My husband and I both have very busy schedules that include lots of travel and the day-to-day requirements of running our own companies. We come to Lopez to rejuvinate and spend time with our family. I grew up in Seattle and have a deep appreciation for all the Pacific Northwest has to offer. We love to fish, hike, kayak, snoop around the village, cook, and spend time here unplugged from the demands of our hectic lives. This is our dream house and we are sure you will enjoy its charms as much as we do.
We were attending Lopez Island for a family reunion and this home was a perfect place to say for our two large families. The kitchen was beautiful. The bedrooms were very comfortable and the living space was very spacious. There was a beautiful deck and wonderful hot tub overlooking the beautiful West side of the island, creating exquisite opportunities to view the sunsets each evening. Access to the private beach was great for the kids - allowing us to see wonderful wildlife- Eagles, sea lions, and deer. There was also a very nice lawn space that allowed us to play outside games as a family. Great place to stay!
Our family reunion was a huge success due in part to excellent weather, orcas whales, bald eagles, bunnies (we had 4 small children), deer and a terrific house (with among other helpful things-2 dish washers).
Only suggestion would be to have better knives.
It will be our hope to return soon for another gathering.
Special thanks to the housekeeper, Terry.
The Channel house was huge and gave all 12 of us plenty of space to spread out. The kitchen and bar was stocked with everything someone would need to cook and make drinks. The outside area was great for relaxing in the hot tub, starting a bonfire, and playing lawn games. The steep stair decent and ascent was made worth it by the views from the water. Highly recommend.
An absolutely gorgeous property by the ocean!
Three families (mine, sister-in-law's, grandparents) came together at this wonderful house and had a great time! Large, spacious, clean and packed to the gills with almost everything you'd need -- large modern kitchen, appliances of all sorts (e.g., keurig and "regular" coffee makers), hot tub, huge deck and lots of outdoor furniture, gas bbq, etc. It's harder to think of what they didn't have!
Lots of sleeping arrangements possible -- a kids bunkhouse (for 4), plus 3 large bedrooms and even sofas. Linen is clean, comfortable and fits the décor. A huge plus: enough bathrooms to avoid emergencies and get people through so they can get on with their day!
The property is very well maintained and landscaped, and all sorts of small wild animals can be found: rabbits, tree frogs, etc. Neighbours are quiet (but helpful if they think you need it) and there's excellent privacy from all sides.
Only a few small issues:
- the stairs to the beach need to be either better maintained (especially the railings) or replaced,
- someone has to go through the laundry room fridge and throw stuff out,
- darts need to be fixed/replaced,
- a guidebook for the house is needed so things aren't missed/forgotten/not done,
- better trimming of plants along the driveway for hanging branches, etc.
One larger issue: if you absolutely MUST keep in contact with the outside world via data or mobile, then you'll have a hard time. We had no (useful) cell reception unless we went down to the beach and the WiFi signal is pretty good, but throughput (probably due to the provider) is poor at best, i.e., lots of lag and dropped connections.
A great place to stay that gives you so much that you can see/do Lopez on your terms and at your best!
I've been vacationing on Lopez with family for the past 20+ years and our stay at the Channel House was far and away the best! The view and secluded beach can't be beat. The master bedroom suite and cozy living room below is an oasis when you want an escape from family. We enjoyed using the kayaks and playing badmitten in the huge yard. The 5 acres allowed plenty of room for our 3 Labradors to play and explore. The hot tub worked flawlessly and could hold 6 comfortably. Even when the weather turned, the collection of movies, games and WiFi kept us entertained for hours. The gas heat lamp on the porch and huge fire pit allowed us to relax for hours into the night. All the beds and furniture were very comfortable.
Hope we can stay here again next summer!
I stayed in The Channel House for two nights with a group of close friends and we had a great time! It was hard for us to leave. We enjoyed the hot tub, the outside heaters and sitting on the deck enjoying nature and a large table to gather around to share conversation and memories to last a lifetime!
