2 Bedroom, 2 BA Cabin, Secluded, 3 Miles to Downtown, Returning Guest Discount
Your own tranquil Treehouse is secluded on 2.5 acres of white birch, mountain laurel and hardwoods, only 3 miles from downtown Highlands. The charm here is magical for a perfect romantic getaway or to just get away from it all. Authors have written books here. It is a unique place from which to hike nearby Whiteside Mountain or enjoy the waterfalls, trout streams, restaurants, shopping and seasonal festivals, concerts and theatre of the Highlands region.
When you first arrive, you may enter the Treehouse from the front porch, which has easy access for the mobility impaired and has stacks of firewood during cooler months. You may also enter from the long, high back porch with its swing, recliners and rockers overlooking wooded grandeur as the land falls away beneath you. Both porches run the width of the house.
You will enter the Great Room with its 22-24 feet high cathedral ceiling that gives a wonderful feeling of spaciousness and windows that let in an abundance of natural light and the forest outside. You will view the beautiful dining and living room areas, the rock fireplace, and a very comfortable sleeper sofa in front of a coffee table filled with information on things to see and do. Just beyond, high on the back wall, you will see a 50" Smart TV with Direct TV, Roku, Netflix and more. You will be standing on thick hardwood floors that run throughout the house.
As you look around, you will notice the dark granite counters and wood cabinets in the full kitchen. Through the window by the fireplace, at the driveway level you can see two grills.
Walk toward the back door and you can turn into the master bedroom with its comfy, king size bed and full bath. All linens and towels are provided and the beds will be made when you arrive. Go back to the Great Room and you can go up the stairs to the high, open loft bedroom with its queen size, sleigh bed, writing desk, full bath with shower, double closets and dark wood furniture and desk. On the way up or once there, you may notice the window at the apex of the cathedral ceiling that lets in natural light, making the loft bedroom light and airy.
The Treehouse is fully furnished. Wireless WiFi and free long distance calling in the United States on a land line is provided. Mobile reception in the mountains can be spotty.
Day or evening, you may want to swing or rock on the back porch. Enjoy a beverage and the ultimate peace and tranquility of deliciously cool days and crisp nights of summer and early fall. In the late fall and winter months, a warm and cozy fire in the rock fireplace will beckon.
Beside the house, near the barbecue grill, is a picnic and firepit area, good for grilling , and picnicking, day or night, or spending a cool night sitting around the firepit.
Highlands and Cashiers have incredible restaurants, unique shops, golf, hiking, waterfalls, and trout streams, all nearby. The hiking trails and the many waterfalls have beautiful views. In the winter, skiing in Sapphire Valley is 25 minutes away.
For me, being in the Treehouse and Highlands is a transcendent experience. All the problems and worries of everyday life seem to fall away to the lower elevations from which I came. I hope you can share that Treehouse experience with me.

About Larry Young, Highlands Treehouse, LLC
The Treehouse is now owned by Highlands Treehouse, LLC. My wife and I are the sole owners of the LLC. I am a retired professional in Houston, TX who grew up and attended college in Georgia. I miss the mountains and woodlands of the east coast. I bought the Treehouse both as a place to get away and as an investment. My wife is a yoga teacher. I am a former Marine officer, was a partner in a professional firm and do some film acting. I have wonderful housekeepers who have immaculately maintained the Treehouse for number of years and people in Highlands who look after the building and the grounds.
Why Larry Young, Highlands Treehouse, LLC chose Highlands
I was on vacation in Sapphire Valley and fell in love with both Highlands and the Treehouse. Something about the topography, the waterfalls and the town, as well as the Treehouse itself, is unique. The feeling in the Treehouse with its high back porch that runs the width of the house and overlooks silver birch, hardwoods and mountain laurel as the ground falls away beneath is indescribable. I have learned that Highlands attracts a very high quality group of people both as renters and owners and is brimming with fine restaurants, shopping and live theater and concerts in the summer, both in town and nearby. The fall provides many great events and festivals in the area. Situated on 2.53 acres of mountain laurel, white birch and hardwoods, the Treehouse is secluded but is only about 3 miles and five minutes from downtown Highlands. This combination was very appealing. It is also within walking distance of Whiteside Mountain with its beautiful hiking trails and views, including the Shadow Bear. There is easy access to many wonders of nature, Cashiers and Sapphire Valley. The Treehouse was built around 2001 and is of high quality construction with wonderful amenities: central air and heat, a beautiful fireplace, thick hardwood floors and granite counters in the kitchen. There are two large porches on the front and back of the house that run the width of the house. In warm and cool weather, one could spend most of one's time on the swings or rockers on the back porch where the ground falls away into the forest, giving a great view and a feeling of peace.
