About Julie & Jory Kaplan

Jory & Julie 'Jewlz' Kaplan: Jory and I work in the medical field in Redding, CA. We escape to Ashland as often as we can to relax. We enjoy quiet time and travel with our children. We love to walk around Lithia Park and go to the theatre with our family. We cherish older homes and are very excited to own a 1900 Historic Ashland Home and to share it with you.

Julie & Jory Kaplan purchased this house in 2011

Why Julie & Jory Kaplan chose Ashland

We hope you enjoy our lovely Victorian Vacation home! This home has drawn our attention for years, and is on the National Register of Historic Places. It was called the 'Coleman-Mulit' home, and was built in 1900 by Mr. John Coleman.

The Register states, 'John Coleman purchased this lot from G.W. Gillette in 1899 and soon thereafter the local newspaper noted, 'John Coleman will immediately build on his Church Street lot. He plans a substantial residence and foundations are already underway.' {Ashland Tidings, 22-Jun-1899, 3:1} Coleman, operated a canning plant in Ashland with his brother. He sold this house in 1904. In 1906 Lloyd and Gertrude Mulit purchased the property, which they retained as their residence until 1924. The Coleman-Mulit House is a large two-story vernacular ell with a projecting front gable, accented by a full-height projecting bay. Modest Queen-Anne detailing is evident in the complex form, eave bracketry and the 'pent' roof'

What makes this house unique

Luxurious amenities throughout this home. Advantages of renting an entire home:: Unlike a B&B or hotel, you have an entire Victorian home to yourself! Cook in the full kitchen or walk around the corner to enjoy amazing restaurants and attractions.

Wonderful stay

  • 5 of 5

Loved our stay. The house was well stocked and beautifully maintained. We loved how close it is to downtown and the serene backyard as well. Had fun watching deer in the backyard. Thanks Julie and Jory!

Great location, nice stay at the Victorian Secret

  • 4 of 5

Overall, our stay was great. The house was cute, spacious and clean. The kitchen was well equipped and light filled. Despite some rain during our week in Ashland we were able to enjoy the lovely backyard a few times. The location of the house is very convenient to shops/theater/restaurants but also quiet. There was room for 2 cars off street.

The two bedrooms were large and had comfortable beds. We had 5 women staying there for two nights and 3 of them slept on the floor - the sofa bed in the living room really wasn't appealing or comfortable (easy enough for owners to upgrade to make their place fantastic). Also, one bedroom had a nook that could have accommodated a single bed or day bed which would have helped our party out with sleeping arrangements. I would say, as currently configured, this house is great for two couples or two single people.

I would recommend it to friends and we may try to stay here again in future years (bringing better pads for the floor).

Perfect Ashland getaway!

  • 5 of 5

We joined another couple for a weekend stay in Ashland to catch a play. This house couldn't have been better located for walking around downtown, or better equipped for our weekend. We cooked at the house, and there were plenty of pots, pans and utensils to choose from.

The furniture is comfortable, atmosphere is relaxing, bedrooms and bathrooms are absolutely outstanding!

We plan to make this trip and annual event, and if we do, this is where we hope to stay. Thanks for a great vacation!

Such a convenient location!!

  • 5 of 5

Great place! Just steps from restaurants, shops, basically the whole downtown area. Lithia Park is around the corner for hiking, as is the ice rink.. We absolutely loved it. Well maintained, everything you could ask for in a nice place to stay should you wish to cook ..... or not cook. Owners were always very accessible when a couple questions arose. Loved the toilets! You will have to see for yourselves! Good off street parking. Nice neighborhood. We couldn't ask for more. I highly recommend The Victorian Secret. My only complaint was that I am 5'1", the beautiful beds are tall, fortunately the owners provide the little step stools for people like me.

Excellent house/excellent location

  • 5 of 5

Victorian Secret is only a block off the plaza and Lithia Park and only a few more steps to the Shakespearean theaters. The location could not be better. The house is very nice. Furnished well. Good beds. The kitchen is well set up for cooking, and there are a few ingredients that are supplied (cooking oil, salt and pepper) that are a good start on a meal. The owners provided for a good experience and communication went well. I would definitely stay here again.
