About Lauren Klein
We welcome you to 'Lesser Light,' a lovely cottage that makes a perfect get-away destination. A builder on the island for over 20 years, Ron built this cottage for himself. The love he put into it shows in all the details.
Why Lauren Klein chose Tom Nevers
Ron chose this property because it is a lush, beautiful, 3 acre parcel, affording privacy and at the same time easy access to everything Nantucket has to offer.
What makes this Cottage unique
I love to spend an afternoon in 'Sconset, which is less than five minutes away. There, you can park your chair on the beach, catch some rays, read a good book, and when you get hungry, leave everything there and walk up the stairs from the beach right into the middle of the quaintest, most charming village. There's a general store with all kinds of good things, including the most delicious coconut and ginger ice creams! Then take a stroll around and look at some of the rose-covered cottages -- all framed by the sparkling blue sea. 'Sconset offers five restaurants (besides the general store): a cute sandwich shop (Claudette's); the beach-side bistro at the Summer House; the upstairs bar and restaurant at the Summer House; The Sconset Cafe, which has a really nice breakfast, offers lunch and a BYOB dinner (the liquor/wine shop is adjacent to it); and The Chanticleer which offers an upscale dinning room and a more casual bar dining area (lunch in season).

Great cottage with lots of privacy and charm!
We had a great stay here and the owners were fantastic! Was everything we had hoped it would be and more. Loved the owner recommendations for restaurants/activities around the island too. Would highly recommend this place!
A Peaceful Retreat
Thank you, thank you, thank you for opening up your home to our family to help us kick off our 2017 summer vacation! What a fabulous time we had. And we could not have been any luckier to have rented from such wonderful people!
From the initial booking to the safe return of our deposit--you both made every detail of our experience so delightfully seamless!
Your cottage is so quaint, cozy, quiet and surrounded by nature! Even our children enjoyed a peaceful nap in the hammock amongst the singing birds!
Thank you for your wonderful island recommendations and your incredibly generous hospitality. We’re so happy to have discovered “Lesser Light” and look forward to returning in the near future!
Thank YOU for such a very lovely note about 'Lesser Light'. We particularly liked that you put in a good word for the birds - who are such an unadvertised delight of any stay there. Even after decades on the Island, it can still astound to be sitting outside, reading a book on a lazy summer afternoon and to look up and notice a dozen goldfinch, thrush, chikadee, hummingbird and sparrow darting merrily from the brush to the feeder. And, of course, in early spring it's always a relief (and promise of summer coming) to see the jaunty red neck pheasants come strutting over to see if they too can enjoy a bit of Nantucket hospitality at 'Lesser Light'.
We went for a family trip to have fun and relax and thats exactly what we did! We had the best time! It was a great location to explore all parts of the island. We would take our nightly walks with our dogs to the cranberry bogs which was amazing and convenient. Then we would head to another part of the island and come back and make a big dinner. Lesser light had everything we needed and more....... We will be back! Thanks for the wonderful memories!
Thanks for your note! The 'Windswept' cranberry bogs - and the larger 'Serengeti' moors - sometimes feel like a well-kept secret. You traipse just across the old Milestone Road to enter them and can then spend 10 minutes or spend a whole day walking around, exploring the paths, ponds, bogs and picking wild berries. Even though it's smack in the middle of the Island it is silent and feels almost like it's yours alone to enjoy. Often you can walk for 20 minutes and - except for the two telltale water towers on the horizon - you don't see anything that wasn't there when grazing sheep roamed this spot in the 1860s. Though the Island has its modern reputation of being cosmopolitan and charming/sophisticated, the truth is that almost 40% of the Island is protected from any development and destined to remain "forever wild." So: Come for the Gucci and world class restaurants - but it's the wonders of the wilds and the wide open beaches that will have you wanting to come back.
My boyfriend and I had a wonderful relaxing stay the the Lesser Light. Kitchen was fabulous, house was toasty and the hosts were awesome. I would gladly recommend this little place for another couple looking for a getaway!
Everyone loves Nantucket in the summer... but you seem to have caught the special charms of the Island when it's a bit cooler, a lot quieter and in many ways more enchanting. Sit by a warm embered fire and have a cup of hearty chowder in the old wood panel saloon on Broad Street and then ride your bike along the near empty paths to experience an entirely different side of the 'Old Gray Lady of the Sea'. There's great excitement to be on Island for July 4th or the August concert of the Boston Pops on Jetty's Beach, but it's the still quiet beauty of Autumn that can make you really fall in love with the place.
Relaxing and just what we needed after our wedding
After all the stress and work from getting ready for our wedding what we both wanted was a quiet and relaxing honeymoon. (we also really wanted to bring our dog) Lesser Light was exactly what we needed....a charming cottage 1 mile from a great beach. Lauren and Ron were great to rent from. They made awesome dinner recommendations and told us about the Bluff Walk in Sconset which was gorgeous.
Thank you! We had a blast calling Lesser Light and Nantucket our home for a week.
Thank you for your kind words! We love to hear that Nantucket (and 'Lesser Light') worked for you as a place to relax, have fun, and get ready to face the world as "Mr. and Mrs." That Bluff Walk is truly an amazing trek! And it's a fun detail that, for no charge at all, you get to share the exact views over the Cliff and to the Atlantic beyond that the billionaires who bought those fancy houses paid so many millions to ''own." Just like the 50+ miles of public beach on the Island, these are delights that we all get to share in.
Wonderful Place to Stay
Perfect place for a peaceful weekend.
Highly recommend for couples or very small family. Quiet part of the island but close enough to bike trails and quick drive to town and into Sconset. Wonderful owners. We had a great time!
We"re so happy your family had fun! We always think that it's never too soon to let Nantucket work its magic on the next generation. So many people come to visit with their children and still speak fondly of the visits they made with their own parents when they were the 'little ones'. Hope we'll see you folks back again.
*** Located in Tom Nevers East, minutes from the Ocean, the bike path into town, and a WAVE (shuttle bus) stop, and a five minute drive into Siasconset ('Sconset), this adorable cottage allows easy access to all the pleasures of Nantucket summers even while sitting serenely, surrounded by gardens, up a long, private driveway. Pull up a chaise lounge on the large wood deck, grill the day’s catch on the gas grill, take a nap in the hammock, watch the incredible night sky just outside your door - without the lights of town interfering - and delight in the best of Nantucket! In nearby 'Sconset, there are five restaurants: a cute sandwich shop (Claudette's); the beach-side bistro at the Summer House; the upstairs bar and restaurant at the Summer House; The Sconset Cafe, which has a really nice breakfast, offers lunch and a BYOB dinner (the liquor/wine shop is adjacent to it); and The Chanticleer which offers an upscale dinning room and a more casual bar dining area (lunch in season).