What makes this Cabin unique
What made me fall in love with the Treehouse was the utter tranquility of the place. From the 22-24 feet high cathedral ceiling in the Great Room to being surrounded by mountain laurel and hardwood forests, to sitting on the high back porch in one of the rockers, lounges or the swing viewing the land and forest falling away beneath you , there is a feeling that whatever you are looking for, you have found it. It is very attractive that it is so close to the activities and restaurants in Highlands and Cashiers -8 minutes in one direction and 15 in the other. The 20-25 minute drive to skiing in Sapphire Valley is also attractive. Photographs cannot truly capture the charm of the place and upon going back to close the sale two months after making an offer, it was even more charming than I remembered. It did not hurt that I drove from a stifling July summer in Durham to the delicious coolness of Highlands in the course of a day. The Treehouse seemed extremely well-built and solid in its construction with its 6' walls. It still does.

Such a cute quiet little house. Loved the porch and it's super close to downtown. My only thing is the "2 bedroom house" is a 1 bedroom with a loft. We went to highlands for a friends wedding with another couple and didn't realize it was only one bedroom. Other than that, I would stay here again with only my husband. Very nice and clean also.
We appreciate and agree with the kind comments on the Treehouse. Regarding the loft bedroom, it is a full bedroom complete with a full bath. The description clearly says that it is a “high, open loft bedroom.” It should come as no surprise that that is exactly what it is. Nevertheless, we appreciate the good experience and appreciation of the atmosphere of the Treehouse that our guests enjoyed.
Had a great weekend, easy to get to and close to downtown.
Loved this place
The cabin was perfect for a couple, girls’ weekend, or a family of 4. The cabin was in excellent condition and so clean. Walking into the cabin was so inviting. Kitchen is small but well supplied with everything you need. I was pleasantly surprised with all the supplies that were there to keep the place clean and tidy. The back porch is what you dream of when you want a blissful mountain stay. We loved the two rocking chairs, the swing and two chaise loungers. We wrapped ourselves in blankets to sit outside at night. Magical. The family room has a small fireplace but we used it every night we were there. How awesome that the owner has logs stacked on the front porch. There is a large flat screen TV that uses ROKU so you have NETFLIX available to you and your family. The couch was comfy for three people and there were two other chairs. There is a kitchen table. The master bedroom downstairs has a scrumptious king bed with the best sheets and awesome down comforter. I did not want to get out of bed. There is a full bath downstairs. The loft upstairs has a queen bed and also quite comfortable that my DIL also enjoyed fully. There was a full bath upstairs too. There is parking at the lower level and upper level. We parked on the upper level since we had no steps to climb. On the lower parking level there is a fire pit that families will greatly enjoyed. I also saw a nice gas grill down there. The cabin is well made and decorated as you would accept a mountain cabin to be. My DIL loved the cabin so much that she is going to rent it for her family of 4 this summer. It is the ultimate compliment.
Nice and Charming
The cabin was very nice. We enjoyed our stay very much. The owners had thought
of everything. A great retreat for a quick get away.
Perfect Weekend Get-Away
My husband and I spent an extended weekend in The Treehouse and absolutely loved every minute of it! This charming house was perfect for the two of us and would also work well for a small family. Beautifully decorated, picturesque location, comfortable, and met all of our needs. We enjoyed cooking in the kitchen; we enjoyed the proximity to Highlands & Cashiers; we enjoyed a little of bit hiking (the weather didn't cooperate). If it had been warmer & not raining, we would have spent all of our time on the back porch looking at the trees. This ticked all the boxes for a perfect weekend for us!
We loved our stay at this treehouse. The location is perfect, close to trails and waterfalls. Everything was great.
