About Randall Phillips

Why Randall Phillips chose Kona Coast

We fell in love with the house and property the moment we saw it 7 years ago. Yes, the view of Kona and the coastline is the best that we saw in our two years of house hunting. But what struck us was the sense of serenity and calm this property and location afforded us. We immediately felt that we were 'home'. Part of the appeal to us also was the location right in the midst of the Kona Coffee Belt and the fact that the property had been a working coffee estate.

What makes this cottage unique

All of the pieces by themselves are incredible: the incredible view from every window, the infinity edge solar heated salt water pool, the hot tub, the holistic fitness center, a completely green solar electric powered house, the two acres in award winning coffee, the sights and sounds of the country, the fresh air. Put them all together and you have a true luxury estate to relax in - when you are not too busy exploring all that the Big Island has to offer!

Our location right in the midst of the Kona Coffee Belt and the fact that the property is a working coffee farm sets us apart from many other vacation rentals. We have just added a roasting shack and now can roast coffee in-house in a custom made artisanal drum coffee roaster. We can offer to our guests our own private label 100% Kona Estate Certified Coffee grown and roasted right here on the property. We supply the finest coffee making equipment in the unit to compliment our award winning coffee.

Comfortable with an amazing view

  • 4 of 5

The owners of this rental were very welcoming and friendly. They provided us with fresh fruit and coffee our first morning there. Although we were rarely in the room ( we had so much planned ) the place was very clean upon arrival and everything was in great working condition. The customers provided us with a book on places to eat and things to do in the area. The listing was exactly as it appears in the pictures and I would definitely recommend this place to friends and/or will stay here again in the future.

Excellent

We enjoyed our time here very much -- excellent accommodation, peaceful, comfortable, quiet, with a lovely view, cooler temperatures and wonderful unobtrusive hosts. Atsumi is an excellent Rolfer and was inestimable help to me when I twisted my neck. Highly recommended.

Excellent rental

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I stayed at the cottage for about a week and had a great time. We loved the location as it was quite, the view is beautiful and it was only 15 minutes from downtown Kona. The rental was very clean and comfortable . The host are very accommodating and respect your privacy. Hot tub and pool were also great for down time from travel. If you are a coffee person you will love this place. The coffee is very, very, good and Randy (the owner) will spend as much time as you want sharing his knowledge of coffee.

We loved this place and will definitely stay there again next time we are in Hawaii.

The perfect home away from home, complete with charming hosts.

  • 5 of 5

This review is long overdue--sorry Randy and Atsumi. We are planning to return to Kona this fall/winter and hope to stay with you again.

Randy and Atsumi were gracious and friendly hosts and made certain that we had everything that we needed. The cottage had a well stocked kitchen, full size frig, washer and dryer (it was great to catch up on some laundry!), TV, internet, and a wonderful Californian King bed. The lanai was a relaxing place to hang out and enjoy the charms of Hawaii. We enjoyed the hot tub after our travels, but found the pool a bit too cool as the weather was unsettled during our stay. The view from the pool is amazing though. The place was very clean and perfect for the two of us. It still amazes me how well Randy and Atsumi stocked the cottage with everything a person might need during their stay. We highly recommend this accommodation!

Wonderful Kona Accomodations

  • 5 of 5

The Kope Cottage was everything the VRBO site said it was and more.

Randy and Atsumi were wonderful hosts. Be sure and attend one of their coffee bean roasting sessions.

We were on the go every day. What a treat it was to come back up the hill and be in our own quiet piece of paradise at the end of the day.

The Daylight Mind restaurant was one of our favorites. It is right on the water.

We recommend the Saddle Rd. if you are crossing the island. I have never been on a road with so many reflectors. The start of the Rd on the Hilo side

is a bit winding, but straightens out after a while.

We would definitely recommend the cottage to anyone headed to Kona.

wonderful stay in a nice, quiet location right on a Coffee Farm

  • 5 of 5

The property was just what we expected based on the information available on VRBO.

The house was in great condition, clean, well stocked with kitchen tools, great coffee maker, plenty of nice towels and beach towels. Nice living room and bedroom.

Randy and Atsuma were wonderful hosts. Met us when we arrived. Oriented us to the house and all that was in it. They provided a package of their own coffee, a bunch of apple bananas and some juicy oranges and limes from the property as well. There is a book with information about the property and the house and everything you need to know about the place The guest information book was also very helpful. We took their recommendation on places to eat, places to go to the beach, and good hikes. We love coffee, and the owners shared with us their roasting process so we could see it first hand.

The property is up on the hill away from town. It takes 10-20 minutes to get to different parts of Kailua/Kona. It is extremely quiet, had an amazing view of the sunset every night, and is totally comfortable.

We were very happy with the entire experience and recommend it highly!
