Love the 'Andy Griffith' small-town feel and the friendly people.
Fun to stay in a landmark Home on the Town Square where Mark Twain, Thomas Wolfe, Elvis Presley, and Christopher Reeves have previously stayed
Recently, my family and I were in town for a nearby wedding and we stayed at the NuWray. We loved our rooms - fabulously comfortable beds, beautiful antiques, spacious baths - and were so welcomed by the owners. I last visited in the mid-1960s and it was wonderful to have this return visit confirm that the NuWray is one of the best in the country. Don't miss it!
The NuWray Inn is THE BEST place for family or group gatherings! Our family rented the whole Inn for a family gathering and everyone loved it! The Innkeepers are cordial, welcoming and accommodating. This Inn is special in that all bedrooms are well-appointed and have a private bathroom. Our elderly family members found that the two handicap-accessible rooms were beautiful and met their needs. Cooking meals and eating together is big with our family, and this Inn is perfect for that. In the evenings, the dining room easily became a gathering place and game center that everyone enjoyed. Playing croquet and grilling steaks in the back yard was fun. The long row of rocking chairs on the front porch was everyone’s favorite place for our large family to talk with each other and enjoy each other and this beautiful Inn.
Special week end with my daughter to attend a book signing, play, and tour connected with The Parkway Playhouse's production of Sharyn McCrumb's book "The Ballad of Frankie Silver." The NuWray Inn was comfortable, charming, and clean. The staff was gracious & helpful. Loved the upstairs porch overlooking the town square. Plan a return visit.
We came to this inn almost by accident and stayed three nights. The lovely old building is well placed right in the town square and has gorgeous verandas to sit and take in the atmosphere of this proud little town. It was Memorial Day weekend so there was a lot going on. Nu Wray Is well run, the rooms were comfortable and it was a delight getting to know the family who bent over backwards to make our stay enjoyable.
Stayed at the Nu Wray for 9 nights. Charming, homey, historic, and delightful, complete with creaky floors and staircases. Loved the antique room furnishings, parlor on the second floor, the main porch as well as the outdoor balcony porch, the beautiful back yard sitting area, the keypad entrance enabling one to come and go at will, and the whole "help yourself" attitude. Enjoyed the full weekend breakfasts, which I wish were continuing. Perhaps the continental breakfasts I was told would be replacing them will be tasty--with healthy offerings such as bran muffins and fresh fruit? Also, I think it would be helpful to provide snacks, either for free or for purchase, such as granola bars, cookies, bananas, apples, etc. Too bad the dining room will be closing for dinners on weekends, due to cost and other constraints. But there are a number of good food options within walking distance.
...or as we now fondly refer to the NuWray... Our guest house! :). Delightful eclectic interiors and history, wonderful hosts and yummy comfy food! The gardens are magical. GO... ENJOY...INDULGE!!!
Stayed Friday night and really enjoyed our included breakfast Saturday morning. My wife and I slept really well all night and were not at all bothered by the "creakiness" of this venerable old Inn. For us, this Inn has great charm, and is in an excellent location on Main St. in the middle of town. The town square directly across from the Inn should be the location for Groundhog Day as seen in the Groundhog Day movie with Bill Murray. It gets my vote and support. After all, Elvis and Superman stayed at this Inn, and would have made great Prognosticators themselves!
