Java Kai is an Authentic Indonesian home and is the larger of two Indonesian homes on a private one acre estate. Enjoy the warmth of this beautifully crafted, two level Minahasa style island home. This home was built in Sulawesi, Indonesia, shipped to Oahu, and rebuilt. in 1995. This private property is beautifully landscaped from the entry to the upper gardens and lily pond, all the way down the great lawn to the shoreline where Kaneohe Bay beckons. The beach here is a non-swimming beach. The great lawn is approximately 300 feet long and perfect for hosting weddings and events. Java Kai is perched up on the highest point of the property and has a commanding panoramic view of Kaneohe Bay and the Koolau Mountain range. There is an elegant 1100 Sq ft porcelain tiled deck which wraps around the ocean side of both Indonesian homes. The lower level of Java Kai has a private covered 700 sq ft.deck and lanai just outside the lower bedrooms. Enjoy fabulous ocean and garden views from the entire lower lanai lounging area and lower deck.

Java Kai layout:

On the lower level there are two bedrooms. The master bedrm has a queen bed and large walk in closet. The 2nd bedrm has a cal king bed with large closet. Both bedrooms have ocean views and access to the large private deck and lanai. The spacious lower full bath has two sinks, lots of counterspace, shower/tub and bidet. The large fully stocked laundry room rounds out the lower level of Java Kai.

From the entry on to the upper 1100 Sq Ft tiled deck one enters Java Kai through double doors onto the great room with open beam ceilings and open dining, living, gourmet kitchen and breakfast bar. On the main level there is a third bedroom with Cal King bed with its own bathroom. The appointments in the kitchen are granite and mahogany. Furnishings are Indonesian and island style. The floors are ceramic tiled througfhout and ceiling fans keep you cool in every room.

Parking is plentiful.

Location and proximity to surroundings:

Java Kai is located just off of the main shoreline highway on the lush windward side of the island of Oahu in the area known as Waikane. Koolau Shopping center is a 7 min drive to restaurants, more theaters, gas, supermarket.. Kaneohe Bay Shopping Center is another 5 minute drive with plenty of restaurants, Safeway, two drug stores, Blockbuster, Starbucks, and Jamba Juice. Across fm this center is the Windward Mall with Macy's, Sears, restaurants, many great shops, and movie theater complex. The next town south is Kailua at 20-25 min. drive with lots of great restaurants, shopping, and world class windsurfing, sandy family beaches. Heading north from Java Kai 3 miles find a secluded and very protected safe swimming/snorkeling beach at Kualoa Beach Park. Also find Kualoa Ranch, with 4000 acres, horseback riding, ATV, Helicopter, cultural tours and more. Polynesian Cultural center is 20 min. with great entertainment, education, firedancing competition, shows, and I max theater.

More surroundings, North:

Continue north at 40 min to famous big surf beaches, Sunset & Pipeline. Catch surf competition in the winter months when monster swells come in summer snorkel crystal clear calmer waters here. Walk the boardwalk from Sunset to Pipeline and Shark's Cove in Pupukea for some great snorkeling. Pupukea has a shopping center and snorkel gear for rent. Continue another 10 minutes to famous Waimea Beach Park or Audubon's Waimea Botanical Gardens for great hiking in world class gardens to the Waimea Waterfall. Shops and restaurant are also available here. Another 5 minutes will find you in historic Haleiwa Town. There is plenty of shopping, dining, and fun to be had here.

Sunsets on the north shores are stunning. At the end of a fun filled day you can come home to Java Kai and unwind in your own oasis.

Carport, terrace, garden, outdoor grill, cooler large, beach towels, hair dryer, ceiling fans. This estate consists of two Indonesian homes on a one acre oceanfront property on Kaneohe Bay. The 1100 sq ft upper lanai is elegantly porcelain tiled. The lower 700 Sq ft lanai is concrete extending onto wood deck outside lower bedrooms with lounge area and cool tradewinds and great views of the garden and ocean.

