About the area: We’re situated in the hilly terrain of “The Galena Territory,” only 8 miles from the historic town of Galena near the northwest corner of Illinois. Forget flat farmland. Ancient glaciers pushed out in this direction and left behind a scenic wonderland of rolling hills and the highest elevations in the state. Fall coloration is truly a sight to behold in this area.
The town of Galena is renowned for a Main St. lined with shops filled with antiques, collectibles, artwork, wine studios, an old-fashioned ice cream parlor, restaurants, bars and more. You can spend hours browsing and shopping.
Another 20-minute drive will take you to across the mighty Mississippi to the vibrant river city of Dubuque, Iowa. If casino gaming and/or dog racing is your thing, this town has some of the best facilities of their kind in the Midwest. If that’s not your thing, Dubuque has a number of other attractions going for it, including a top-notch National River Museum.
Jenny and I traveled extensively during long careers as working professionals. We learned a lot about what makes travelers and visitors comfortable, and are determined not to put our guests through some of the “road warrior” horror stories we experienced over the years
As rental property owners in The Galena Territory, we have applied these lessons to make our townhome comfortable, convenient, homey and friendly for all of our guests.
For many years we used our townhome as a retreat to decompress from the stress of long hours in high-pressure jobs. It seemed our heads would clear as soon as we crossed the Jo Daviess County line.
Now as retirees we still enjoy basking in the serenity and natural beauty of this area and pursuing its abundant recreational and tourist activities. Even after more than two decades of home ownership in the area, we continue to discover new sights to see and things to do. -- Jim & Jenny Olsztynski, Mt. Prospect, IL
Jim Olsztynski purchased this townhome in 2011
Jenny and I first experienced The Galena Territory as renters ourselves when we vacationed here with our two young daughters. That was back in 1986, and we were so infatuated with the area that one month later we returned to buy a townhouse that at the time existed only as a floor plan. Construction got finished in July of 1987, and we have been enjoying our getaway home out here ever since.
Our daughters have since grown up and we now have four impossibly charming grandchildren that love to visit The Galena Territory with us. This expanded family outgrew our single townhome, so when our neighbors next door decided to sell their unit, we jumped at the chance to acquire additional living space.
You'll love the woodsy seclusion. Even though we are part of a string of 16 townhomes, the end unit where you'll be staying offers serene privacy and is a great venue for bird-watching -- along with the occasional raccoon, wild turkeys and other non-threatening critters.
You will also appreciate how well-stocked this place is with food condiments, coffee and tea, toys, games & DVDs for kids and more. You'll find more supplies here than at any 5-star hotel!
This was a lovely two bedroom end unit that was very well stocked with everything a guest could want. It had great light and looked out onto woods--a very tranquil setting. The owners seem to have thought of everything and the place was immaculate.
Enjoyed the house very much. Everything was clean and in great shape. The beds were super comfortable! Kitchen was nicely stocked with utensils and other essentials. The bathrooms had plenty of towels. The area was quiet and the house was cozy. The owners club was great for activities inside. Went into Galena and shopped and ate there. Lovely area to visit. We would stay in your house again. We even recommended it to family. Thank you for making this home feel like our home away.
Beautiful, well-kept home.Communication with owners was above and beyond. Seamless. Plenty of space. Owners thought of everything -- stocked bathrooms as well as kitchen. Travel guides very user friendly.
First time renting a townhouse for a girls weekend in Galena.
Highly recommend this place as it was very clean and comfortable for 6 adults.
Loved our stay at 15 Oak Glen! The home was very clean, nicely decorated, and the kitchen was well stocked. We throughly enjoyed our stay, and would highly recommend this home as a wonderful weekend retreat. The only downfall would be unloading and loading your car, and getting luggage, coolers, etc., to the downstairs living area, and fridge. The top level is entry way, and main bedroom and bath. If you're young, no problem. There were 4 of us ladies ages 55 to 79. We struggled, but had some good laughs too, getting back and forth. It was all well worth it!

Overlooking the Mississippi River, this renowned Midwestern ski retreat offers 19 ski runs amid fantastic views of three surrounding states and “Old Muddy” itself. Spring and summer offer even more recreational opportunities within the Galena Territory.
