About Inga Middleton

My name is Inga Middleton. I am half Icelandic, half English. I grew up in Iceland but have lived in the UK on and off over the last 20 years.

Inga Middleton purchased this cottage in 2007

Why Inga Middleton chose Iceland

I chose to buy a cottage near Reykjavik so we could enjoy being in the stunning and peaceful Icelandic country side, but close enough to the capital to be able to see friends and family. The cottage is also very cozy and comfortable, and the view down the valley is spectacular; on a clear day the majestic Snaefellsnes glacier can be seen in the distance. This glacier has a special place in the hearts of the nation and it is very special to have such a good view of of it.

What makes this cottage unique

We love hiking in the mountains surrounding the cottage and fishing in the lake.It is also easy to get to all the major sights of southern Iceland and there are some fantastic swimming pools less than half and hour away. Watching the sunset from the terrace or from the rocking chair is very special, especially in the spring during lambing season (may) when the little lambs skip across the field below the cabin.

Lovely cottage in a beautiful area!

  • 5 of 5

Inga's cottage was perfect for our family of four. The cottage is very quaint and cozy. Although the loft has a shorter ceiling, our teenage daughters fought over who would get to sleep there. During our stay we explored the waterfall near the cottage, the Snaefellsnes Peninsula, Golden Circle, and West Iceland. We were very lucky and saw the NorthernLights twice and several beautiful sunsets from the deck of the cottage.

Superb !

  • 5 of 5

Situated in an idyllic, quiet location, this well-equipped cottage has a huge deck facing a glacier-carved valley. It's within a half hour of many hiking trails and at a reasonable distance from the Golden Circle.

Our family travels frequently across North America and Europe, and this is is one of our two favourite rentals of all time. Our daughter who couldn't make it was envious when she saw the pictures!

Lovely cottage outside the city

  • 5 of 5

Our time at the cottage was absolutely perfect. Situated about 30 minutes from Reykjavik it had the perfect mix of being close to everything yet far enough away to feel secluded. All the amenities of home.

Lovely cottage, stunning location

  • 5 of 5

This cottage was great - a home from home. It was really well equipped with everything that you could need and had plenty of space for a family of four. The cottage was very clean and well maintained and the views over the local countryside were stunning. We were fortunate to have a largely sunny week and saw several beautiful sunsets from the decking.

It was in a good location for the Golden Circle sights, Selfoss, Reykjavik and the surrounding area and The Blue Lagoon. The farthest afield we travelled was the Solheimjokull Glacier for a glacier walk which was an amazing experience and approx 3 hr drive, stopping on the way at Seljalandsfoss and Skogafoss. We also had a great day climbing Mount Esja, the mountain range next to the cottage. The hot springs of Hverageroi are an hour away and the hot river at the top of the trail was amazing for a bathe! This trail is only open in the summer.

Overall a fantastic cottage in a stunning location, in an amazingly diverse country. We would not hesitate to recommend the cottage and we hope to come back to Iceland one day to do the things we couldn't fit into one week!

Owner's Response: I am so happy to hear that you had a wonderful time at the cottage! Early spring is magical with all the lambs hopping about on the field below the cottage and to watch the horses from the terrace, grazing backlit by the sunset has to be one of my favorite moments at the cottage.