Amazing sunrise and mountain views

My family of 5 adults stayed at Java Kai for 10 nights and we were extremely comfortable. The view from the deck and the shore line is incredible we woke every morning to capture sunrise. The location is super quiet an awesome county escape far away from the rat race and the birds in the morning are delightful while there is a little road noise you can hear from the top bedroom it is nothing to worry about and way less than we have at home. We rented a kayak and paddled out and around Chinaman Hat Island. The unit has great amounts of dishes and cooking pans.

Oahu Magic – Christmas week 2016

Sometimes, on a vacation, magic happens as in finding this destination for which we thanked the powers above, the family who rents this enchanting place, and the one who made our trip happen.

Hale O’Bali and Java Kai are two charming Indonesian wood homes directly next to each other, sharing a gated secure entrance, a huge tiled wrap-around lanai, and a view that is perfect. This is just right for the extended family or good friends who want a secluded get-away with space - two kitchens, four bedrooms and pullouts in each living area with combined 3 baths when renting BOTH homes together; otherwise, know that you may have another group in the neighboring house but the grounds are so large, it won’t matter. To drink coffee, wine, or have a meal sitting outside watching the view, the ambience of this private estate with its tropical landscape, sprawling lawn reaching down to the calm waters of Kaneohe Bay looking right at China Man’s Hat is beyond compare – it was paradise. If our group had just stayed at this location every day in Oahu, using our rented paddleboards, cooking fresh ahi bought from a neighborhood home, eating veges and fruits from the roadside stand down the way, and enjoying the orchid farm within walking distance to this home, we would have been entirely pleased. So relaxing, no need to go anywhere else. The homes are comfortable, very well-stocked, clean, and fun to be in. The furnishings are Hawaiian style, lived-in or dated, and in some cases, fascinating, like the massive king-size carved beds, old chest, and artwork. The authentic home design, ceiling and roof is fascinating. Geckos (some inside!), green lizards, chickens, birds, and turtles are all here to enjoy. The Ko'olau Mountains tower over this magnificent view as wisps of clouds drift in and out of the peaks. This is a magical place within fair driving distance to both busy Waikiki, and the North Shore. But be warned – you’ll need to tear yourself away from this rental for your day trips, and upon return, you will smile. Here, you have a top tourist destination to yourself. This is NOT for one who must have ultramodern decor with all new everything, air conditioning, or “fancy” restaurants nearby. For us, the local Waikane Store, Kenekes, and the Poi Factory were enough to satisfy our needs – authentic Hawaiian fare, and a general store with the necessities. Contact with the owner and rental process was direct and personal.

Convenient, spacious with lovely oceanfront view

The property is convenient to southern Oahu as well as North Shore. We found it clean and comfortable for our family of 5. Clear directions and instructions were provided by the owner. She may want to provide instructions for the garbage disposal in the kitchen. It was unplugged, and given the number of switches for fans and lights, was somewhat confusing at first.The kitchen is adequately stocked for meal prep--cookware, silverware, serving. Seating for 4 at the dining table, but seating for six would have been appreciated. Of the three bedrooms, the two downstairs are quite comfortable and free of highway noise. The upstairs bedroom is subjected to constant highway noise, and is the reason I cannot give this property a higher rating. I would recommend this property to the right party--those who only require two bedrooms. There are adequate towels and linens, plus a washer/dryer. Outside is pleasant--both the deck and the downstairs lanai. The star fruit tree had ripe fruit, some of which was dropping and rotting. Some might find this unpleasant--both odor and sight--on a seasonal basis. The views were pleasant from the living/dining room, kitchen as well as the deck. Lawn games would be fantastic on the gigantic lawn--frisbee, croquet or badminton.

This property is very convenient to the Polynesian Cultural Center, Kualoa Ranch and the North Shore. We found several beaches within easy driving distance. Everyone recommends Seven Brothers restaurant--there are two locations relatively close. The food is quite tasty. The Shrimp Shack seemed a bit spendy, but is tasty as well.

