About Lauren Klein

We welcome you to 'Lesser Light,' a lovely cottage that makes a perfect get-away destination. A builder on the island for over 20 years, Ron built this cottage for himself. The love he put into it shows in all the details.

Why Lauren Klein chose Nantucket

Ron chose this property because it is a lush, beautiful, 3 acre parcel, affording privacy and at the same time easy access to everything Nantucket has to offer.

What makes this cottage unique

I love to spend an afternoon in 'Sconset, which is less than five minutes away. There, you can park your chair on the beach, catch some rays, read a good book, and when you get hungry, leave everything there and walk up the stairs from the beach right into the middle of the quaintest, most charming village. There's a general store with all kinds of good things, including the most delicious coconut and ginger ice creams! Then take a stroll around and look at some of the rose-covered cottages -- all framed by the sparkling blue sea.

'Sconset offers five restaurants (besides the general store): a cute sandwich shop (Claudette's); the beach-side bistro at the Summer House; the upstairs bar and restaurant at the Summer House; The Sconset Cafe, which has a really nice breakfast, offers lunch and a BYOB dinner (the liquor/wine shop is adjacent to it); and The Chanticleer which offers an upscale dinning room and a more casual bar dining area (lunch in season).

Guestbook comments from the owner

"Lesser Light" was a fantastic place to stay! It had all the amenities you could want and a beautiful deck outside, perfect for grilling and enjoying the summer evenings. Ron and Lauren made themselves totally available. I plan on staying there again. It was nice and private as well. The perfect cottage for our Nantucket stay. I highly recommend it!

Relaxing and just what we needed after our wedding

  • 5 of 5

After all the stress and work from getting ready for our wedding what we both wanted was a quiet and relaxing honeymoon. (we also really wanted to bring our dog) Lesser Light was exactly what we needed....a charming cottage 1 mile from a great beach. Lauren and Ron were great to rent from. They made awesome dinner recommendations and told us about the Bluff Walk in Sconset which was gorgeous.

Thank you! We had a blast calling Lesser Light and Nantucket our home for a week.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your kind words! We love to hear that Nantucket (and 'Lesser Light') worked for you as a place to relax, have fun, and get ready to face the world as "Mr. and Mrs." That Bluff Walk is truly an amazing trek! And it's a fun detail that, for no charge at all, you get to share the exact views over the Cliff and to the Atlantic beyond that the billionaires who bought those fancy houses paid so many millions to ''own." Just like the 50+ miles of public beach on the Island, these are delights that we all get to share in.

Wonderful Place to Stay

  • 5 of 5

Perfect place for a peaceful weekend.

Highly recommend for couples or very small family. Quiet part of the island but close enough to bike trails and quick drive to town and into Sconset. Wonderful owners. We had a great time!

Owner's Response: We"re so happy your family had fun! We always think that it's never too soon to let Nantucket work its magic on the next generation. So many people come to visit with their children and still speak fondly of the visits they made with their own parents when they were the 'little ones'. Hope we'll see you folks back again.

Great couples retreat

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I stayed here with our dog Kali for a week and loved it. It had just the right combination of privacy, space, and location to make for a nice week stay. The outdoor shower was my fave and the cottage was very well put together, clean, and just the right size for 2 people and a dog. We would highly recommend it to couples looking for a romantic get-away who still want to be convenient to best spots on the island. Owners were easy to deal with and very accommodating.

Owner's Response: Thanks for your kind words. Sometimes it just seems so simple -- all it takes is to get away to a quiet and private place with the one you love, with that wonderful dog alongside... and with a killer open air shower looking out at three wild acres! What more do we need to be happy?

Amazing cottage, caring owners, perfect vacation

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I came to this beautiful cottage with our dog Jude for our honeymoon. The cottage is private, well decorated, and the outdoor space can't be matched. We loved the location on the island and was able to enjoy all that nantucket had to offer. To top it all off, Lauren, the owner, came by to say hello and congratulated us on our marriage. The process was so easy in renting the beautiful property and we ended up booking another vacation for September before we left. We can't wait to return to this beautiful spot many more times in the future. Truly a gem on this gorgeous island.

Owner's Response: Thanks so much for your great review. Over the years we've had Newlyweds, Honeymooners, wedding parties, BabyMooners and even a couple celebrating their dog's first birthday! We are always amazed that whenever someone mentions the best part of their holiday, it's always some unique and unexpected part of the Island that spoke most to them and made their vacation unforgettable. The Island is only 13 miles across but it seems to have enough delights that we rarely hear about the same one twice! Congratulations again on your marriage, and we hope when you visit in the Fall that you'll find even more to enjoy and want to return to.

Wonderful week stay in a cozy cottage!

  • 5 of 5

We arrived to this cute small cottage tucked away but surrounded by a beautiful garden. The decorations were simple but very Nantucket ... the house was well supplied, bed comfortable. Loved the proximity to the Serengeti and all the off road running paths/streets. The Inn Keepers were friendly responsive and very accommodating! And to top it off, our two goldens were welcomed and thoroughly enjoyed hanging out on the deck when they weren't chasing waves or going for daily walks. We shall return!!!

Owner's Response: It was so great that you both were able to make it last summer -- and on such short notice, too! It seems like you -- and 'the boys' -- managed to soak in an enormous amount of the joy of this unique and incredibly dog friendly Island. Hope you are able to make it back next summer!

A Remarkable Experience on Nantucket

  • 5 of 5

Having visited Nantucket by boat many times, I was not familiar with all of the joys the island had to offer away from the harbor. Lesser Light was the perfect home from which to explore the Serengeti, the miles of bike paths and the solitude of a nearly-deserted Tom Nevers beach. The nearby shuttle stop was convenient for provisioning and shopping trips to town.

The cottage is immaculately maintained and well-appointed with an array of upscale amenities. The huge deck and outdoor shower are a delight after a bike-ride to the beach or just soaking up the sun on a quiet afternoon.

The owners are attentive and gracious, providing prompt assistance and guidance for even the smallest of issues. The only difficult part of the stay was having to pack and leave what we now consider our Nantucket home. We are looking forward to experiencing the cottage in the off-season this year and for years to come.

Owner's Response: We have had many guests stay in 'Lesser Light' over the years and, we are pleased to say, so many of them have been happy there. But, without question, you are the very first guests to ever express your pleasure to us in a Nantucket Limerick. (Sadly, it doesn't seem appropriate to post here.) We thank you for your kind words, for your weird rhymes - but mostly we are just pleased that you were able to have such a relaxing and delightful week. There's a reason why so many Islanders say September is their favorite month of the year!

*** Located in Tom Nevers East, minutes from the Ocean, the bike path into town, and a WAVE (shuttle bus) stop, and a five minute drive into Siasconset ('Sconset), this adorable cottage allows easy access to all the pleasures of Nantucket summers even while sitting serenely, surrounded by gardens, up a long, private driveway. Pull up a chaise lounge on the large wood deck, grill the day’s catch on the gas grill, take a nap in the hammock, watch the incredible night sky just outside your door - without the lights of town interfering - and delight in the best of Nantucket!

In nearby 'Sconset, there are five restaurants: a cute sandwich shop (Claudette's); the beach-side bistro at the Summer House; the upstairs bar and restaurant at the Summer House; The Sconset Cafe, which has a really nice breakfast, offers lunch and a BYOB dinner (the liquor/wine shop is adjacent to it); and The Chanticleer which offers an upscale dinning room and a more casual bar dining area (lunch in season).
