About Sandra and Martin Button

My husband and I both have very busy schedules that include lots of travel and the day-to-day requirements of running our own companies. We come to Lopez to rejuvinate and spend time with our family. I grew up in Seattle and have a deep appreciation for all the Pacific Northwest has to offer. We love to fish, hike, kayak, snoop around the village, cook, and spend time here unplugged from the demands of our hectic lives. This is our dream house and we are sure you will enjoy its charms as much as we do.

Large and Beautiful House

  • 5 of 5

The Channel house was huge and gave all 12 of us plenty of space to spread out. The kitchen and bar was stocked with everything someone would need to cook and make drinks. The outside area was great for relaxing in the hot tub, starting a bonfire, and playing lawn games. The steep stair decent and ascent was made worth it by the views from the water. Highly recommend.

Wonderful Luxury House by the Ocean

  • 5 of 5

An absolutely gorgeous property by the ocean!

Three families (mine, sister-in-law's, grandparents) came together at this wonderful house and had a great time! Large, spacious, clean and packed to the gills with almost everything you'd need -- large modern kitchen, appliances of all sorts (e.g., keurig and "regular" coffee makers), hot tub, huge deck and lots of outdoor furniture, gas bbq, etc. It's harder to think of what they didn't have!

Lots of sleeping arrangements possible -- a kids bunkhouse (for 4), plus 3 large bedrooms and even sofas. Linen is clean, comfortable and fits the décor. A huge plus: enough bathrooms to avoid emergencies and get people through so they can get on with their day!

The property is very well maintained and landscaped, and all sorts of small wild animals can be found: rabbits, tree frogs, etc. Neighbours are quiet (but helpful if they think you need it) and there's excellent privacy from all sides.

Only a few small issues:

- the stairs to the beach need to be either better maintained (especially the railings) or replaced,

- someone has to go through the laundry room fridge and throw stuff out,

- darts need to be fixed/replaced,

- a guidebook for the house is needed so things aren't missed/forgotten/not done,

- better trimming of plants along the driveway for hanging branches, etc.

One larger issue: if you absolutely MUST keep in contact with the outside world via data or mobile, then you'll have a hard time. We had no (useful) cell reception unless we went down to the beach and the WiFi signal is pretty good, but throughput (probably due to the provider) is poor at best, i.e., lots of lag and dropped connections.

A great place to stay that gives you so much that you can see/do Lopez on your terms and at your best!

Owner's Response: Thanks so much for your wonderful review, we are so glad that you enjoyed the house!! A few notes about the small issues....every spring we do maintenance to our stairs in preparation for the rental season. I will have our handyman take a look at them this week. The laundry room fridge is normally for the owners use only, but we will have our house manager take a look at it, as well as the guidebook and the tree trimming. She will also replace the dart tips. As to the data and mobile world....Lopez Island has little or no cellular reception, so it is good to plan ahead for that. We do have the best wireless service available at the house and it works fine for smaller downloads. Again thanks for the review!!

Gorgeous Island Retreat

  • 5 of 5

I've been vacationing on Lopez with family for the past 20+ years and our stay at the Channel House was far and away the best! The view and secluded beach can't be beat. The master bedroom suite and cozy living room below is an oasis when you want an escape from family. We enjoyed using the kayaks and playing badmitten in the huge yard. The 5 acres allowed plenty of room for our 3 Labradors to play and explore. The hot tub worked flawlessly and could hold 6 comfortably. Even when the weather turned, the collection of movies, games and WiFi kept us entertained for hours. The gas heat lamp on the porch and huge fire pit allowed us to relax for hours into the night. All the beds and furniture were very comfortable.

Hope we can stay here again next summer!

Lovely Lopez

  • 5 of 5

I stayed in The Channel House for two nights with a group of close friends and we had a great time! It was hard for us to leave. We enjoyed the hot tub, the outside heaters and sitting on the deck enjoying nature and a large table to gather around to share conversation and memories to last a lifetime!

Thanks again!

Was everything I was hoping

  • 5 of 5

Channel House is gorgeous! A group of nine of us stayed there to celebrate a birthday and everything exceeded our expectations. The house set up is great for entertaining (darts were so fun!) and the kitchen is fully stocked. The wrap around deck is huge and would be great in the summer. The fire pit and stairs to the beach are so charming, and the hot tub was clean. Small touches were very nice - tons of movies to choose from, better than average bedding, and towel warming racks!

The only thing of note was that the listing says there's a pull out sofa and that it sleeps 12, but at some point that pull out was removed so it actually only sleeps 10. A bit of confusion with my group since it was all adult couples and we'd planned on using the sofa, but not a huge deal. We hope to return!

Owner's Response: Dear Sarah: We are terribly sorry about the removal of the sofa bed..... Sandra and I stayed there just a couple of weeks ago with a full house and the sofa bed was so broken-down we had it removed but forgot to remove it from the VRBO listing. Unfortunately you had already booked the house before this happened. We did however send up a luxury queen sized air matress before your stay.... was it not there when you arrived? The sofa-bed has now been removed from the listing until we replace it which we plan to do shortly. Other than that we are delighted you liked our home. Martin and Sandra Button. Owners.