We did visit Pearl Harbor--be sure to check out the web site for details. We opted to see all of the sites via the Pearl Harbor Passport deal. In hind sight, given how much we've seen on the West Coast (ships, submarines and aviation museums), we would opt to just visit the Arizona memorial and associated museum. The tickets are free for those, with an assigned time to visit the Arizona Memorial. You won't know your time until you obtain tickets; if you arrive early, your time will be earlier in the day. We went in at about 9:30, and our scheduled visit time was 12:45. Do try the pineapple soft serve at the Dole Plantation.

We stopped at Costco in Honolulu on day 1 of our trip. The parking lot is CRAZY to negotiate. We found other grocery stores, one south and two north of the property. Bring your own bags!

Overall, this is a good home base for exploring Oahu.

Owner's Response: So glad you enjoyed your stay. The dining table is actually equipped with 4 padded wood chairs and a bench for an additional 2 adults so it is a table designed to seat 6 adults comfortably. The property is located right off the main artery called Kamehameha Hwy which is the route that circles this entire side of the island. The house is set back over 100 feet from the shoulder of this roadway and there are 2 sets of rock walls between the road and the house which helps buffer road noise. We agree the lower bedrooms are actually very quiet because they are insulated into a slope but the upper bedroom does face the inland mountains and the main roadway so there is going to be some road noise at the upper bedroom. We do encourage our guests to help themselves when any of the fruit trees are bearing fruit such as the starfruit tree and the mango trees! The yard men come twice a month to mow and the clean up any green waste to keep the lawn beautiful for our guests!

Amazing property outstanding views, needs to be cleaned before arrival

This property is amazing and the home is unique. Outstanding views and gorgeous lawn. However the property should have been cleaned before our arrival, the house had obviously been sitting empty for quite a while before our arrival, there was build up all throughout the house especially on the floors. Most disgusting was a large colony of dead spiders in the down stairs bathroom, at least 20. Also the down stairs shower did not work, the part to switch on the shower was completely missing. This makes getting everyone ready in the morning a bit difficult with only one working shower for 5 people.

Owner's Response: Hello Ron, Sorry the house was thoroughly cleaned but did sit for a few weeks and the pre arrival mop through by the cleaners was missed. Glad the spiders were all dead because we do have routine quarterly pest control service that handles those pests. Anytime someone sees any insects if they let us know we have the pest controllers come right away to take care of it! Wished you had asked about the downstairs shower as it has a pull spout, rather than the conventional plunger knob, which you pull down on to send the water into the shower mode. The shower works great downstairs! So glad you enjoyed the spectacular scenery and views! Best wishes for the new year to you and your family. Leilani

Simply amazing

Group of 6, enjoyed ever last minute of our stay. House was clean, the style of the interior was awesome, all the facilities we needed were there and then some. We had an amazing time, next time I come to Hawaii I will stay there again!

Java Kai is away from it all but when you want city action Honolulu and Waikiki is only 35-45 minutes away. Airport is 30-35 min drive. Nearest grocery store is Times Supermarket at 7 min drive south to Koolau Shopping Center. There is a MacDonalds on the entry as well as Consolidated movie theaters, gas, and other restaurants, shops. Kaneohe town is less than 15 min drive and has lots more shopping options and the Windward Mall. Kaneohe Bay Shopping Center has Safeway, Longs, Walgreens, Blockbuster, multiple restaurants, Jamba Juice, Starbucks, banking, and gas station. The mall has Macy's, Sears, food court, restaurants, great shopping, and Consolidated movie theaters. Kailua Beach and town is 25 min drive south. Kailua has great eateries, shopping, and sandy family beaches and is world renowned for great windsurfing. Within 10 minutes drive visit Senator Fong's Plantation, Hart and Tagami Galeries for amazing art and gardens in Kahaluu, Byodo Temple, in Temple Valley.
