About Mike Bythewood
Sharon is a real estate broker and Mike is a general contractor. They currently live in San Diego but find Bend to be the perfect second home. They love their Bend neighbors and think the Old Bend neighborhood is the hands down best for all-season access to everything Bend has to offer.
Mike Bythewood purchased this Bungalow in 2006
Why Mike Bythewood chose Old Bend
We found Bend completely by accident. Our only prior experience with Oregon was visiting Brookings on the coast just north of the CA border and found the stereotype of OR weather to be spot-on. Wet and chilly, even in the summer. Fortunately for us another road trip from Jackson Hole, Wy to Florence, OR took us directly through Bend. We fell in love with the place. It was February and the weather beautiful! Stopping for gas we asked for directions to Mt. Bachelor. The station attendant who was wearing shorts, advised us not to head up to the mountain that day, because there were blizzard conditions. Yeah right, we thought. Bachelor only 20 miles away and it was nice and sunny in Bend. To make a long story longer... the attendant was right. We started our journey and at mile 5, it started to snow. At mile 15 it was snowing REEEAALY hard. By the time we got to the resort parking lot we were in complete white-out conditions and could barely see to park. Well, we had a very a nice lunch in the lodge, and, after a very short discussion, we decided skiing an unfamiliar mountain in whiteout conditions would probably not be wise. We resigned ourselves to return another day. Resuming our trip to Florence, we were delighted to find little Hoodoo ski resort (two lifts) just west of Sisters. After two fun hours of skiing in clear conditions we still made the coast and Florence by 5:00 pm for the rehearsal dinner. Our next trip to Bend was in the summer and that sealed the deal for us. The people, weather, community, dining, and outdoor life are everything we wanted for a second home. So we bought one! THE END... and new beginning :-) Sharon & Mike

Quiet get away in down town Bend
Located in down town old Bend. Easy walk to historic district and old mill district. Paddle house is renovated offering comfort and many conveniences while enjoying the older neighborhoods in Bend.
Great House, good location
Beautiful, updated craftsman. Located ~2 blocks from McMenamins, 3 from Old Bend, 7 blocks to the water (Drake Park). House was clean and well appointed. Beds were beyond comfortable. Everything we needed was present. Owner made sure everything was as expected. Last time in Bend, we stayed closer to the water. That area was much noisier. This house has a nicer layout, close enough to everything, and much quieter. Would highly recommend for one or two couples looking for a nice getaway.
Love this property!
I love this property! The house is clean, comfortable and well taken care of. Plus the location can't be beat! The house is a short walk to downtown Bend, a fabulous grocery store and the Old Mill District. When we next travel to Bend, we will definitely look at renting this property again.
Owner was quick and efficient in responding to me and the entire process was easy from start to finish. Will definitely go back!
Visit to Bend
Very pleasant visit. Working with Mike B was always pleasant. This is a cozy cottage in Quiet old Bend with easy walking access to downtown. We ate out some and used the kitchen and grill as well. We kayaked with Tumalo Creek Co and hiked around the area during the days. Had a great time.
My first VRBO and it was wonderful. Clean, cozy, comfortable and had all amenities one would need. Enjoyed watching thunderstorms from front porch. Excellent location.
