This Cottage and Studio are situated on a 4-acre estate property on a quiet road less than 1/2 miles from the Village Green. It is not necessary to have a car when staying at this location. It is a quiet bucolic setting with beautiful gardens and sweeping lawn. Each house is surrounded by gardens and forest and each has private patio area for dining and relaxing out-of-doors. Much attention is given to details which will make your visit very relaxing and comfortable such as air-dried sheets (whenever possible) to bring you the old-fashioned pleasure of sun and fresh air captured in the bedding! Of course you expect an immaculate home and each house is meticulously cleaned prior to your arrival. Please click on 'More Details' for Studio information. Cottage information below:

The 'Cottage' has separate king size bedroom, living room with fireplace adding ambiance and warmth to this charming country cottage. The floors are all wood in living room, bedroom and kitchen, with ceramic tile in bathroom. WI-Fi Internet is provided. There is private stone terrace for lounging and dining al fresco. .

There is a futon sofa in cottage living room which can accommodate a third (or fourth) person. The cottage is a complete little house, decorated with lovely antiques for a very warm and cozy feeling and the king size bedroom allows for privacy to nap/sleep while other guest/guests enjoy the delightful living room or outside stone terrace for lounging about. The Cottage takes its name 'Hydrangea' from being surrounded on entrance side by climbing hydrangea covered with white flowers when in bloom. Radio/CD player provided in cottage.

The 'Studio' is a large open loft-style space perfect for one or two persons. There is a queen size bed with new comfy mattress, a cozy lounging space for reading or watching TV. In addition, there is a kitchenette with four burner stove & oven, refrigerator, microwave and plenty of cooking equipment. A 1950's original Formica table for dining is situated next to east window for morning sunshine. The bathroom with /shower is bright and immaculate & has custom wood shelving and ceramic tile floors.

The Studio space is ideal for the creative, offering beautiful natural light from large north and east windows. The natural light is supplemented by modern track lighting which highlights the gleaming white walls and interesting artwork. The floors are very warm-toned wide board pine flooring that gives the space a rustic quality along with its more mod touches which creates a very pleasant combination. You'll find everything you need in this space - well equipped for cooking if you wish. Cable TV and WI-Fi internet provided in Studio building.

It is not necessary to have a car as this property is a short walk to restaurants, shopping and all the convenience of in-town living but you'd never know it by the location - it is a quiet rural setting off a non-thru road so there is little traffic and all you hear are the birds (bird watching is favorite as the many plantings attract a whole cast of warblers.) Enjoy watching the natural wildlife including deer, wild turkey, squirrels and chipmunks.

Guestbook comments from the owner

A darling cottage! Complete with baby birds in a nest over the door, brilliant red cardinals flitting around the garden, and the occasional glimpse of deer. The swimming hole down the street is lovely, still swollen from the summer rains, cool and refreshing.

Thank you, Janice, for your many kindnesses!

Sweet studio on same property as a spacious house

  • 5 of 5

We rented this studio space in addition to the main house to fit extended family for a weekend. It was lovely and a perfect way to accommodate everyone. As with the rest of the house, the location is great -- within walking distance of town and a few swimming holes. And Janice, the owner, was extremely friendly and helpful.

The cottage ran out of water twice

  • 3 of 5

My girlfriend and I stayed in the cottage November 25 and 26, 2016. Janice the owner is a very nice person, one of the nicest people I've met. Her description and pictures of the cottage are accurate but if you are thinking of renting this cottage you need to know that the water runs out regularly. The water to the cottage ran out two times during my weekend stay. I personally believe this should be stated in the description. Running out of water turned my relaxed weekend into stress. I went to the cottage to relax. Also, the fireplace is not like a fireplace at all, it is a decorative hot air blower. Also, it took two weeks to get my security deposit credited back. Again, the owner Janice is very nice. The purpose of this review is to provide full disclosure to those who may be considering renting this cottage.

Owner's Response: I am very sorry that the water ran out, but fortunately it came back within an hour. We are doing everything we can to insure that doesn't happen again in the future; we have well water and Woodstock has had quite a drought this summer and the reservoirs are still trying to fill up to normal capacity. The good thing is that our well recovers very quickly and usually is back to running within an hour. However, that being said, it is our intention to have a new well drilled that will insure that even in drought conditions this inconvenience doesn't reoccur As to the fireplace, it is clearly stated in the description that it is an electric fireplace. Most guests have found it quite charming and cozy and no hassle with wood is a plus. I am sorry this guest did not find it enjoyable. This cottage is a lovely space and I am indeed sorry this guest was not able to relax fully on Saturday evening. I did offer him that he could stay as late as he wished on Sunday (check-out day) and I know the water was plentiful on that day being fully recovered overnight. My apologies again for any inconvenience - we take pride in presenting a beautiful and functioning house and the water issue is being resolved.

Comfy cozy cottage walking distance to town!

  • 4 of 5

Janice and Jim!

Thank you for making your place what it is. It is a clean adorable dwelling surrounded by beautiful landscaped property. A peaceful spot just a few steps from Woodstock. We enjoyed our weekend in the studio space. It had all the amenities we needed and we walked to all our favorite restaurants! Also just a short drive to the trails we wanted to hike! We did not get to swim in the beautiful creek because we were too busy climbing around all the parks and trails!! Next time! Thinking we might need to come back in the Fall!

Sincerely,

The Clappis

"The Studio" is a wonderful retreat!

  • 5 of 5

At the last minute we decided to get away for the weekend and we're thrilled to be able to book The Studio - we found it cozy, comfortable and well equipped. Janice was attentive and checked in to make sure we had everything we needed - she was a perfect hostess.

We walked into town on Saturday and enjoyed combing thru the flea market - we would have liked to have seen more original / local art and jewelry in the little shops but found a few gems regardless.

The highlight was the amazing thunderstorm Saturday night - standing in the yard watching the lightening chase across the sky was magical!

I would highly recommend The Studio for anyone looking for a get-away

Owner's Response: It was such a pleasure having you as guests - and I am so pleased you liked the Studio. It is a very special little house on a beautiful property that is so convenient to Woodstock and all it offers! I am glad you found a few gems at the flea market. When you come back I believe some of the shops offer local jewelry - I will check that out and let you know. I hope you do come back soon and thank you for your review - you captured the spirit of the Studio and the setting perfectly!
