We moved out to Parowan from the Clearwater FL area almost 10 years ago and LOVE southern Utah! So clean, tons of outdoor recreation, friendly people and so many national parks. We purchased the house which was built in the late 1800's and remodeled and added on to it while preserving the historical architectural features that make the home so special. It truly was a feat but feel that the home had already survived for over 100 years and we wanted to give it at least 100 more years! We know you will love it! It has the modern conveniences and so many amenities! Enjoy southern Utah and prepare to fall in love with Parowan (: Best wishes for a great vacation!
Mollie Bates purchased this house in 2003
Our large family (almost 30 of us) rent a home every year or so for a family reunion, and this by far is our favorite! We were not familiar with Parowan and as a small town not too much is online, but the size was perfect so we went for it! Boy we are so glad we did!
The house was perfect...our favorite part of the house was the various lounging areas where some could hang out in TV room and others could be in the living room holding conversations and visiting without the distractions of TV and loud noise. The rooms were separate enough that mornings could still be quiet with some up at the crack of dawn, kids (even adults) could take naps during the day and putting the kids down at night didn't require activities to stop! Every two rooms shared a bathroom which was extremely convienent. We had plenty of linens, towels, and blankets. The kitchen had the feel of your kitchen at home, utensils, pots/pans, dishes...anything you may need was there. Two large dining areas were ideal and allowed us a kids area and adult area- very handy!
Our family really enjoyed the backyard! The in ground trampoline was a huge hit with both parents and kids alike! There was basketball and even a fire pit that made for some great evenings by the fire roasting marshmallows and making s'mores! Plenty of chairs and seating helped make it a popular hangout for everyone!
Mollie was fantastic and available for any questions, really made the experience painless!
We certainly did not need to worry about activities! While the town is small it was amazing...we walked a few blocks to a fun park and town ice cream shop and spent an afternoon or two at the city pool (bring your own shade though!) And that doesn't even begin to cover all the hiking, Yankee Meadows reservoir, Brian's Head, Cedar Breaks Natl Park were all amazing experiences! Cedar City is about 15 mins down the road with a Walmart and all the amenities of a large town! One particularly hot day we spent at the Cedar City Aquatic Ctr (huge indoor water park), an absolute blast!
We really enjoyed our stay and will definitely be back again! I would recommend this house to anyone and it is a fantastic area for being outdoors! Thanks Mollie!!!
We had a great time here at our family reunion. The 30 of us fit comfortably. We loved the house...beautifully decorated and furnished, fun and interesting. Many gathering places for games, talking, group activities. Great A/C, and we enjoyed the yard and trampoline a lot. Fun sleepy town, and we loved how close the mountains are...up to 11000 ft in about 30 minutes! Did some hiking, climbing and mountain biking.
We were holding a large family reunion for 36 people and two babies, and we needed at least nine bedrooms and several baths. Once we found this house on VRBO, we knew it was a perfect solution. It was located in the heart of Southern Utah, which was where we wanted to be. It had just the number of rooms and bathrooms we needed, as well as all of the other amenities we were looking for. As we were planning our trip, we had several questions, which the owner answered promptly and thoroughly.
When we arrived, we found that the house was everything we were hoping for. It has a nice homey feel. It has a modern kitchen with an island with plenty of counter space for preparing meals. The kitchen has one oven which worked great! The kitchen adjoined two large eating areas that could seat almost everyone at mealtimes. The kids would eat outside in the yard too.
The huge backyard was a big hit, especially with the kids. There was a trampoline, which received a lot of use, and and the rest of the yard was used for Ultimate Frisbee and other similar games. Inside, there were a living room and family room that allowed large numbers of people to gather for various activities. There were a number of TVs as well. And there were plenty of bathrooms. We used the washer and dryer a few times as well.
The one thing we didn't realize we needed to bring with us was bar soap. There were some movies, toys, and games, but the selection was eclectic and not always complete, and so you may want to bring your own.
The house is also close to the Old Rock Church. It is about 30 minutes from the stunning Cedar Breaks (which doesn't open until early June, so plan accordingly), 20 minutes from Cedar City, and 1-1/2 hours from Bryce and Zion (which we did not visit given our limited time). Other places we found interesting were a cemetery about a mile away that had many old and interesting graves, the Mammoth ice caves that adults and kids alike could explore, the Petrogylphs, and a rocky climbing area with dinosaur tracks and other interesting finds that the kids loved. The house has several maps, and the Visitors Center is two blocks away. Great vacation!
The house is conveniently located just minutes away from hwy 15, right across from a gas station but still very quiet and secluded. It is also within short driving distance to the ski resort of Brian Head (half an hour) and the natural wonderland of Bryce Canyon (about an hour and half).
We arrived during Christmas holiday and the street was beautifully decorated with holiday lights. The house was a delight to behold. Its snow-covered roof tops added much charm and made it look like one from those fairy tale books. Inside it felt quite festive with its Christmas trees and holiday deco causally arranged around the house. There are many historical buildings in the town and the house has picture books telling their stories.
Our group had 29 people of adults and children of different ages. The house was spacious and has good design. Throughout the house there are many heart-warming decorations here and there. Each of the nine bedrooms carried a theme but its functionality and practical use were not compromised, all excellent reflection of the house owner’s dedication to make the stay a pleasant one for every guest.
We love the fully equipped kitchen with everything a good cook would need, from sets of utensils to all sorts of pots and pans, roomy fridges, spices, zip locks, trash bags, serving dishes of all kinds for any occasions. You name it! We had many happy memories and shared laughter in the kitchen and the dining room where we cooked and enjoyed the foods together.
There were good selection of books, table games, videos and other entertainment options suitable for all ages. We made good use of the large screen TVs for our group gatherings and the Wi-Fi signal was steady and strong throughout the house.
On the day when it was not snowing, the kids in our group went to the backyard. They made snow men, did snowball fights and had a blast on the trampoline.
We also love the well-stocked laundry room with its new washer and dryer. The snow shovels, ice pick and salt provided on the premise were very helpful as well. There was plenty of on-site parking for our group of 8 vehicles. The heater in the house worked well but it would be nice if there were extra blankets available.
All in all, this is truly a home away from home and we cannot say enough good things about this house. We highly recommend this house to anyone looking to share our experience!
We were a group of 4 families (18 people ) , we are 100% Satisfied with everything, the house has a plenty of space, rooms and bathrooms, the kids have fun every single day of our stay.
Mollie and her husband are the nicest persons in the whole world, they were looking for our comfort and always worried for us.
Thanks Mollie for everything!!!!, and for sure we will back on December 2016
What a great weekend in Parowan! The house is big and has lots of gathering places for large groups. We enjoyed the large kitchen, it was well stocked with everything you need to cook for a large group. When I booked I thought the home was in Brian Head but in the end we didn't mind that it was on main street Parowan, which is a cute little Utah town. The house is 30 minutes from Brian Head resort and 20 minutes from Cedar City but there is a small hometown grocery store 5 minutes away with everything you need. There was even a pass to the local fitness gym a couple of blocks away which several people in our group enjoyed. I would definitely recommend this home and would stay again. Thanks Molly!
