Overview

About the property

2 bedroom, 1 bathroom cabin on forested lot at the base of Mount Pisgah

Rustic and inviting cabin along a lovely mountain creek, borders Pisgah National Forest. You will love relaxing on the deck under the trees listening to the peaceful sounds of our creek. Inside your private retreat you will find a full kitchen, comfortable dining and living areas including TV, Blue Ray player and free high-speed wireless Internet access. Spend the cool evenings in front of a cozy fire.

Nestled at the base of Mount Pisgah, your backyard is over 80,000 acres of protected National Forest. Enjoy hiking, mountain biking, and long nature walks just outside the front door. Take a leisurely drive along the Blue Ridge Parkway, just four miles from the cabin. At Creekstone Cabin you're only a 20-minute drive to Asheville and the best the area has to offer in attractions, entertainment, dining, shopping, outdoor activities, and more.

INSIDE THE CABIN

The upstairs loft is accessed by a narrow spiral staircase to the catwalk (see pictures) leading to the bed area at one end and and the dressing area at the other. Please mind your head up here as the ceiling is vaulted and the highest clearance is only 6 feet. The bed faces creek side, letting you drift off to sleep to its soothing sound. When you awaken, you will find yourself just below canopy level looking down on the moss and rhododendron-covered back yard; a great way to greet your day. The downstairs bedroom has a double bed and is also faces creek side so everyone gets lulled to sleep by the burbling creek.

The kitchen is fully equipped with cookware, bakeware and your serving/dining needs. The kitchen has a microwave, toaster, mixer, utensils, paper and cleaning products, and full sized stove and range; everything you need to prepare a great meal. In the cabinet above the microwave you will find growlers to a couple of our local breweries and we hope you put them to good use!

The living area is a great place to relax for conversation or a good book in front of a crackling fire. Enjoy a movie from our library or stream from the cabin's Netflix account or your own streaming service via ROKU. Use your mobile device to stream your own music playlists through the Bluetooth equipped surround sound system. My cabin provides a great blend of rustic feel with the modern conveniences of the digital age.

The well lit bathroom has modern fixtures, and offers a shower/tub combination. While small it has what you need, including hair dryer, soaps and shampoo in case you run short, and all your linen/paper needs.

OUTSIDE

The three season deck is just about every guest's favorite feature; a spacious 16' x 20' with gas grill, teak furniture, tiki torches and deck umbrella complete with lights! Great for entertaining, reading, watching the humming birds, goldfinches, and cardinals all to the backdrop of the burbling creek. To sit out here wrapped in the nurturing embrace of the woods will renew your strength and replenish your spirit.

Off the back side of the deck is a path that leads across the creek and into the national forest. Enjoy a short hike to Stonybrook Creek (1/3 mile) or a 3 mile round trip journey up to the abandoned logging road on the ridge line above the cabin. Take a walk down the road and explore the modest homes and cabins in the area.

The Pisgah National Forest and DuPont Forest in the area offer more hiking than a person could possibly do in a lifetime. You will find hiking guide books and maps at the cabin that can help you decide which hikes are right for you. The Blue Ridge Parkway is 4 miles up the road from the cabin offering breath taking views, scenic drives, and (you guessed it!) plenty of hiking.

GRATITUDE

I'd like to say thank you for taking the time to consider booking my cabin. This truly is a special place that is precious to me; I miss living here every single day. My intent is to return and make Creekstone Cabin my permanent residence in 2020, maybe earlier if I'm very lucky. It has been a joy for me to share the cabin with like-minded people, looking for respite from life's demands. I am truly grateful to all my guests; you make it possible for me to hold on to this rustic gem.

-John

About John

I'm a forty-something engineer who grew up living all across the US; from Hawaii to Florida. While serving my country, I was able to continue my travels and experience different cultures and visit many amazing places. I have a great appreciation of life's simple pleasures and I believe Creekstone Cabin is one of those special places where you can reconnect with nature and truly relax.

John purchased this cabin in 1998

Why John chose Candler

The cabin was my primary residence for many years. I've since moved to Raleigh to pursue career opportunities but I could not bring myself to sell the cabin. One stay and you'll understand why; it's a small slice of heaven complete with a babbling brook to lull you to sleep. This truly is a rustic gem and I hope that all who stay at Creekstone Cabin will love it as much as I do.

What makes this cabin unique

Enjoy the big stone fireplace with wood burning stove to warm up by. Upstairs loft-style bedroom feels like your staying in a tree house and both bedrooms face the creek side of the house. The deck is perfect for enjoying your favorite beverage while watching the hummingbirds and goldfinches. Take a hike in the Pisgah National Forest following the path right from the deck! There are modern touches that I've done my best to merge with the rustic - Surround sound with blue tooth connectivity, high speed internet, LED TV, and all modern appliances.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We felt at home in a vacation-y sort of way, like we had been coming here for years. The cabin is comfy and has everything you might need, including the burbling creek for a lullaby.

Quaint, well-stocked, and clean cabin close to Asheviille. Small but efficient living space. Great helps for hiking and area attractions.

Adorable & cozy!

  • 5 of 5

We just recently stayed at this adorable cabin and were delighted by its coziness and all what was provided. The location is beautiful and the access to diverse attractions/activities was easy and very accessible. The owner was so terrific to deal with! He was so welcoming and provided so many information about the area. Beth, the housekeeper was so wonderful as well!

We can only recommend this rental! Thank you for everything.

Simply beautiful!

  • 5 of 5

This was the first time that we ever used VRBO and it was absolutely everything we could have wanted in a little cabin in the woods. First of all, the property is so well maintained. The inside and the outside of the cabin are so inviting. We loved sitting out on the deck at night. The cabin has everything you could need. The inside of the cabin is cozy with a rustic feel but has all the comforts of home. The caretaker, Beth, was so lovely. She gave us some great information about the area. If you are looking for a relaxing getaway this is definitely a property that fits the bill. We can't wait to go back there!

Cabin in the woods.

  • 5 of 5

This quaint, comfortable, and cozy little cabin was perfect for a birthday getaway. We were surrounded by the sounds of birds in the trees and water running in the stream behind the house. We especially appreciated the attention to detail by the owner and caretaker...There were little extras tucked here and there which made the stay so pleasant. Hiking in the Pisgah National Forest was a delight and the peace and quiet of the area was a blessing. I can't think of a thing that would have improved our visit. Thank you John and Beth for your wonderful hospitality.
