We LOVE the quiet natural beauty of this area and we find it a very restful get away from our hectic chaotic lifestyle plus we enjoy the modern & comfortable lodge-like feeling of this home. When we are here we go 'off schedule', reading, napping & watching the 'river parade' and doing whatever suits us whenever we feel like it.
Donna purchased this house in 1995
So many of the homes along the river are jammed together but this great place sits on over 4 acres, is nestled in the trees and feels secluded and private.
Thank you so much for letting my family and I stay in this wonderful home! I would love to live in this house. The scenery is breathtaking. One of my favorite things about this house is how much space there is! I would definitely recomment this for a vacation get away.
I would like to say that the time we spent at the property appropriately know as, "Peace of the River", was so relaxing not to mention great way and place to be to unwind. The house overlooks the Kalama River and the balcony with a great view of the river is breathtaking. The house is equipped by the owners with literally everything you would need to have a very comfortable stay. The property is peacefully secluded but access to surrounding cities off I-5 is just 15 minutes or so down the road. We actually expected that we would go into town for meals but found it hard to leave the house as it was so comfortable. We completely suggest that you bring food for prep or reheating at the house because once you come in from being out and about, a meal in a restaurant that would be nice at any other time, doesn't hold a candle to staying in and enjoying the scenery. We definitely plan to be back for our summer fishing trip. Thank you to the owners of this vacation house for your overall hospitality and ensuring we had all we needed for a great stay.
We had a lovely time. Great location to all things near Mt Saint Helens. Donna was fantastic from start to finish with the booking. The house had everything we needed for a family of 7. Highly recommend.
I rented this property for a family retreat, hoping to find the perfect place to relax and unwind. This wonderful property greatly exceeded my (high) expectations. It was every bit as nice as the listing - and the wonderful owner - promised it would be. Instead of the typical "oh, I guess it'll be alright for a few days" that I often feel when I rent, I found myself delighted and wanting to stay even longer. That's a hard thing to achieve in my book.
Let's start with the owner. She was extremely responsive. She was extremely forthright. And she was extremely pleasant. My best interchange on any property I have rented to date. Wonderful customer service, very warm and personable.
The listing was spot-on accurate. And truth be told the amenities and layout were even nicer in person than they sounded in the listing! The place is beautifully sited overlooking the river, but separate from it and therefore private. No one can look in on you through the large walls of windows. Large decks wrap the river side of the house, with chairs and tables that make it comfortably useable and enjoyable. The sound of the river burbling just yards away only added to the charm.
The interior is light-filled and comfortable. The main room is huge, and overlooks the forest and the river. There is great flow of space from kitchen to dining to living to deck. The kitchen was well equipped and lacked nothing. The same is true for the bathrooms. A lower level great room was equally large and open and comforting, with similar light and windows overlooking the river.
The property was very clean and very well maintained. None of those "ooops, let's overlook that flaw" that you find in so many rentals these days. The property was outfitted and maintained at a level on par with how one would keep a house, it was that warm and cozy and clean.
I would definitely go back to this wonderful property, and I would certainly recommend this property to friends and family. It was a wonderful find.
Lots of space, comfy layout, big deck with nice view of forested river, all expected amenities, well equipped kitchen. Lots of good books. Super-helpful and responsive owners! Quiet rural neighborhood conveniently close to I-5 and Kelso/Longview. We did a day hike at Mt. St. Helens and stopped at Astoria on the way home (both are a bit over an hour away). I would agree that it's sketchy if you have kids who want to visit the river at the house, the slope is really steep and there's no obvious access.
Peaceful and remote setting yet convenient from I-5. We had a great experience.
We had a family gathering. This place is perfect. Hope to stay here again on future visits.
We often see herons fishing the shoals below, eagles flying overhead and once we saw an elk herd on the ridge across the river! And as noted by VRBO...Relax and Unwind in Southwest Washington. The scenic area of southwest Washington offers breathtaking scenery, sandy beaches, small port towns and all the activities of the Northern Cascade Mountains close by. The area is known for its fertile estuaries and centuries-old landmarks. Charted by Meriwether Lewis and William Clark in 1805, southwest Washington was considered the most desirable area to settle west of the Rocky Mountains. It now offers a delightful escape from city life for vacationers looking to relax and enjoy the spectacular local scenery.
