monets Gardens and 5 mins to local shops.
All the staff were so helpful and friendly (including the 2 gorgeous dogs! ). The owner took the time to come and introduce himself and check our stay was going OK.
Would loved to have stayed longer!!
Excellent value money
10 minutes to Monet's garden
The house is located on a large private estate that is 10 minutes from Giverny and Monet's garden and 5 minutes from Vermont. The picturesque town of Petit Andeleys and Chateau Gilliard are 15 minutes away. This house is ideal for 2 couples or a family. It is comfortably furnished and well equipped. The owner responded quickly to my initial enquiry and he and/or his staff were available to answer questions during our stay. However, what makes this property special are the grounds, which we were free to explore and the owner's art collection that includes paintings and outdoor sculptures. In short this is a highly recommended place to stay when visiting the area.
