Candler Cabin Rental Photos and Description

2 bedroom, 1 bathroom cabin on forested lot at the base of Mount Pisgah

Rustic and inviting cabin along a lovely mountain creek, borders Pisgah National Forest. You will love relaxing on the deck under the trees listening to the peaceful sounds of our creek. Inside your private retreat you will find a full kitchen, comfortable dining and living areas including TV, Blue Ray player and free high-speed wireless Internet access. Spend the cool evenings in front of a cozy fire. Nestled at the base of Mount Pisgah, your backyard is over 80,000 acres of protected National Forest. Enjoy hiking, mountain biking, and long nature walks just outside the front door. Take a leisurely drive along the Blue Ridge Parkway, just four miles from the cabin. At Creekstone Cabin you're only a 20-minute drive to Asheville and the best the area has to offer in attractions, entertainment, dining, shopping, outdoor activities, and more.

INSIDE THE CABIN

The upstairs loft is accessed by a narrow spiral staircase to the catwalk (see pictures) leading to the bed area at one end and and the dressing area at the other. Please mind your head up here as the ceiling is vaulted and the highest clearance is only 6 feet. The bed faces creek side, letting you drift off to sleep to its soothing sound. When you awaken, you will find yourself just below canopy level looking down on the moss and rhododendron-covered back yard; a great way to greet your day. The downstairs bedroom has a double bed and is also faces creek side so everyone gets lulled to sleep by the burbling creek.

The kitchen is fully equipped with cookware, bakeware and your serving/dining needs. The kitchen has a microwave, toaster, mixer, utensils, paper and cleaning products, and full sized stove and range; everything you need to prepare a great meal. In the cabinet above the microwave you will find growlers to a couple of our local breweries and we hope you put them to good use!

The living area is a great place to relax for conversation or a good book in front of a crackling fire. Enjoy a movie from our library or stream from the cabin's Netflix account or your own streaming service via ROKU. Use your mobile device to stream your own music playlists through the Bluetooth equipped surround sound system. My cabin provides a great blend of rustic feel with the modern conveniences of the digital age.

The well lit bathroom has modern fixtures, and offers a shower/tub combination. While small it has what you need, including hair dryer, soaps and shampoo in case you run short, and all your linen/paper needs.

OUTSIDE

The three season deck is just about every guest's favorite feature; a spacious 16' x 20' with gas grill, teak furniture, tiki torches and deck umbrella complete with lights! Great for entertaining, reading, watching the humming birds, goldfinches, and cardinals all to the backdrop of the burbling creek. To sit out here wrapped in the nurturing embrace of the woods will renew your strength and replenish your spirit.

Off the back side of the deck is a path that leads across the creek and into the national forest. Enjoy a short hike to Stonybrook Creek (1/3 mile) or a 3 mile round trip journey up to the abandoned logging road on the ridge line above the cabin. Take a walk down the road and explore the modest homes and cabins in the area.

The Pisgah National Forest and DuPont Forest in the area offer more hiking than a person could possibly do in a lifetime. You will find hiking guide books and maps at the cabin that can help you decide which hikes are right for you. The Blue Ridge Parkway is 4 miles up the road from the cabin offering breath taking views, scenic drives, and (you guessed it!) plenty of hiking.

GRATITUDE

I'd like to say thank you for taking the time to consider booking my cabin. This truly is a special place that is precious to me; I miss living here every single day. My intent is to return and make Creekstone Cabin my permanent residence in 2020, maybe earlier if I'm very lucky. It has been a joy for me to share the cabin with like-minded people, looking for respite from life's demands. I am truly grateful to all my guests; you make it possible for me to hold on to this rustic gem.

-John

About John

I'm a forty-something engineer who grew up living all across the US; from Hawaii to Florida. While serving my country, I was able to continue my travels and experience different cultures and visit many amazing places. I have a great appreciation of life's simple pleasures and I believe Creekstone Cabin is one of those special places where you can reconnect with nature and truly relax.

John purchased this cabin in 1998

Why John chose Asheville Area

The cabin was my primary home for many years. I've since moved to Raleigh to pursue career opportunities but I could not bring myself to sell the cabin. One stay and you'll understand why; it's a small slice of heaven complete with a babbling brook to lull you to sleep. This truly is a rustic gem and I hope that all who stay at Creekstone Cabin will love it as much as I do.

What makes this cabin unique

Enjoy the big stone fireplace with wood burning stove to warm up by. Upstairs loft-style bedroom feels like your staying in a tree house and both bedrooms face the creek side of the house. The deck is perfect for enjoying your favorite beverage while watching the hummingbirds and goldfinches. Take a hike in the Pisgah National Forest following the path right from the deck! There are modern touches that I've done my best to merge with the rustic - Surround sound with blue tooth connectivity, high speed internet, LED TV, and all modern appliances.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We felt at home in a vacation-y sort of way, like we had been coming here for years. The cabin is comfy and has everything you might need, including the burbling creek for a lullaby.

