Belmont Cottage shares a pool with two other houses.

The town of Governors Harbour, a three-minute walk down the hill, has a charming collection of 19th century homes and churches overlooking its historic harbor. Buy fresh fish and lobster every afternoon from fisherman at the town dock, or visit the recently restored Haynes Library, which dates from 1897, for the weekly coffee hour for foreign residents and tourists. . Governors Harbour has grocery stores, restaurants, liquor stores, two banks with ATMs, a bakery, gift shops, and a medical clinic. Friday Night Fish Fry in Governors Harbour, a street/beach party that brings together all the tourists and locals with food, drink, and dancing in the street, is not to be missed.
Walking over the hill in the other direction takes you to French Leave Beach, the finest beach on the island and one of the great beaches of the Caribbean. By foot, it’s about 10 minutes to French Leave, a mile-long crescent of pink sand which is literally deserted most of the time. Most visitors to Eleuthera rent a car, because the island is rural and spread out, and a car is the only practical way to get around. By car, Belmont Cottage is just a minute from French Leave Beach.

We stayed in the Belmont Cottage and Junior Cottage for a total of 4 nights. When we first arrived, I was pleasantly pleased with the look and feel of the property. The pictures shown online were very accurate. However, I would not use the company that booked the trip (Majestic Tours) again, due to their slow response and lack of detailed information regarding my e-mail inquiries.
Before we booked our room at Belmont, we were also considering another property in Rock Sound, but decided against it due to the distance. And during that time, I had several phone conversations with a lovely booking agent named Julianna at Eleuthera Vacation Rentals.
She was extremely professional and quick to respond to my inquiries. Later, I learned that she also does the booking for Belmont Cottage, and although we had already begun the process with Majestic Tours, Julianna was the one who arranged our rental car, her assistant, Tara, gave restaurant recommendations, and Julianna gave us much better directions on how to get to our hotel, compared to the other tour company.
So, if you are looking for very nice accommodations in Eleuthera, consider Squires Estate, and Julianna as your booking agent.
BTW-Annie the property manager at Squires is also very sweet and nice.

The grounds are lovely, and the view from the cottage is lovely. This property is not near the beach. One must have a car to get to the beach. Governors Harbour is a quaint town with friendly inhabitants. Several good restaurants, but mostly pricey.
Back to the cottage, it's really a nice sized hotel room. Our biggest complaint was that we had no where to put our luggage or our clothes other than on the floor, so had to live out of the suitcase for 4 days. Also, no where to hang wet towels or swim suits other than one small hook in the bathroom or over the door or door handles. Seems to me it would be very easy to place a few hooks on the walls, or add a small dresser or bench for luggage, as well as a few hangars.
The Estate employees were all nice and tried to be accommodating to our needs...
Eleuthera is famous for its 100 miles of spectacular, deserted beaches. The island, home to just 8000 residents, is completely safe any time of the day or night. Enjoy the rare experience of picking up hitch-hikers and leaving your keys in the car wherever you go. The snorkeling, diving, and fishing on the island are world class. Boating, surfing, and other water sports are also popular. You can rent power boats, sailboats, sea kayaks, bikes. You can have a charter captain take you out for excursions of various types. There is excellent sightseeing as well. Eleuthera has vast caves, cliffs, a bottomless ocean hole, many unique beaches, historic churches and 19th century homes, and small villages to explore. We hope you will enjoy Belmont Cottage, and experience all our island has to offer.
