Beauty Within The Walls

We recently returned from a wonderful week’s stay in this beautiful space.

From the onset of helpful, gracious communication with Jean Francois either by email or by phone from Portland, Oregon, in the US, our relationship only grew after we arrived. Our first impression was even better than the photographs. The Beaux-Arts building is a nineteenth century structure filled with history and beauty. Our

comfortable apartment had ample window space onto the full balcony overlooking the fenced courtyard and located in the heart of Avignon, within walking distance to all amenities. In our week’s stay, we walked and enjoyed the entire city inside the wall.

We enjoyed 3 bedrooms, 2 full baths with showers, a small efficient kitchen, very

large living area, full balcony patio, and an open staircase leading up to the upstairs bedroom with 2 large skylights controlled by electric shades. The apartment access is located on a quiet side street with security gate and locks, and elevator to our floor. One of the greatest assets is the gated parking located a short walk through the arts school behind our building.

Our host Jean Francois, a local wine authority, was gracious and thoughtful, recommending eating and entertainment close in the neighborhood, as well as

several of his favorite wineries and attractions in the famous regions nearby.

On our last night in Avignon, our hosts, Isabella and Jean Francois offered a nice bottle of wine with us as we shared our wonderful experience in their lovely city.

Un très beau séjour dans cette maison historique. Idéale aussi pour une famille nombreuse. Tout était parfait, la maison, la position et la disponibilité du propriétaire.

Le seul petit bémol: la ligne internet était faible.

Wonderful apartment inside the walls of Avignon

We stayed at the "Beaux Arts" apartment owned by our hosts, Isabelle and Jean-François, for 4 nights in late July. The apartment is in a separate nineteenth century structure, done in the Beaux Arts style, which is part of a larger and much older residential building. The building is very well-located inside the walls of Avignon. You get to the apartment by entering a locked gate and walking through a large open courtyard. The entrance to the apartment is from the courtyard. The apartment has 2 levels. The first level has a large open room for the living and dining areas and a large separate kitchen at the back. The kitchen is very well furnished and equipped, excellent for cooking. There is an open staircase that leads to the second level which has 2 comfortable bedrooms and a full bath. The bedrooms were comfortable not luxurious. The bath and shower worked well. The weather was quite warm when we were there, and we relied on fans to keep cool in the evening. There is no air conditioning in the building; as far as we could tell there is very little air conditioning anywhere in the city apart from the larger hotels.

Our host Jean-François was wonderful. Very gracious and thoughtful. He lives and works in Avignon and gave us an excellent tour of the neighborhood with good recommendations for shops and restaurants. There is a very good covered food market nearby. The market is ringed by bars and restaurants that are fun and busy at night. The apartment comes with gated parking, a real necessity if you have a car, as there is little available parking on the streets. The parking space is in a gated lot a short walk from the building. Apart from the main street running through the city, the streets of Avignon are very narrow so be sure to rent a small car. The neighborhood is a great residential area away from the main tourist area. There are many small theaters near the apartment (if your French is good) and the neighborhood is home to many artist of all stripes.

We loved Avignon. The "Beaux Arts" is an authentic place in a great area to experience all the city has to offer. We highly recommend our host Jean Francoise.

Très bel appartement très bien placé

Idéalement situé au coeur d'Avignon, cet appartement de caractère bénéficie en plus d'un accès privilégié à la vaste cour de cet immeuble historique.

En été, la possibilité de déjeuner ou diner sous les feuilles des platanes qui vous protègent du soleil est un vrai plus. L'appartement est très bien aménagé et vous pourrez y séjourner nombreux sans vous marcher dessus. La vaste cuisine associée à la grande pièce à vivre en font un lieu de séjour rare.

Urlaub im historischen Gebäude

Wir hatten das Ferienhaus Les Beaux Arts gemietet, leider sind die Fotos der beiden angebotenen Objekte vermischt. Dabei handelt es sich um das vorgelagerte Gebäude, das zur ehemaligen Schule der schönen Künste gehört. Darin wurde eine auf 2 Etagen verteilte Wohnung errichtet. Sie ist modern eingerichtet und gut ausgestattet. Die Lage in der Altstadt ist optimal, alles ist in wenigen Minuten zu Fuß erreichbar. Tipp: der Bäcker in der Rue Grivolas hat fantastische Backwaren, der Markt Les Halles bietet nahezu alles was Magen und Herz begehren. Überall in der Altstadt gibt es Cafes, Bars und Restaurants für jeden Geschmack und Geldbeutel.

Der Vermieter ist sehr freundlich und gibt einem gute Tipps für Ausflüge ins Umland und empfiehlt Winzer. Wir hatten einen abgeschlossenen Parkplatz in der Rue Grivolas. Wir kommen ganz sicher wieder!
