Three Oaks Cottage Rental Photos and Description

3 Bedrooms, 2.5 Baths Comfortably Sleeps 6 Adults plus 2-3 Children

This Cottage style home has just been lovingly revived using the talents of award-winning architect William McCullom to create a warm and comfortable retreat that shares the same historical reverence and eclectic artistry as its locale, downtown Three Oaks. Simply walk to the Acorn Theater and Vickers Theatre. Get spirited at the Journeyman Distillery. Stroll through boutique shopping, antique shops and galleries or venture out of town a bit to the shores of Lake Michigan with Warren Dunes State Park just minutes away. Explore farms and vineyards or visit the neighboring towns of Harbor Country. After you day's adventures settle back in to this warm and cozy home, noshing in the great room-style kitchen, night-capping in the 'Dining Study' or nestle up to the fireplace with a great book. Just 90 minutes from Chicago and 40 minutes from South Bend, making it a quick and easy mental refresh, plant yourself here for awhile.

The home is cozy enough for a couples or solo escape yet big enough for a group.

We found everything as we hoped it would be, clean and everything functioning. Fit our needs well. Thanks, hope to do it again.

Quaint House in great location

  • 4 of 5

The house was perfect for our small family gathering. Very close to shops and restaurants. Country charm with nice updates.

Needs repair

  • 3 of 5

The Fourth Oak in Three Oaks Michigan is a quaint little cottage located in a quaint small town located on the fringe of tourism in the area. The accommodations are old by design which is a choice any prospective renter must address before signing any rental agreement. The facility and its grounds are however very much in need of repair and TLC to ensure that all that is offered is in working order. My suggestions would involve:

1) Have a qualified handiman spend a week "staying" at the house and make any repairs deemed necessary (i.e. make sure doors close properly, repair sinks that are loose, fix drawers that do not close properly, put screen doors in place to let in fresh air, have areas painted that are in need, etc.

2) Remove excess furniture and furnishings that are hampering movement and giving the feeling that this is a place for all old excess furnishings that the owner has . Five or six sets of dishes, silverware, glasses, etc. is far too much stuff. Add a counter with drawers to the master bath, cover the floor grates that appear to no longer be functional and make the kitchen more of a gathering place which is now ackward.

3) Outside the house needs a major facelift by cutting back all shrubs and trees, cutting the lawn and trimming/edging the walkways. Give the place a curb appeal update by painting where the old paint is pealing, updating both porches.

The facility and grounds are quite satisfactory for a long weekend or one week stay. After a week or more you begin to notice the shortcommings.

Please accept these comments as constructive in nature because the potential is truly there.

Great vacation home for a family!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at The Fourth Oak for our first vacation with grown children and 2 year old granddaughter. The house was plenty big enough for six adults and a small child, everyone had their own bed, two couples, two grown-ups and a child (using the trundle bed). The 2 1/2 baths made it easy for everyone to get ready! The kitchen was great, nice stove and refrigerator for cooking most of our meals in during our stay. If you have kids, you might want to bring some plastic cups, all the dishes and glasses are for adults! The town of Three Oaks is adorable and everything is easy to walk to. We were lucky enough to be in town for the Flag Day parade, which was loads of fun! Nearby Warren Dunes State park is very nice. We also really enjoyed the Galien River County Park, it was amazing! We took a day trip to St Joseph which has lots to do and a great fountain park and beach. We would definitely recommend The Fourth Oak vacation home!

A Great Location, A Great Little Town, Perfect for a Family or Friends

  • 5 of 5

The house sleeps well 4 friends or more and with 2 1/2 bathrooms it is ideal for not feeling overcrowded. With the weather as it has been with snow, we chose to stay in a lot of the evenings and cook in the gourmet kitchen and rent some dvds - the closest Red Box is 10 miles away so bring some with you if you don't want the drive. With Journeyman Distillery within walking distance and the new restaurant they have opened, you have a lot of options in the evening as well. The house is clean and well-maintained. This was our second time staying and not our last.

Picture perfect

  • 4 of 5

Located on the main road so everything is walking distance. This house is a gem-there is no detail that has been missed. Lovely rooms, very comfortable and perfect gas fireplace to enjoy in the evening. We did have a problem with hot water and the issue was resolved within the hour when we called. Beds are a bit soft but I think that is our personal preference. Loved the front porch for coffee in the morning and a glass of wine in the evening. Walked to Viola's for breakfast, the museum and garden store for perusing fun stuff, Harding's Market for groceries and the Farmer's Market on Saturday morning for fresh herbs and jam. I would recommend this rental for anyone who wants to be in the center of town and enjoy a beautiful home.
