The Homestead, a circa 1900 boarding house, once was a cornerstone of the summer holiday heydays of York Beach. Newly renovated in 2011, our home today offers 7 charming bedrooms (many with ocean views) on the 2nd and 3rd floors, including 1 king, 4 queen, and 2 rooms each with 1 double and 1 twin bed.
On the first floor is our media/entertainment room which is anchored by a 64' Plasma HDTV equipped with 3D Blu-ray and 7.1 surround sound. The fully-equipped gourmet kitchen is complete with double ovens, 2 refrigerators and practically everything you need to cook and entertain for a house full. Stretching from the gourmet kitchen is the open concept great room which extends through the dining and dry bar area to a cozy corner and puzzle table in the bay window that overlooks the private fenced-in yard. Out back is a private deck with ocean views and a gas grill.
The house sports 3-zone central A/C and heat, continuous on-demand hot water for the 3 baths plus outdoor hot/cold shower, large capacity washer & dryer, plus wireless internet throughout the property.

Lovingly Restored: The entire house has been renovated to modern standards while retaining the turn-of-the-century charm of this old boarding house. The original horsehair plaster walls have been sealed and the southern yellow hardwood floors refinished to restore a modern glow to this aging beauty. All-new electrical, baths and central A/C modernize the property without sacrificing the charm.
The media room provides the latest in digital entertainment, while the remodeled kitchen provides all the modern cooking conveniences unimaginable back in the 1900's. Designed for entertaining and family get-togethers, the spacious great room offers a cozy corner for conversations, ample tables and chairs for even the largest dinners, and a puzzle/game table overlooking the fenced in yard.
Equipped for Entertaining: Featuring Electrolux double ovens and 5-burner high-power gas cooktop, the spacious kitchen is designed as both an efficient workspace and as the inevitable gathering place. Double refrigerators provide ample space for food and beverages, and each include ice-makers so you never run out.
Of course there is a microwave, dishwasher, trash compactor, Keurig coffee maker and even a hot water dispenser. Anodized pots and pans, lobster pot, Henckel knives, Kitchenaid mixer, toaster and blender - pretty much everything you'll need for meals from simple to divine. The dry bar offers storage for your beverages of choice, an integrated wine refrigerator, a broad selection of glassware, plus table settings for 16+ guests.
Outdoor Fun: Truly one-of-a-kind, the property boasts 7 off-street private parking spaces plus a large fenced in grass yard - complete with chaise lounges for sunning and outdoor lighting for evening yard games. The deck off of the dining area provides outdoor views of the yard and the ocean, along with a gas grill and plenty of tables and chairs for outdoor entertaining.
Around back there is a private outdoor shower with hot and cold water, perfect for rinsing off when returning from the nearby beaches (both Short Sands and Long Sands beaches are but a brief stroll away).
The owners are Sandy and Tom Logan and Paula and Barry Burke. Sandy and Paula are cousins who grew up in the Dracut/Lowell MA area, and this is the 3rd property that we have owned together.

We selected The Homestead for its location, its charm, and the fact it could accommodate our expanding family. We put a lot of sweat equity into this property to renovate and modernize it while retaining a bit of it's 1900's charm. York Beach has long been a favorite vacation spot for us, and we love the off-seasons almost as much - we utilize the property year-round as much as we can.
The spaciousness of the ground floor lends itself well to large groups, affording multiple locations to 'get away' and pursue different interests. Whether people-watching sun bathers on the way to or from the beach on the front porch, watching sports or 3D movies on the Big Screen, cooking in the gourmet kitchen, making a puzzle in the bay window, chit-chatting with friends in the cozy corner, reading a good book on the deck or playing games in the fenced in back yard, there's almost always something else to do or somewhere private to escape to.
And if none of that appeals, there's always the BEACH. The village of York Beach is just a short walk away, close enough for the children (and grandchildren) to visit the Zoo, the Arcade or Short Sands beach without need for a car. Heck, you can even pop down to Inn on the Blues most weekend nights for live Blues music, and you don't need a DD to get back home!
My family of 16 had an awesome time staying here. The house had tons of room and every amenity imaginable. The location was ideal and allowed us to walk to whichever beach we felt like visiting that day! It was perfect in every way!
This is our second time staying at the Homestead. Our large extended family comes to York Beach every two years. This is a great house - well appointed, in great condition, absolutely perfect. The owners are very nice and very responsive - we have never had any major issues but the few things that have required their assistance have been quickly and completely addressed. Each bedroom is clean and bright. Several living areas including a beautiful back porch and yard give your family room to spread out. The kitchen is exceptional - every possible appliance, a large quantity of glasses/dishes/silverware - everything you could possibly need. Best of all, the location between Short Sands and Long Sands is absolutely ideal. We couldn't love this place more!
Our extended family has rented a large place in York Beach for many years. The Homestead is the nicest place that we have ever stayed. The owners are very nice, super responsive, and very pleasant to deal with. We had lots of helpful info before arriving and when we arrived, it still exceeded our expectations. The home is very updated, super clean, loaded with extras (an amazingly stocked kitchen, lots of games and dvds, beautiful backyard/deck, beach chairs and a cart). The bedrooms are airy and lovely, The public areas are spacious and there are different sitting areas - so a large group can spread out. There are 3 bathrooms with showers - one with a tub on the main floor. Although the upper level bathrooms are small, they have everything that you would need and they are updated and very clean. (The third level bedrooms also have sinks in each one.) The kitchen has everything you could want - including a huge dinner table for a large group to sit together. We couldn't have been happier - wonderful place. New area favorites this time - the lobster rolls (and breakfast) at Stone's Throw on Long Sands and takeout lobsters from Fisherman's Dock on Route 1.
The Homestead exceeded our expectations! When we arrived, the home was absolutely immaculate. The house is beautiful and has everything a large party needs, including a double oven and two refrigerators. We had plenty of space to spread out, which is saying a lot when you have 17 people, 4 under the age of 4, all staying under one roof! The location can't be beat! Just a few minutes walk, and you're down town or at the beach. We also enjoyed a day at the zoo, also within walking distance. The homeowners are so friendly and accommodating. I would highly recommend this rental to anyone looking for a fun, relaxing beach vacation. We can't wait to return next year!
