About Phil Wood

We are both originally from the UK, no kids but we have 2 doggies, which explains why the garden is dog safe and we welcome doggies as guests at no extra cost.

Phil Wood purchased this house in 2007

Why Phil Wood chose Castleton

We love this area of Vermont, it combines being not too far from Stamford where we live, its near(ish) for skiing, has a local airport (I fly) and there is the largest lake in Vermont (fully enclosed) .. the lake is frozen in winter, there's a beach which is great for kids in summer.

What makes this house unique

This house is our home and its your home while you are here. We make sure its well stocked with usual household staples, paper goods for bathroom and kitchen, washer dryer supplies, bedding in all combinations, lots of towels and a fully stocked kitchen that makes cooking in easy. We make sure that the staples such as condiments, butter, oil etc are always here so you don't need to bring those.

We love doggies, the garden is dog safe so this is a vacation for ALL the members of your family.

Very Peaceful Space

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here for 5 days. It was a delight. It's very peaceful, if that's what you are looking for, and most importantly our dogs really enjoyed running around the yard. Phil and his wife were very nice, and responded promptly. Everything you need is there, and really all you have to do is bring yourselves, and food. Overall really enjoyed Vermont. If you have a chance go to the local wine/town store. They make fresh blueberry donuts in the morning as well as sausage egg and cheese. They also have lots of different knick knacks you can buy to take home with you:)

Very nice property

  • 4 of 5

Owner was very helpful and keeping in contact with us... My only complaint would be the cleaning, they change a lot for cleaning and the house was not clean, floors were dirty and rugs not vacuumed!

House alarm system that was nice to have, easy to get in and out, and great location!

Quaint home with great amenities!

  • 5 of 5

This was the perfect getaway in a quiet neighborhood in Vermont. There are a handful of restaurants close-by which adds to the convenience, and for those who want to eat in, the local grocery store makes that attainable. The pictures supplied are adequate and do show everything the house has to offer, the pellet fuel fireplace was awesome to use and really kept the place warm! The owner is very responsive and replies very quickly - which is fantastic as we brought our dogs with us, he was very thorough with his responses which left me with no questions. It was refreshing to have an honest owner who actually cared about our experience instead of just the money.

Castleton is great, but with Burlington only an hours drive away, we were able to visit many of the local breweries (including Magic Hat) as well as the Teddy Bear factory and Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream. This afforded us the ability to plan 3 day trips out to ensure we got the most out of our visit and truly experience Vermont as it should be.

I can't say enough about how great this stay was and how fantastic the owner of this property is. I would definitely recommend this property to family and friends - assuming we don't book it again first!

We loved our stay!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed for 5 days and were more than pleased! From the initial contact with Phil, until we left, we were welcomed and made to feel at home. During our stay, the coffee maker stopped working. Phil talked me through how to use the French press and within a couple of days, a replacement coffee maker was delivered to the door of the house. Beds were made with fresh smelling linens, the house was toasty warm, and the kitchen was well stocked for preparing our meals.

I would not hesitate to stay again and thank you Phil for your hospitality

Couldn't have been any better

  • 5 of 5

The owners, Phil and Jayne were available for any questions I had about the house and the area and were really helpful. The house is perfect - plenty of space, stocked with everything you need, very cozy and warm and dog friendly, which was great for us and our pup.

We stayed 5 nights and the area is beautiful - walked on the frozen lake, went to Killington to ski, Rutland for dinners, Woodstock for sight-seeing.

We have no complaints and next time we plan a trip to Vermont I'd definitely try to book with Phil and Jayne and stay at this house again. The woods around the house are really cool and you're a 5-10 minute drive from restaurants and groceries.

Owner's Response: Hi Ryan, thank you for the lovely review, most kind. We;d love to have back in the summer or fall, the lake has lots to do in the summer and of course in the fall its gorgeous. Killington opens the gondola to the top in the fall to give everyone great leaf-peeping views .. actually they even do it in the summer and people mountain bike down from the top ... its supposed to be amazing but way beyond my biking skills .. thx again
