Our guest suite is available September 15 thru April 30th and is located on our three and a half acre property and separated from our main home for complete privacy and quiet. The suite is 700 square feet with 9' ceilings for the living and sleeping areas with a generously sized 3/4 bath, large walk in closet, and a large covered porch. We have free WiFi access provided by a new Netgear Nighthawk AC 1900 DST Router and DST Adaptor. (DST wifi access may operate differently depending on the portable device in use). We do not have a full kitchen, however we have a 1000 watt microwave, cuisinart toaster oven, a 5'x30" portable butcher block table for meal prep, new Charbroil gas grill on the patio (30000 btu)including utensils and steak knives, indoor and outdoor tables and chairs and covered swing for two, high quality disposable plates, glasses, and silverware and ceramic coffee cups, a 4.5 cu ft. refrigerator with frost free freezer, coffee maker and grinder with Trader Joe's French roast beans, teas, and complimentary Chardonnay and Merlot wines from northern California and 4 bottled waters.
Close by we have four fast food places, the best coffee shop for coffee and pastries and a huge gathering spot for bicyclists, an Irish pub, an Italian deli and sandwich place and three dinner restaurants, notably the new Mexican restaurant Rancho Rustico, which is one of the best Mexican restaurants in Tucson.
An ideal location for visiting gem show buyers or sellers, visiting bicyclists, golfers or anyone wanting to be within a very short distance to dozens of golf courses, the top of Mount Lemmon, Sabino Canyon, the Saguaro National Park East, or any of the attractions south and east of town - Colossal Caves, Kartchner Caverns, bird watching in Patagonia, or the historic towns of Tombstone and Bisbee Arizona. A twenty minute drive puts you at Campbell and Skyline roads where you will find Gallery Row and some of the finest dining in Tucson.
My wife and i have owned our property for eleven years. We built the studio/guest house in 2008. I am an oil painter and needed a large studio to do my work and the large guest suite seemed like a natural fit for visiting relatives. For several years we have used home away for our own vacations and so it dawned on us that other people might enjoy our place as much as our relatives have.
thomas k sweeney purchased this studio in 2004
Even better than the photos online! Great location in a beautiful, quiet setting. Very clean and appointed. The ONLY drawback is no stove, but there is a gas grill on the patio. So, not a real inconvenience. Would stay here again!
We stayed at Javalena Homestead in early April. We found it to be a very comfortable studio apartment. It was very privately situated in a building separate from the main house. The two bottles of wine provided by Tom were a nice welcome.
There are lots of hiking trails close by in the Catalina Foothills and in the Tanque Verde area, so we found this to be a good place to start from in the morning.
The apartment doesn't have a full kitchen, however, Tom has equipped the unit with a small fridge, microwave and toaster oven, so it is possible to prepare simple breakfasts or lunches.
As was mentioned in other reviews, the wifi system is not great here. Tom told us about recent efforts to improve reception, but we found we had to go outside the unit facing the house in order to get a reliable signal.
Overall, we enjoyed our stay here. Thanks, Tom.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this charming property. Spotless and tastefully decorated with some of Tom's art work, it oozes character.
Best of all, we liked the location- in the desert, away from the bustle of the city. Every night we sat on the patio and just listened to the sounds of the desert. Brilliant moonlight lit up the whole area, and we saw scurrying varmints, big eared rabbits and even a coyote.
Tom and Bonnie's description of the apartment and amenities were accurate and spot on. They only neglected to say how beautiful their setting is. They have put a lot of hard work in landscaping, and aesthetically, it is perfect.
We will definitely be back.
Thanks for the lovely experience. Scott and Jackie
Our stay was perfect. Away from the lights and noise of town. We will certainly return if we are in Tucson in the future!
Bucolic is the word that comes to mind with a beautiful view of the mountains while relaxing on the patio. The location was very convenient to a grocery store and other necessary shopping and Sabino Canyon. Our hosts were very accommodating and we would definitely stay again. The only drawback was spotty wifi connection.
We are located in the far northeast corner of Tucson, in the Tanque Verde Valley at the base of Mount Lemmon. The Saguaro National Monument East is a short drive of five miles. Mount Lemmon offers hiking ,back packing, rock climbing, winter skiing, and is world renowned for bicycle riding events. Also you can find various horseback riding facilities nearby and we have a barn and large arena facilities for your use with advance notice.
