About the property

Bright and breezy studio, with queen bed, full bath and kitchen, outdoor deck

Ours is a charming historic private waterfront home in a lovely quiet neighborhood. Guests have total privacy, but my husband and I live on the premises, providing enhanced security and happily meeting whatever needs might arise for our guests! Enter through a luxurious garden filled with fruit trees, tropicals, and orchids. Filled with art and antiques and light, the second story studio catches our fresh ocean breezes. In Tarasita Cottage the spacious high ceilinged main room has more windows than walls, and a full kitchen, full bath, and walk-in closet. The roof deck, with comfortable chairs, umbrellas and gas grill is perfect for reading and relaxing outside. This is a wonderful retreat place, but still close to everything! Walking and biking are popular in the neighborhood and one can do either to reach downtown amenities or the beach. We have bicycles and golf clubs for our guests. Kayak off our private beach. Watch osprey, kingfishers, pelicans, parrots, and wading birds. Downtown Lake Worth is eight blocks away and is filled with charming shops and restaurants. Many of the cafes have outdoor tables and are dog friendly!

Lake Worth beach has a great open air restaurant bar and a gorgeous new pier for fishing or just ogling the beach goers. Feb. 25th and 26th is the annual Lake Worth Street Painting Festival - a great weekend happening! Other nearby (no more than an hour's drive) attractions include Roger Dean Stadium, home of spring training for the Florida Marlins and the St. Louis Cardinals; the Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens, home to a world class bonsai collection; Palm Beach International Equestrian Center, home of the FTI Winter Equestrian Festival (Jan 11- April 1); Palm Beach Polo Club (polo season Jan 29 - April 2); the Norton Museum of Art; Palm Beach itself and famous Worth Ave for primo shopping; Sawgrass Mills Mall (over 350 outlet stores) for bargain shopping; Lion Country Safari, a drive through African game park; off-shore drift fishing; Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino; Miami Beach!

About Kathleen Holmes

Kathleen is a visual artist and writer; Lou is a professional theatre director and producer. We love Florida living, particularly dear, sweet, funky Lake Worth. We also love good food, good wine, good friends, and good dogs!! We feel blessed to live in such a great area and enjoy sharing it with travelers from around the world.

Kathleen Holmes purchased this studio in 2010

Why Kathleen Holmes chose Lake Worth

We have lived in Lake Worth for over 20 years, and finally were able to get a 1924 fixer upper on the water. As with houses of this vintage, the renovation is never really done, but we love the process. The garden has been especially rewarding to create - it's becoming a tropical paradise. Sunrises and moon rises over the lake are a lovely reward for all the hard work!

What makes this studio unique

For probably 350 days of the year we are blessed with breezes right off the Atlantic Ocean, so even in summer, there is usually a cool breeze, especially in the evening.

Very Relaxing and private

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I spent 6 wonderful weeks this winter at Tarasita, the apartment above the garage at Lou and Kathleen's very special home in Lake Worth Florida.

We felt very welcome from the first moment of arrival as we parked our trailer and vintage sportscar in the spacious driveway. Our little "nest" was cool, sunny and very comfortable all through our stay, and when the temperatures dipped, our hosts provided a heater to offset the cool nights. The dock became my favourite spot to read, spot interesting waterfowl, and to have a glass of wine.

The loaner bikes were great, I used them for my morning exercise.

We will definitely be back!

Pure Relaxation...

  • 5 of 5

We just returned to the frozen Northeast from two glorious weeks at Tarasita - and we want to turn around and go back already!

From the moment we got there we knew we had made a good choice of accommodation. The waterfront location is breezy and beautiful. The tropical gardens are lush and lovely. And the interior of Tarasita is spacious, light-filled and well appointed.

But the real highlight of our stay was our hosts, Kathleen and Lou. Upon arrival Kathleen greeted us as if we were old friends and gave us a bunch of great pointers on places to eat, shop and beachcomb. Our casual meetups and chats around the property made us feel very much at home. On our second to last day there, Lou and I even managed to squeeze in a great round of golf.

Did I mention, We want to go back to Tarasita already! And we certainly will the next time we plan a trip to the Palm Beach area.

A lovely stay in a tropical garden setting on the inland waterway

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful, relaxing, nine day stay with our two golden retrievers at Tarasita, a private, spacious and well equipped efficiency apartment set in a tropical garden in a lovely, quiet, waterfront neighborhood in Lake Worth, Florida. Our hosts, Kathleen and Lou, were very accommodating, and the large, fenced yard facing the inland waterway, and the two large nearby parks were ideal for walking our two dogs, who had a marvelous time. The tropical garden was exotic, and the eclectic local architecture featured one hundred year old spanish style mansions, and pastel cottages among a variety of interesting architectural styles Everything worked well, from beach towels to bicycles. And there's a wide variety of good restaurants and always something interesting going on in nearby downtown Lake Worth. We all hope to return to Tarasita.

Wonderful comfortable "Old Florida" charm

  • 5 of 5

We spent five wonderful days at Tarasita...a bright, sparkling clean, quiet, comfortable and charming "home-away-from-home." The hosts were so very helpful, welcoming and flexible with our arrival and departure. Tarasita is a spacious well equipped private apartment ...surrounded by tropical flowers ...and equiped everything one could need for a long weekend or an extended stay. We have already recommended it to family and friends with the sincere hope they won't want to book this tropical happy place when we want to return. Having rented more than than 25 international vacation properties... Tarasita stands out as very special.

Charming Accommodations and Gracious Hosts

  • 5 of 5

This was our first time at a vacation rental property and our experience could not have been better! We stayed in Taralago which overlooks the lake from a spacious balcony with comfortable seating and a lovely view. The place itself was nicely furnished and comfortable. One of the nicest features is a private dock that sits about 30 or 40 feet out into the lake. There are a couple of rocking chairs and it is the perfect spot to relax, read, have a drink, watch the sun or moon rise or simply do absolutely nothing. Kathleen and Lou were very gracious hosts. We were there for our 25th anniversary and their beautiful home made it extra-memorable. We really wanted for nothing during our stay because they provide just about everything you could need. We will surely stay with them again the next time we visit the area.

Lake Worth is a charming old resort town on the Intracoastal Waterway and one bridge away from the Atlantic Ocean beach. Downtown Lake Worth is filled with small locally owned bars, restaurants with indoor and outdoor dining, antique and other shops, live music, outdoor festivals, and a municipal golf course. There is a Starbucks. Ours is a quiet pedestrian and bike friendly neighborhood with constant tropical breezes. The intracoastal / lake is a mile wide here; at night, the lights from the buildings across the way make for as lovely a vista as there is during the day. Wading birds, pelicans, and the occasional manatee add to the natural beauty.
