In addition to modern amenities and all the comforts of home, you will be able to walk out the door and hike on any number of hiking trails in Acadia National Park with South Ridge Trail to the summit of Cadillac Mt. right across the street. A quick walk will take you to Ocean Drive where you can sit with coffee and watch the sunrise or bike the entire loop around Park Loop Road. All of the carriage roads and beaches are just a short distance with a free shuttle bus that will pick you and your bike up at the end of the driveway. If you want nightlife, Bar Harbor is only 4 miles away with all the shopping, restaurants, and bars. The local convenience store is less than .25 mi. down the road where you can also have a traditional lobster bake. The finest restaurant on all of Mount Desert Island, The Burning Tree, is also just .25 mi. down the road from the cottage. We're sure you will love your stay at the Cottage
Affordable cottage a few miles from Bar Harbor. Nice place to relax and enjoy the park. The cottage is very close to many great hikes and carriage trails. Nice outdoor area to enjoy the weather and grill.
The only negative is the outdated TV; I could not connect my ipad or iphone to stream a movie (no hdmi). Otherwise, the cottage is great. I highly recommend it.
We really enjoyed staying at the cottage for our honeymoon this past September. The directions and check in instructions were very clear. We loved the location of the cottage! It is conveniently located between two entrances of the park so we weren't required to drive the entire Loop Road if we wanted to take a quick visit to Thunder Hole. Also, the 10 minute drive into Bar Harbor was great - close enough, yet far enough away from the bustle of the town. For such a small place, there are so many great amenities included. We were glad for the free Wifi and especially thankful for the washer and dryer. Our one main disappointment was that we planned to grill a few of our meals. When my husband went out to start the grill for our burgers, he found that it was in total disrepair! The burners were broken and laying in the bottom so there was no way that we could even make do! I was not happy with eating a pan fried hamburger! But then, this makes for a good laugh when we tell our story to our family. :) We enjoyed sitting by the fire in the yard in the evening and the fact that fire wood was so convenient was nice. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the cottage and would gladly return, but would not plan on grilling our dinners!
I found this property and chose it based on the stellar 4 and 5 star reviews. Everyone seemed so pleased with it, and the pictures looked nice. Unfortunately, my family and I were slightly disappointed with the accommodations.
The positives: we loved the location. There was great access to all parts of Acadia and Bar Harbor was just a short drive away. There was rarely road noise from Rt 3 at inconvenient times, even though we were right off of the road. We also liked the full kitchen. Even though the appliances are compact in size, they were great to have, and we cooked meals a couple of times in the cottage. It was nice to have a washer and dryer and A/C!
The negatives: We were disappointed in the quality of some of the things and the way the cottage was kept. I don't know if some things were in disrepair because it was the end of the season, or if that's the standard, but I can only report on my experience.
The doors didn't lock properly, in that the dead bolts didn't align with the holes in the door jams, on either door. This was frustrating, because while we didn't feel unsafe, we still liked to lock our doors because we don't know the area. We wound up just locking the lock on the knob, which isn't really very secure, but we didn't have any problems.
The toilet paper rack was falling off the wall.
The sleeper sofa was less than comfortable. Our 4 year old slept on it, and I kind of felt bad for her. I wound up sleeping with her one night, and it was a pretty rough night.
The dryer didn't have a vent. So if you ran the dryer the whole place got REALLY hot!
Finally, everything was sort of mismatched. The linens, the towels, the dishes, the silverware and even the decor. I kind of felt like everything was thrown together with left overs from another place, or things purchased second hand. It just didn't give off a very welcoming feel. (Believe me, I wasn't expecting a 5 star resort feel or anything, we are pretty plain people, but I guess I just expected a little more based on the awesome reviews.)
Overall, it was just average. There was nothing really wrong with it that made the experience terrible. We still had a good time. But it was just not as nice as we expected.
This adorable little house was the perfect vacation base for us. It met all the needs of two weary travelers without being fussy. It was very clean, the kitchen was well enough equipped that we only went out to eat a few times, and the washer and dryer were very nice to have for gross hiking clothes. A pleasant surprise was that the house stayed cool on hot days with a few strategically opened windows. The small yard in the back is a lovely spot to hang out after a long day, especially with the fire pit. We ate most of our meals out there. Being able to hop on my bike and get straight to the Loop Road was wonderful. The traffic noise from Route 3 is noticeable but not bothersome, even over Labor Day weekend, quiets down before 9pm, and the landscaping is well placed to provide a surprisingly high level of privacy. Having the small market just down the street and a firewood supply around the corner were very convenient. The owner replied promptly to our questions and was helpful and accommodating. Our only (very minor) complaint is that we found the couch unsupportive and moderately uncomfortable for lounging on. But why would we sit on a couch instead of exploring Acadia?! We were delighted with this house, and would happily go back.
This cottage is perfect for two people. It's very clean and has everything you need. Sheridy was very easy to get in touch with (for me, mostly e-mail) and was very helpful. We brought our dogs and did a lot of hiking the week we were here. We had a great time and hope to come back again next year. The only thing I wish that was different was that there was a way to get to the fenced in backyard from the house. We had to go out the front door to get to it, so we had to leash our dogs rather than just letting them out. Overall, I would definitely recommend this cottage :)
A stones throw from Ocean Dr, Cadillac Mt., hiking trails and carriage roads of Acadia Nat'l Park, this 500 sq ft cottage has everything you need for your vacation. Located 4 mi from downtown Bar Harbor, this newly built cottage has both comfort and convenience. The cottage has a queen bed, sleeper sofa and can sleep up to 4. There is a washer and dryer, a fully stocked modern kitchen with granite countertops, dishwasher, microwave, flat screen cable t.v., and free wifi. There is a yard for grilling and relaxing or toast marshmallows in the fire pit. We can also provide beach toys for babies or small children. This is the perfect rental for couples or small families looking to have the best vacation for your dollar. There is a small playground with a basketball court just a quick walk down the road. We are sure you will want to come back and stay at the cottage year after year.
