Imagine waking up to views of the ocean and mountains, everyday. The very spacious master bedroom, with it's own bath(jacuzzi & dressing room) and king-sized bed, faces this view as does the living room and front and side porches.
A feeling of "home'' greets you the minute you walk through the door of this beautifully appointed 2 story condo. (The condo is only attached to another condo, by the garage).
The 1st floor has a galley kitchen and a dining room area, a living room, office/library and a full bath. Walking up the lovely staircase brings you to the 2nd floor to the master bedroom with a gas fireplace and a guest room with 2 twin beds and a attached full bathroom.
Seawall , Ship Harbor , Wonderland and the Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse are very convenient to Hy-Brasil.
Positioned on a hill overlooking the water,(and within walking distance to Seafood Ketch Restaurants and short driving distance to Thurston's Wharf ~ plus it's across from the Swans Island Ferry Landing) what better place to spend your holiday!
The name of this condo, Hy-Brasil, is Celtic for "island of hearts desire or delight".
The Island Explorer and Swans Island Ferry can be picked up right in front of the condo.
(Though the condo is smoke free and does not accept pets, a Siamese cat lives there in the winter months.)
A wonderful place to spend your holiday!
We fell in love with this house as soon as we walked in. Loved the front porch with great views for morning coffee and evening sunsets. Loved hearing the lobster boats going in and out of the harbor. Mainely Delights being within walking distance was also a plus. We would definitely return to this property without hesitation.
This cottage was simply amazing! The pictures just don't do it justice. Very well appointed and all updated. Paula at Dunbar answered our many questions and was very helpful. Quiet area to rest and relax and just a short drive to Acadia National Park, Southwest Harbor and Bar Harbor. Lobster at Thurston's Wharf (directly across the bay) is a must! We really enjoyed our stay and can truly say it was one of our best vacations.
We stayed at Hy-Brasil for one week and found the HomeAway listing description and photos to be a great representation of this lovely two storey condo. It was spacious, bright and meticulously kept up. The four attractive buildings (eight condos connected in the middle by the garage) are built around a central common lawn. The setting is quiet and peaceful. The week we were visiting (mid-July) we rarely heard residents of the other condos. Hy-Brasil's owners have filled their front porch with well-kept up planters of summer flowers and house plants. We enjoyed having our morning coffee outside on the porch rockers overlooking Bass Harbor.
The interior of the condo itself offers everything you could possibly think of. New appliances, comfortable furniture, well-outfitted kitchen, nice linens, and comfortable beds. When we arrived, we requested that some additional screens be placed in the screened-in porch. The owner took care of this on the same day.
Of the nearby restaurants we particularly enjoyed Thurston's lobster house directly across the harbor. We ate at nearby Seafood Ketch one night and were disappointed - the lobster had been pre-cooked and reheated, and my husband's seafood dish was quite overcooked and tough. We loved Grumpy's for breakfast in Southwest Harbor and also enjoyed the coffee and pastries at the Little Nook Bakery on Main Street. Food shopping at Sawyer's market was a real treat! National Sea Kayak did a great guided trip and Southwest Bicycle rentals were awesome.
All in all a wonderful experience. I would highly recommend renting Hy-Brasil in Bass Harbor.
This rental is set on a dead end road on a hill across from the ocean in the village of Bass Harbor, Maine. Many restaurants and sight seeing in Acadia National Park is close by; some within walking distance. The newly reconfigured Causeway Golf Course is a short drive away and you can pick up the Swans Island Ferry and Island Explorer right across the street. The village of Southwest Harbor, with its stores, restaurants and live entertainment, is about a 5 minute drive.