Cozy Creekstone

  • 5 of 5

This was my second stay at the Creekstone Cabin. Last year I stayed with my mom and new I had to come back with my significant other. We went for a mini-honeymoon and it was the perfect place. We were able to do a lot of what we like to do at home... watch tv and read, while also doing some hiking. That's what's so great about this cabin. You never have to leave while you're there. We brought our own food to cook in the well-stocked kitchen. You get the best of both worlds... you get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, yet can be at a store in 5 minutes when you realize you forgot your hairbrush! (: The owner has done a wonderful job of making it a home-away-from-home for anyone who ventures to Creekstone. Can't wait to go back!

Welcoming cabin...

  • 5 of 5

Our stay in this lovely and cozy cabin brought peace and calm to our visits. A unique blend of furnishings was interesting and fun. Loved the antique sofa. Our host was extraordinary in providing information about the area and making us feel at home. The trail outside the cabin lead to an interesting walk in the gorgeous fall weather. I'm looking forward to a return visit.

Owner's Response: Thank you Dan & Jenny! I'm so glad to hear that you had a great time. The antique sofa is circa 1860s and you can see a similar one outfit with yellow fabric in the movie, Gone With the Wind. I do hope you join the Creekstone family of repeat guests! Best regards, John

Cozy, clean charm

  • 5 of 5

Had a lovely time in this cabin on a girls' vacation with a dear friend. We were charmed by the setting, decor and coziness of this place. It feels secluded but not "scary secluded"! :-) The deck was spacious and I don't know how we never managed to have a meal out there. The kitchen was stocked with all the essentials . Everything was in a logical place and we didn't waste lots of time searching for things. The TV was easy to figure out and I loved that the flat-screen swiveled away from the wall for use. My favorite feature was the upstairs, where I slept. Less spry folks may not appreciate the spiral staircase but climbing those steps made me feel like a kid again. What youngster doesn't love the novelty of a spiral staircase? There were nightstands and swiveling reading lights on either side of my queen bed. A catwalk led to the other side of the upstairs where there was a dresser, lamp, chair, low closet and room to dress. I did bump my head on a ceiling beam but I wasn't paying attention. Sleeping up there was so nice -- cozy, charming and so comfortable. And yes, fun.

We both really liked the bathroom. My friend especially liked the shower. I am squeamish about the cleanliness of strange places and I found nothing to complain about at Creekstone Cabin. I even went barefoot!

The owner was quick to reply to emails/texts and was pleasant to deal with. My friend left her retainer behind after our stay and back in Florida less than a week later, she already has it back!

Plusses: Clean, homey, comfortable, did I mention clean?

Minuses: hmm, I guess tall folks might find the upstairs ceiling height challenging.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the wonderful review, Martha! I truly enjoy hearing about my guests' experience at Creekstone Cabin. Isn't the upstairs great? And you're right about it bringing out the child in you again. It feels like sleeping in a treehouse; dozing off to the tranquil sound of the burbling creek. We work hard to make sure the cabin is clean and tidy for every guest and am happy to hear it was up to your standards. Thank you again for your detailed and wonderful review of your time at Creekstone Cabin. We'd love to have you join our family of repeat guests. I hope you visit us the next time you need to escape the constant gaze of the Florida Sun! Best regards, John

Nice place close to Blue Ridge Parkway

  • 4 of 5

Enjoyed our mid-July stay at this quaint cabin in the woods. The cabin is well maintained and very clean. The kitchen is stocked well. The beds are comfortable. The deck is a very nice place to hang out and listen to the creek. We took full advantage of the new grill on the deck! A short drive put us on the Parkway near Mt. Pisgah. We very much enjoyed the hiking trails and waterfalls nearby. There was a bounty of mushrooms of all colors and sizes along the trail behind the cabin. Very much needed an identification guide! This is a nice place to stay in a mostly quiet neighborhood with the forest at the back door. I would have given it five stars if there had been a firepit! Also, the neighborhood hunting dogs bark and howl, but that isn't the cabin owner's fault. Would definitely stay here again!

Owner's Response: Thank you for the great review, Jan! I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay. I've given a fire pit much consideration. The deciding factor is there is too much risk. I'm surrounded by national forest and have neighbors to consider; it only takes a short lapse in supervision to lose it all. We'd love to have you back on your next visit to the mountains and will keep the porch light on for you! -John

Fantastic hideaway!

  • 5 of 5

We greatly enjoyed our stay and will definitely hope to return again one day. The cabin was cozy and well-stocked with everything we could need. The cleanliness of the place was beyond many hotel experiences we've had and yet it felt very homey and welcoming. John and Beth were great in being sure our questions were answered and we were able to make the most of our vacation time. Definitely a highlight of our vacation travels!!
