About Chuck

I am a retired college professor. My wife and I currently reside in Oklahoma and are happy to share our house with you!

Chuck purchased this cabin in 2001

Why Chuck chose New Mexico

My wife and I bought this cabin as 'retreat from the heat'. We loved the convenience of being right on the outside of town and, of course, being right on river.

What makes this cabin unique

All that you need for a relaxing vacation in Red River.

Guestbook comments from the owner

my family loved the house, but there wasn't enough towels for the amount of people I had with me and it didn't seem to have been cleaned before we got there "sheets on the bed"

Christmas Ski Vacation

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful week of skiing and watching the kids learning how to ski in their schools. Enjoyed the parade of lights on Christmas eve, and also the tubing after dark that was really exciting and last was the great snow mobile ride that was fantastic. The cabin was great, nicely furnished with all we needed. had plenty of room for all of our party and the Christmas tree was really a added bonus for the kids on Christmas morning. Would recommend this cabin .Hopefully we can return next Christmas. Thanks Vergie.

Cute place, but... the devil is in the details...

  • 3 of 5

The Red River cabin was a cute place, on the edge of town so out of the way a bit but pleasantly so, especially with the little creek behind it.

Our biggest issue, really, was in the cheapness that rang through the details. We have stayed in numerous places over many, many years with VRBO, and this was the worst in regards to that. Little things - like the WORST toilet paper ever; no paper towels and just one USED kitchen sponge (complete with holes in it); rough, worn out, old towels in the bathrooms; and cheap, just-a-little-left-over-in-the-bottle toiletries - truly detracted from the over all experience.

Also, a big deterrent when we first arrived was that the cabin was unlocked but not aired out. It was late October, so the days would warm up the place and we walked into a stuffy cabin with a TERRIBLE stench pervading the downstairs. We eventually surmised that it was probably coming from the pea trap in the kitchen sink which must have dried out from lack of frequent use prior to our visit. We were able to open some windows and get the smell to dissipate, thankfully, but it was certainly an unpleasant welcome at the start of our stay.

Attention to these little details seem like they wouldn't cut into the profitability too much to consider so that the location and charm of the cabin overall could be a guest's greatest take away from the stay.
